Capital District Convention, August 22-24, 2014 This year the Capital District Convention was held in Reston, VA. It was great seeing Kiwanians that I had not seen since last year. Workshops were attended, House of Delegates met, elections were conducted, and speeches were made. The Duck Derby made about $10,000 for the pediatric hospitals which is supported by the Capital District Foundation. Unfortunately, no one from our club won in the Duck Derby but someone for the Bassett club won. The new fundraiser for the Capital District Foundation was to have baskets donated by each club in the District; attendees bought tickets for the baskets they liked and then a drawing was held for the winners. This raised another $1,000 for the pediatric hospitals. Next year Kiwanis will be celebrating 100 years and I hope you will join us in Roanoke for the district convention April 10-12, 2015. ~Melinda Dalton
