WINTER

WONDERLAND Julia Braime, editor of www.bridesupnorth.co.uk explains why a winter wedding can be the most festive celebration of all. The nights may be longer and the wind may be sharper, but tying the knot during the winter is a great styling choice. Your colours can be richer and more sumptuous, there can never be too much sparkle and you can go overboard on fabulous accessories. Candlelight, open ďŹ res and wintery weather set the perfect scene for romance, plus everyone is always up for a party. Whether you are looking to create an all-out wonderland or a cosy celebration for just a few, here are my top tips for a perfect winter wedding.

Sparkle & Shine Fashion wise, a winter wedding means options galore. For a true snow princess look, think layers of crisp white tulle, big skirts and lace detailing. This look is all about the drama, so add a full length veil and touches of diamante sparkle to a pale hydrangea bouquet. If you prefer a sleeker silhouette, chose fluid fabrics like silk and chiffon and go to town on the accessories and detailing. Feathers, pearls and crystals all work well to create a stylish look with a nod to the season. Stan Seaton Photography

Stan Seaton Photography

Baby, It’s Cold Outside When it comes to winter bridal accessories, more is more! Look fabulous and keep off the chill with a faux fur wrap or an ostrich feather shrug. Briefly swap your heels for a pair of ivory wedding wellies or fur lined boots to add humour to any outdoor photographs whilst keeping snug.

Christmas Presents Choosing your favours is a piece of cake at Christmas time. Pretty bauble place settings, winter warming miniatures, candy canes and Christmas tree chocolates will go down a storm with the big kids at your wedding breakfast.

Twinkle, Twinkle Long dark nights outside are the perfect opportunity to create a dreamy mood inside. String fairy lights from the rafters to create a pretty, twinkly setting or light dozens of candles for a romantic and relaxed atmosphere.

Deck The Halls If your wedding is during the festive season, save on your decorations budget by making the most of your venue’s Christmas decorations. Work with what’s already there (ask in advance what their plans are) and you can put the extra pennies towards a tropical honeymoon!

Under the Mistletoe

Stan Seaton Photography

For the biggest, brightest blooms keep florals seasonal. Ask your florist which flowers and foliage are at their best when you plan to say I do and work them into your bouquet and centrepieces. Add a touch of fun by putting big bunches of mistletoe on your shopping list and get ready to pucker up!

THE PERFECT DRESS

How to choose a wedding dress to suit your shape?

Your wedding dress has got to be one of the biggest sartorial decisions you will ever make, which makes choosing the perfect dress one of the hardest decisions you may ever make! It is extremely easy to fall in love with heart shaped necklines and pretty tulle skirts and even easier to by-pass the question ‘Does this style really suit my body shape?’

Petite Bride

Pear-Shaped Bride

‘You are a shorter bride with a small waist and bust’

‘Although small on top, you have fuller hips, thighs and bottom’

You lucky brides! Most styles will work perfectly on your petite body; going for an empire line or column style will add height and help shape your smaller bust. We love the vintage look, bias cut gowns are perfect for the petite bride and offer truly elegant silhouettes. A word of warning for you little ladies, beware the voluptuous, fairytale skirt as they can drown you in a sea of material and unbalance your petite frame.

An off-the-shoulder a-line style is the perfect choice to draw your guest’s attention to your upper body and an a-line will flatter and smooth out any problem areas. Go with intricate embroidery or a flower appliquéd bodice to draw attention to your best assets. Wearing a detailed bridal sash will draw the attention to the smallest part of your waist and will cinch you in to create killer curves.

The perfect wedding dress designer for you: Claire Pettibone

The perfect wedding dress designer for you: Anne Barge

To help each one of our unique brides, Darlington Weddings has come up with a simple solution – a straightforward guide to choosing the perfect dress for your fabulous shape! Whether you’re busty, petite, curvy or pear-shaped, we are here to advise you on the dos and don’ts of choosing a wedding dress to suit your shape.

Busty Bride

Curvy Bride

‘You have a fuller bust, whether petite, curvy or tall’

‘You have killer curves with a larger frame and bust’

The most flattering way to show off your fabulous assets without them being the centre of attention is to balance your figure out with a fuller skirt. This is the perfect way to create a curvy and balanced silhouette that will flatter any body shape. A top tip for the busty bride is to get a supportive and comfortable bra and get it fitted by a professional (we are all guilty of ignoring this advice!)

