DAPCO
Head of DAPCO program: Katherine Martínez
is the first program in Latin America of environmental declaration of
building products. The program administrator is IDIEM, CDT and Fundación Chile, and its major goal is to strengthen and develop sustainable construction. On November 20th, 2013, Dapco achieved a year of operation. Some of the major accomplishment were the development of EPD for steel and concrete products, integration with 18 Founding Members, and an intense work with the sectorial panels for the creation of PCRs for Steel bars, Concrete and Wood products.
COLLABORATION + EDUCATION + COMMUNICATION
Dapco seeks to promote transparency and focus on building life cycle.
The three most important objectives for the program are collaboration, education,
and communication. The program is focused on providing better transparency to the construction industry, educating the professionals on LCA, and gathering professionals from all backgrounds in order to communicate information about the life cycle of the products and their consequent environmental impact.
3.1 Collaboration DAPCO seeks to collaborate with various public and private stakeholders in the construction industry, creating networks both nationally and internationally. To do this, the program calls for a number of companies Dapco Member, Advisory Council and Sectoral Panels.

The core program administration is the result of an alliance between IDIEM, CDT Technological Transfer Corporation of the Chilean Construction Chamber and Fundación Chile. These organisms join together to introduce the concept of life cycle and sustainable supply chain in the construction sector, which are key to the development of sustainable construction. 3.1.3 Testimonies:
“I think the Dapco program is an excellent initiative to help ensure that there is a greater commitment from organizations to sustainability, its key role is to guide and support which means that manufacturing will affect to a lesser extent the environment . Also, to promote sustainable living cycle in the value chain. It is very important that all who belong to this market, we are able to advance transparency and statements of development, selection and disposal of construction products by the end of its useful life. We have concern and taking care of the environment, and will continue efforts-we-doing by performing a series of actions to mitigate environmental impacts we cause the store operation. That is why we decided to integrate this program, and we hope in the future that our suppliers do the same.
Juan Carlos Corvalán, Sustainability Manager Sodimac
more and more companies become aware of the importance of sustainable construction and the life cycle of their products should be as environmentally friendly. It is important that this program also encourages organizations to convey this commitment to its suppliers, employees and customers. If we develop educational projects in the construction sector in Chile, we will be able to establish the focus of life cycle
We believe Dapco should continue encouraging that
cross all industries and involving all stakeholders. “
“DAPCO delivered from the base, taking the first decisive steps in Chile regarding the life cycle analysis of building materials, helping to accelerate the transfer to a more informed society, specifically with respect to a better understanding of the construction impacts. Initiatives to support the future of Dapco includes a public information platform, increasing the number of statements, and supporting the development of a unique label for building materials. “

“The Dapco program is stracing an irreversible path to the companies that take part in the construction sector. It is finally offering all building products, impact transparentcy allowing consumers to choose freely, beyond price. It shows a new scope, that our country is beginning to demand “
Jorge Manríquez, Marketing Manager Gerdau
“The Dapco program offers a solid and reliable platform to design, develop and successfully implement such initiatives as the LCA and EPD. We do not know of another program in Chile that achieves methodically measurable resoults that are carried out within the deadlines agreed with customers. Also noteworthy is the high academic and experiential level with the people who make this program, professional excellence committed to the needs of its customers “
Nicolás Posada, Assistant Planning Manager - Transex Concrete
“The main contribution of Dapco program has been spreading the correct concept of sustainability applied to the construction, between the various players in the industry. In addition, the articulation with other industry players has been important. In the future, Dapco should focus and stimulate demand for EPD in the construction industry / concrete; through better relationships with government entities (MINVU) in this area and achieve positioning the program as a benchmark. “

The
Gerdau Steel company is the first national
company in the construction industry declaring the environmental impacts associated with two of its products; reinforcing steel bars and concrete profiles according to ISO 14025, demonstrating the company’s leadership in sustainability. “Gerdau in Chile is a company that was the first to declare how sustainable their products are. And so it gives strength to the program because it helps us to say this is
possible, that your information can be transparent and that you do not have to hide it, “said Eduardo Sanhueza, IDIEM subdirector. The launch of these statements were made during the EDIFICA Expo, the most important construction fair in Chile, where they were presented in the Sustainability lectures block, during the University Construction Meeting 2013 to more than 1500 attendees. Conducting a EPD represents a radical advance in corporate transparency. In this sense, Gerdau is a company that works strategically towards sustainable development for years considering the economic, environmental and social aspects of their business, which led the company to become a national pioneer in taking this step and move toward higher
