RONNACATION

Intro
This book shows the various projects that I completed in this intro to design class. It shows my strengths and weaknesses involved in each project and the process my work took at the end. I wish I could have put more energy into my work but the spread of COVID-19 put a damper on my parade. With the lack of in-person feedback and the ability to converse with peers in a creative environment; my work towards the end of the semester began to lack. I hope everyone was safe during this wild event and remained in a healthy mental state through these trying times.
D-School
Engaging with a partner helped guide me to what he wanted. I didn’t mind showing my unfinished work because we were all in the same boat. The pace was super fun and the time crunch helped hone my ideas and it felt like I was on Food Networks Chopped. I usually sit and work on something for a long time so this was refreshing. I would go back to the prototype stage because it just needed a few more things. For example, I would add more information to the invite card.
Dot Line
Gestalt allows you to see different images depending on your visual perspective. This relates to our project because the individual parts lose their meaning when separated from the whole of the peace. It was difficult to make a wellcrafted object. I would rather do something fast so I don’t feel bad when it doesn’t turn out how I wanted it. This project changed my understanding of abstraction because I have a new way of looking at abstract art. It was a little difficult making abstraction instead of illustration because it forces you to think at a deeper level. I can use the knowledge gained here to look at abstract art with a new lens.
Letterforms
I learned that letterform is more difficult than I expected, but it was fascinating seeing how letters in different compositions and typefaces can have different meanings. It gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of the art form. I would push my ideas more and I would change my arced design to incorporate various opacities emanating from the letters beneath them. I would also try adding some closed eyes under the letters with rays coming from the third eye to the letters to further push the idea of a vision.
Object Iterations
What I learned about my object in this process was a light bulb is a hard object to think abstractly with no presuppositions. I would say that my image collage iteration was the most challenging because I bit off way more than I could chew. The process was very time-consuming. The most enjoyable thing about this project was the end to see all the iterations on a single paper. I learned that you can see what you have previously masked out in Photoshop along with converting colored images to grayscale? If I continued with this object for a year, I would try and look at it more abstractly. I would also push my ideas and the different mediums further.

It was difficult for me to only use type. I am a visual person and this was a notable Achilles heel. I tried to make everything legible while also getting an image out of it. I intended to make a shoe print out of the text and I feel like it fell short. I can honestly say that I found my weakest area in art so far, and I hope to improve it.
Designer Presentations
The thing I like most about my artists was how affordable they make their art and they have such an intriguing aesthetic. Presenting to my classmates was nice but I’m always nervous about messing up. I would really like to research Aaron Douglas further. He seems to have a style that I would like followed by what he represents.

Vocation Questions
The things I’m proud of that I created thus far would have to be my business and a few decent songs. If I were guaranteed it would support me financially, I would want to make art, music, and inventions. My inventions would solve world problems and foster life on planets outside of earth.
Thanks