The industry has come on leaps and bounds in catering for the curvier bride. A mermaid or fish-tailed shape will have an instant slimming effect and hug your body in all the right places. Go for a detailed corset to give your bust the support it needs, creating an hourglass shape that your guests will swoon over. Try to avoid clingy, silky numbers that will draw attention to any of your problem areas.

Emma Nicky

The Proposal We had been together for 8 years when, after a battle to get me onto the beach in my brand new shoes, Nicky popped the question in Sri Lanka. The Dress It took me 2 years and a visit to just about every shop in the North of England to find the perfect dress. I finally settled on a Maggie Sottero dress called Ella Marie which ticked all the boxes. The Venue We chose Crathorne Hall as our reception venue. Not only is the setting at Crathorne Hall beautiful but the service we received was second to none. From the moment we booked the venue they couldn't do enough to help us.

The Photography I met Fyzal at a Wedding Fayre and I knew he was 'the one' for us! Not only were the display albums of amazing quality (so much so that I was convinced they were all professional models!) but I found Fyzal very down to earth and easy to get on with. To say we are thrilled with the photographs is an understatement!

The Honeymoon We spent 16 days recovering on our honeymoon in Dubai and Mauritius - AMAZING!

Lesley

Simon

The Propsal

Simon proposed to me in Seville during a horse and carriage ride around the city. Eager to seal the deal, I found my dream engagement ring that same afternoon and it was on my finger for the plane ride back home!

The Dress

My dress was by Benjamin Roberts and I did not think it was 'the one' on the hanger but as soon as I tried it on I knew that I would feel a million dollars in it on the day. It fitted in with our theme of laid back garden party - and more importantly it fitted me perfectly. Not a single alteration was needed.

The

Reception We saw several wedding venues but settled on Crathorne Hall when they said that they could easily cope with around twenty children at the wedding reception. The grounds were perfect for the very competitive game of rounders that took place on the day - with the adults competing harder than the children! In additon, Crathorne were very flexible about our requirements that we avoid a "sit down" meal and their suggestion of canapes and champagne followed by Pimms and a BBQ was just what we wanted.

The Photography

Claire Burns of Burns Rowatt Photography totally 'got it' when we said that we wanted our wedding photographs to be 'snaps' of the day rather than anything staged and posed. At times, we really forgot that Claire and her husband were there, they were so unobtrusive. However, they were extremely busy capturing all the key moments and we could have filled several wedding albums with the incredible photographs Claire produced.

The

Honeymoon Our honeymoon was amazing thanks to the generosity of our family and wedding guests. My Mum and Dad paid for our flights and thanks to their generosity we were able to fly to Australia! Our wedding guests then bought us special honeymoon experiences which meant that we very much lived the high life during our six week honeymoon that took us from Abu Dabi to Sydney where we made our way slowly to Brisbane and back home via Singapore. It truly was the most marvellous start to our married lives.

Kiri Lee

The Proposal Lee an I have been together for over 11 years. Lee proposed on Christmas morning 2011. He surprised me with a ring in my stocking and then got down on one knee to propose. We decided to get married as soon as possible, having already been together for so long we didn't feel the need for a long engagement. The Dress I spent a long time searching for 'the dress'! Eventually I found a dress that was different to the others I had seen... It was a warmer, richer cream colour. I decided I loved the dress but was still unsure about the shape of the top. I decided to have the dress customised to the exact shape I wanted. I hadn't seen the finished product until a week before the wedding, it was lucky I loved it! The Reception We wanted the day to have a relaxed feel so we decided to have a later wedding which would run through the day without a break. We got married at 3.30, enjoyed a cocktail reception with mohjitos, then a BBQ which we ended eating indoors due to the rain! We still had some informal speeches and a toast and then the night began with a DJ. We also had a photo booth, which everyone loved, and a casino. Finally, some bacon sandwiches and chips for later in the evening. The Honeymoon We went on honeymoon the next day to Malaysia. We started with a few nights in the city of Kuala Lumpur and then flew to the island of Langkawi for 7 nights of relaxation! We really splashed out on our honeymoon and enjoyed a fabulous holiday in our own private villa with private pool!

