Unit 7 – Fitness Testing for Sport and Exercise Scenario/Background: You work as a Fitness Instructor for The John Warner Sports Centre. A local football team has asked you to help improve their standards of fitness in an attempt to improve their results. To describe and explain the different components of fitness, you decide to run a series of fitness tests to ascertain the overall level of fitness of the team and offer recommendations to improve their fitness (and hopefully results).

Task Breakdown Design a presentation to give to the whole football team and team managers. Introduction Briefly outline the different components of fitness and how these contribute to a footballer’s overall fitness. M1 Advantages and Disadvantages Include a section on your Prezi for each component of fitness where you give advantages and disadvantages. Things to consider when looking at each test include: • Validity and Reliability of results • Specialist equipment required? • Can the test be affected by environmental factors • Length of the test

Scenario/Background: Two members of the team have shown particular interest in improving their performance in the various components of fitness. Before they can improve, you inform them that they must take various health screening test and a battery of official Fitness Tests so that you can establish their strengths and weaknesses. From the results of these, you will suggest ways in which they can improve. Task Breakdown/Checklist/Evidence • Design a health screening questionnaire (Microsoft Word) • Research health screening procedures (Prezi) • Use both on 2 contrasting clients (Microsoft Word) P2 Questionnaire Complete a Preparation and Readiness questionnaire on a word document. You should research examples of these online before writing your own.

M2 Strengths and Areas for Improvement In your write up, you must establish and describe your clients’ strengths and areas for improvement based on the 4 health monitoring test results and the results of the health screening questionnaires.
D1 Evaluate and Offer Future Recommendations Here, your write up must include an evaluation of the health screening and health monitoring results compared with normative data and national averages. You should also recommend lifestyle changes that can impact upon your clients’ health and wellbeing.

P5 Test your Client Organise, set up and administer 6 appropriate Fitness Tests for 1 of your clients (and record your results) M3 Journal/Diary of Fitness Tests Keep a Fitness Testing Journal where you record the conditions of the test and comment on factors that may affect the results such as: • Suitability of Test • Validity & Reliability of Test • Practicalities of the Test P6 Fitness Test Feedback for your Client Prepare a report for your client where you give feedback about his/her fitness test results. You should include an interpretation of what the results mean based on normative data (most of which can be found at www.topendsports.com and www.brianmac.co.uk) M4 Strengths and Areas for Improvement In your report, you should compare the results you have attained with normative data. You should also inform your client of his/her strengths and areas which require improvement. D2 Recommendations and Appropriate Future Activities You should offer appropriate suggestions to your client as to how he/she can further improve his/her strengths but also address any weaknesses that the Fitness Test results have highlighted. You may do this by preparing exercises that will improve the various components of fitness that have been tested. A short training programme (3 weeks) that shows progression (and other principles of training) will enable your client to address these weaknesses should he wish to follow it.
