PROJECTS
Vapore (steam) combines traditional industrial techniques with the creative craftsmanship of Giacomo Moor. The collection explores an ancient manufacturing technique, complex and increasingly rare curving solid wood with steam. Giacomo Moor deviates from the use of open and sharp curves, pushing the production process and obtaining the minimum possible curvature (60 mm). The famous gallery, located in Milan for Salone del Mobile 2017, published the 5 elements that make up the collection.

Ghostwriter is an home-office able to disappear when closed. A complex and refined mechanism allows to open it with a single movement, by pushing down the front panel (worktop). The white, pure and cold exterior contrasts with the warm wooden interior, accessorized with plugs, storage compartments and a drawer.

HOW IT WORKS MAGIC OPENING
Outline is a free-standing bookcase system composed by three modules. The unusual round recesses in the shelves and in the shoulders of the cubes allow the various elements to be inserted by sliding them into place. The two twin vertical Alterego sideboards focus on the combination of the wood structure and the sliding brushed metal door. It seems to support all the weight of the object while the work is done by PMMA panels which create an effect of suspension.

Gazelle is a vehicle for the transportation of goods and people in Senegal, moved by sustainable energy, able to supply electricity when parked. The project was developed as a collaboration of engineering and business students from École Polytechnique de Montréal, HEC Montréal and me as industrial designer from Politecnico di Milano. Engineer Papa M. Cisse, owner of ESSIC company, is the client of the project and producer of the vehicle. Perspectives have expanded to a proposal of Sustainable Product Service System applied to DRE...

A collective of 15 italian design studios explores likewise micro-artifacts, each one designed to fit an imaginary cube of 6x6x6 cm. These objects investigate new product typologies, acting as technological hybrids, small divertissements and provocations. We conceived a portable seed box made of teak wood and 3d printed plastic. Seed turns into tree which is the core inspiration of Giacomo and matter of his products.

In the past, in order to orient themselves in outer space, people made up constellations. The sky was conceived as a cap. Later on, scientific discoveries proved the complexity and infinity of the universe. Laika shows the contrast between past and present through the choice of materials and processes (brass turned plate/PMMA thermoforming and laser cutting). Underneath the cap you see the major constellations, while if you step outside and play with the second cap, you are projected in a new spatial universe.

Orientoma is a wearable orientation system for blind and visually impaired people. A concept of a low-cost, wearable, easy-to use and precise navigation system, that could be used both in outdoor and indoor environments to help users reach a particular destination even in unknown contexts, providing information about the surrounding environment. It exploits common tools like tactile paving and the white cane and well-known technologies such as Near Field Communication (NFC) and Bluetooth.

Two are the main features of the air conditioner Duno, able to distinguish it in the market: the connection beetween two environments (conditioning two spaces with a single split) and the fuction of ventilation, which allows to reuse the conditioned air (fresh or warm), moving it from a room to another, depending on user's desires. Low cost, essential shape and easy assembly process are the most important values we have followed developing this product.

During the Wood Design course I have understood the main rules of woodworking. Wood is a mouldable, warm and living material. It requires constancy and experience to be rightly treated. There are many factors to be considered before you can start trimming a simple board; moisture, direction of the grains, imperfections and possible future deformations caused by the process. The chopping board and the coat hanger are two objects, among several ones, we have realized along this path.

Gastone is a trasformable object which adapts to temporary and versatile work environments. The main feature is the possibility to trasform it from a chair to a table and vice versa, having the chance to manage spaces depending on specific needs. The aim was a simple, minimal, low cost and elegant object, appropriate to represent the company Caimi Brevetti.