Stacey Karim

The Proposal

Our first date was in July, 2008. About two months later he whisked me away for a fancy spa weekend at Redworth hall. Just over a year and a half later – Karim proposed to me on Valentines day. Karim surprised me with a return weekend to Redworth Hall (making me close my eyes all the way there). Being back at the place we had first spent our night away he had secretly prepared the room with scattered candles and a heart shaped display made out of tea-lights on the bed. When I returned ‘our song’ (Jason maraz – I’m yours) was playing, he got down on one knee and proposed. It was a very emotional and special evening - we celebrated with countless bottles of champagne and couldn’t take the smiles of our faces!

The Dress I wanted something classic - bridal, but with a modern twist. After shopping in Leeds, York and Glasgow, my final shop was Poppy Bridal in Darlington. Once I tried on the Alicia dress by Maggie Sottero, I just knew - this was the one! It was elegant, classy and finished perfectly with the crystal embellishment waist band.

The Reception I knew exactly how I wanted everything to look, so planning the wedding was really easy and stress-free. I wanted a fresh summery colour scheme for my bridesmaid’s dresses and flowers. I originally chose a coral/orange colour and worked with different shades to create a number of features that would compliment each other. Wynyard hall was the perfect venue for all aspects of our wish for a ‘dream venue’: it was grand, impressive, had beautiful scenery and provided catering and a service that is second to none.

Honeymoon

The Caribbean Island, Aruba, with the slogan ‘One Happy Island’ really was the perfect honeymoon destination. We were married on the Sunday and flew out on the Friday, giving us enough time in between to catch up with family and friends after the day!

The Proposal

I asked her dad for permission and I was so happy when he just smiled and said he couldn’t think of a better man for his daughter. I proposed down by the river in the small village of Low Dinsdale. We took off our shoes and walked down the pebble beach into the water, I wasn’t nervous until about 5 seconds before when I thought ‘this is it, this is the right moment’. We were sat down on the beach and Louise stood up to get our shoes. As she turned around I was on one knee and told her how much she meant to me and proposed. The Dress

When I came out of the fitting room in a dress that fitted like it was made for me! My mum cried a little and I felt like a princess. It was easy to wear and walk in but complemented my figure and personality. It was also something I thought jazz would like; classic and elegant. We tried different accessories and I just didn’t want to take it off. Previously I had thought of selling my dress after the wedding but the thought of selling this dress was noncomprehensible. Thoughts of our future children finding the dress in the loft and trying it on set in and the dress was mine.

The Reception

We had lots of ideas but realistically some of them were well out of reach. All in all we sat down and really thought about who we were, who we wanted to be known as and what was most important to us. First was to get married to each other in the eye’s of God, second was to be married with our friends and family around us and have them involved in the day. Everything else was pure luxury.

It went so quickly but we have some fantastic photos that really captured the essence of the day. A special thank you to Jade at GASP for capturing our memories, something to show our future family.

The Honeymoon The surprise honeymoon organised solely by the groom to the south of France went down perfectly, an amazing location to relax in the countryside, picturesque villages, long walks, great food and wine and to spend time in each others company alone was bliss.

Words: Sophie Oldridge Photography: Camera A

A CAUSE FOR CELEBRATION Ann Simmons loves photography; she has done since the day she first picked up a camera at college. Now she has passed her passion onto her daughter Jane, who runs Camera A photography with her Mum. DW went to see the creative duo at their studio in Darlington, as they celebrated 30 years in business…

ello Ann, congratulations on 30 years in business -how does it feel? A: I’m amazed actually. I didn’t expect to reach it - it’s really good! I don’t think of it as 30 years because everything has changed. I started out with roll film cameras and a little bit of colour. We used to take very stiff photographs and we used to get roll film and only 12 on a roll. People would book 30 pictures and I took 36 – I hadn’t to make a mistake! Q. You work with your daughter now, how did that come about? A: It was eight years ago, just as digital really started. Jane was working at a call centre and she thought when she wasn’t working she could earn a bit more money and do our selling and marketing. Q. So Jane, how did it change from marketing to going into business together? J: Well I decided that I couldn’t be here and not know how to do everything! I felt like I was just coming in to do the selling and I always thought if someone wasn’t very well, instead of calling a client to say we can’t take your portrait today, I’d just do it myself! Q. How was it to teach your daughter your own trade Ann? A: It was fine really. It made no difference if I was teaching her or anybody else! Q. What first attracted you to wedding photography? A: I went to Art College and that’s when I fell in love with it. I’d never had a camera or used a camera before and I learnt about the physics of where the light is coming from – that’s the most important thing, because even with digital you get shadows.

