The sweltering hideousness of the Bodoni Letter, the most illegible type that was ever cut, with its preposterous thicks and thins, has been mostly relegated to works that dont profess anything but the baldest utilitarianism. Giambattista Bodoni

Bodoni
Giambattista Bodoni (1740–1813) in 1798 first designed the series of serif “ Bodoni”. Giambattista followed john Baskerville’s ideas, it was found in the printing type Baskerville: increased stroke contrast and a more vertical, slightly condensed, upper case; but took them to a more extreme conclusion. Bodoni was successful in his career, his designs were improved and different. Ending with a typeface of narrower underlying structure with flat, unbracketed serifs, extreme contrast between thick and thin strokes, and an overall geometric construction. So, these recent designs are called “ Modern” the earlier designs are “transitional”. There were some other versions like digital version of Bodoni but it said to be not clear enough to read, because of the “dazzle” which caused by the alternating thick and thin strokes, in particular the thin stroke is too thin in the small size font. This appears when display versions are used at text sizes. In addition, this is true of much display type that is used at text sizes. Bodoni’s non-dazzling versions that are willing to be used at text size are “Bodoni Old Face”, optimized for 9 points; ITC Bodoni 12 (for 12 points); and ITC Bodoni 6 (for 6 points).

Designer poilography
Giambattista
Bodoni is a talented and creative designer. He was born on the 16th of February in 1740 at town called Saluzzo in Savoy (now the Piedmont region of Italy). He came from a printmaking background, his father and grandfathers both found of typography. He worked for a time in Rome as an apprentice in the Roman Catholic Church’s Propaganda Fide printing house. There, it was said, al of his superiors were so much impressed by him, because of his eagerness to learn, refinement in mastery of ancient languages and types, and energy of effort. In addition, he was allowed to place his own name on first books he wrote, a Coptic Missal and a version of the Tibetan alphabet.