Q. There’s so much competition for photographers in Darlington, how do you stand out? What’s different about Camera A? A: One of the things is we’re all female and there’s 3 fully qualified photographers. J: Because we’re a slightly larger team, if for example you send me and Sarah to your wedding and I happen to throw myself down the stairs on the morning or I’m ill, we can send another photographer because it’s not just one with an assistant. A: I can’t cancel - I did a wedding in a calliper once! J: We often arrive at the bride’s house

and everyone’s getting ready and I might have to dress a little flower girl or finish off dressing the bride, but because we’re all female we don’t have to worry and we don’t really mind. Q. What about your wedding photography? How is that different? J: We try to make each image as perfect as possible by doing the editing. Every image doesn’t leave here until it looks as good as it possibly can. We take out no smoking signs and tweak. Everyone appreciates a tweak! A: Well there’s nothing worse than waking up on the morning of your wedding with a spot on your cheek. The make-up artist can cover it but it is still there as a lump, so we take it out. Q. What’s the most unique wedding you have done? J: Oh that’s easy for me. We did a wedding at a Georgian theatre in Richmond. The groom came on the stage as Phantom of The Opera and they got married on stage. Q. What is the best thing about your job ladies? A: That every day is different, no two days are the same. I’ve heard everything and done everything! J: I think it’s sharing in somebody’s special day. It’s such a wonderful job, every wedding is different. It’s a very happy job as well - I think that’s it!

SIMPLY LUXURIOUS

H

Sarah Pittendrigh has had a whirlwind experience of late. She has started her own business, Simply Bows and Chair Covers, seen it grow phenomenally, and re-married her husband – all in less than 3 years! Our reporter Sophie Oldridge caught up with Sarah between dressing weddings and showing horses.

ELLo Sarah, tELL me a little bit about your company. Well, we are a speciality event linen hire company. We do chair covers, table linen and accessories to match and we have ten offices stretching from Aberdeen to Berkshire. Actually, we just opened one in Dundee today, so that makes it 11! That’s great, and in such a short time. how did it all start? In 2008 my brother got married and we used a company for linen and they let us down badly on the day. They didn’t deliver enough chair covers and the quality

was poor, so we thought ‘let’s have a go at this ourselves, the way we would like to do it.’ and how is that? What makes you different? I think it’s the fact that we’re innovative, we’re creative, our customer service is exceptional and all of the chair covers we deliver are made to measure the venues we work in. You’ve won an award this year, tell me about that. Yes, we’ve won the regional business award this year which was sponsored by The Journal and the North East Chamber of Commerce. It was the regional final for ‘Best Newcomer’. We will now go

and compete representing the North East of England in October, in London. What does it mean to you to win these awards? Not as much as it means to me to give a good service to my clients. One of the good things about awards is they show that other people value and endorse our product. awards aside, what’s the best thing about your job? I was on income support when I started the company and to watch the growth of it is astounding. Also, the fact that every event I do is different. We’re so privileged that we are a preferred provider for the likes

“All the chair covers we deliver are made to measure...” is a farmer so we live on the farm and we have eight horses which we compete and show up and down the country. Very busy then! how do you find the time to fit it all in? With a very, very good team! I’ve got an exceptional team and they work well together and work round each other. For example, I was dressing weddings today from seven o’clock to lunch time and now someone else is taking over so I can show my horses tomorrow. of Rockliffe Hall and Redworth Hall. We’re working in stunning venues and every wedding is different, it’s just wonderful to see when you go to a bland, dark conference room and when you leave you are leaving a beautifully themed and bespoke wedding for your client. So how many weddings would you get through in a year? We do other events as well like Charity balls and corporate events and there’s always something going on. I retained the Durham and Darlington franchise and in this area alone I will do 300 plus events and weddings in a year. That gives you an idea of how many events my company does as a group! Wow! What’s home life like for you with so much to do? I just remarried my ex husband in March this year and we have a son who is 13. My husband

We always like to give brides-to-be some words of wisdom – care to share any? I think that what I find so upsetting is that so many brides are so stressed and taken up in the planning of it all that they don’t seem to enjoy it as much as they should, and I think that’s so sad. So many brides are wired on the morning of the wedding and they’re

worrying about what other people want from the wedding, rather than it being the day that they and their future husband want – a day they can enjoy. Very wise words! What about linen, any tips for brides deciding on that? What brides tend to do, and we encourage it, is say for example they’ve got a particular colour of flower - say a dusky pink rose. We encourage them to create a theme to tie it all in so that it matches, rather than having lots of random colours. Tie in a dusky pink accessory on chairs and have a dusky pink runner. Then they’ve got a consistent colour across the room, it’s got photographic value and when they look back at their album everything ties in and looks far classier.

Finally Sarah, in the venues you work in you must do some celebrity weddings. anything to tell? We are doing another Premiership footballer’s wedding this year but I can’t tell you who it is! AN EXCITING FUTURE IS WRITTEN IN THE STARS An upgraded star rating and refurbished function suite means it’s all change at Bannatyne Hotel Darlington. Words: Jade Turnbull Photography: Stan Seaton Photography

2012 has been a year of fantastic developments for one of Darlington’s most popular wedding venues. Bannatyne Hotel, on Southend Avenue has long been known as a trendy, boutiquestyle setting for couples across the North-East, and often even further afield. Now, following the extensive refurbishment of its Wilbur Suite, the main setting for weddings, the hotel hopes to attract even more happy couples for their big day. Improvements include the installation of a new bar and ornate chandeliers, and the addition of new, luxurious curtains, carpet and wall decorations. The lustrous new effect gives the room a much more romantic, bridal feel, with its dove and platinum palette evoking thoughts of a 1920s ballroom, with a clean, modern edge. And the good news doesn’t end there. The icing on the cake came when the hotel’s star rating was upgraded to 4 stars in the spring. However this doesn’t mean the team will be resting on its laurels any time soon. Further plans for improvement include future provisions for outdoor ceremonies in its beautiful gardens, overlooked by the original features of Maxine’s, an intimate, atmospheric setting where most ceremonies currently take place. With such a positive attitude to improvement, and as many have already discovered, it is easy to see why Bannatyne Hotel is the perfect place to say, “I do”. Darlington Weddings will host the Bannatyne Hotel wedding fayre, taking place on October 14th, 12-3pm. Preregister for your goodie bag at www.darlingtonweddings.co.uk

ow has the first year gone? Lucy: It’s gone amazingly well. All of the other businesses in the area have been really supportive, which has been great as it’s the first time Gemma and I have owned a business. We already have so many regular clients. It’s great to hear their feedback, and we feel we’ve created a friendly but professional environment for them. In addition to Gemma and myself, we now employ three therapists. What range of treatments do you offer? Lucy: Gemma enjoys doing nails, such as acrylic or Gelish treatments. She also likes to do eyelash tinting and extensions. I enjoy doing facials and massage, using Darphin products, which is a Parisian skincare brand used in a lot of

spas. We also offer spray tans, waxing and pedicures. Do you have many wedding bookings this year? Lucy: We do, we have very few Saturdays available now over the summer due to wedding bookings, but we’re also taking lots of bookings for mid-week weddings and we’re also working later to try to fit all of our brides in. We already have a number of bookings for 2013. How do you help Brides decide how they’d like their makeup for the day? Lucy: During their trial, we’ll speak to brides about the style of their dress and their colour scheme, and how they want their eyes or makeup. Then we’ll advise on what might suit their eye shape better, or whether they might need a little more makeup for their photos. Then we’ll let them try different

colours, and ask how their hair will look so that we can show them how the makeup will look with the hairstyle. Gemma: Sometimes they’ll have hen party treatments first so they know us already, which helps. We’ll have some Buck’s Fizz and girlie songs playing for them, and often they’ll all get pedicures.

What do you offer for the groom? Gemma: Often guys’ nails need looking at, so we’ll do cuticle treatments and manicures, and eyebrow waxing is a popular one. It’s nice that men are starting to look after themselves a bit more, even though they don’t like to admit it! Have any brides had any unusual requests? Gemma: One lady is having a purple theme for her makeup. Usually the bride wants to be more natural, adding colour with the bridesmaids, but this bride wants her eye makeup to match the bridesmaids dresses. Lucy: When she first said it we were a little surprised, but after the trial she looked really gorgeous and it’s good to get

these fab ideas from clients, as you can learn from it. What are your plans for the next 12 months? Lucy: We want to keep getting bigger and better, we’re looking into mechanical facials, 3 step brows and lava shell massage, so we’ll always keep looking for new products and treatments for our clients.

1. To get a Bridal glow, mix a highlighter with your foundation. Benefit's Sun Beam £18.50 is perfect for this. Described as 'liquid gold in a bottle', this beauty will give you a luscious golden glow. You can pat a small amount under the brow bones, on the cheek bones and down the centre of the nose for an extra Jlo glow! 2. Red flushes can appear out of nowhere when you're nervous and excited! The biggest mistake a bride can make when trying to cover the redness, is to apply too much make up. The best bet is to pat a concealer over your foundation on to the necessary areas. Benefits Boi-ing £16.50 is an industrial strength concealer with a light weight finish. It hides discolouration whilst still giving a natural look. Also, avoid red blushers if your prone to flushes. Try a coral shade instead.

t's a given that every bride wants to look head to toe fabulous on her big day. Creating a look that is memorable and original is a must for most brides and is easily achieved by picking headwear to compliment your personal style. Since starting up What Katy Did Next in 2011, I have created a range of headwear to suit various bridal styles. The handmade nature of my work is perfect for brides looking to be a little more adventurous and have an input in the design of their headpiece. I have worked with a number of brides

struggling to find the right headpiece, who have fallen in love with one or more of my pieces and the design has just needed a simple alteration in size, colour or fastening. Veils & Tiaras and tiaras aren’t for everyone. There are so many more options for the modern bride that have the potential to put their own spin on their wedding ensemble. With a rise in relaxed wedding styles a lot of brides have chosen something vintage and sparkly or organic and floral in place of a tiara. One of my best selling designs is dried lavender and feather hair wreath

‘Niamph’ from the Boho Collection. If you’re a bride looking for something specific or struggling to find a piece to match your dress get in touch with What Katy Did Next. We can arrange a free consultation or provide you with inspiration boards to help fill you with ideas for your dream headpiece! Darlington Weddings Magazine Readers can enjoy 10% off all Headwear orders made during September by quoting code ‘DARWED01’ when placing an order with What Katy Did Next. www.what-katy-did-next.co.uk

TRAVEL

AMERICA’S PLAYGROUND Las Vegas is the ultimate wedding destination... Perfect for Hen and Stag parties, Honeymoons and even destination weddings. This two mile strip of hotels and casinos is the ultimate bridal getaway!

HONEYMOON’S Darlington Weddings gets the scope on the best honeymoon destinations for 2013!

BALI This small but perfectly formed island is perfect for those who want to explore their destination with ease. Bali’s incredible sights include holy temples, idyllic beaches and a dense jungle, home to the Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary. During a day trip to the island of Nusa Penida, go snorkelling to enjoy its colourful coral and unique marine life, before heading to one of Bali’s many luxurious spas, where you can indulge in a traditional Balinese massage, and a flower-filled bath. As the sun sets, fine cuisine and live music is at its best in the lively village of Kuta.

LAS VEGAS Now known for so much more than its many casinos, Las Vegas is the entertainment capital of the world. A-list singers and mind-blowing magicians perform every night, while Cirque du Soleil shows are a must-see. Take a helicopter ride over The Strip, or head further afield for a once in a lifetime opportunity to fly over the Grand Canyon. With an endless array of pool parties, bars and clubs, this 24-hour-a-day town will ensure you have the time of your life.

ST LUCIA If swaying palm trees and long, sun-kissed beaches are what you’re looking for, then St Lucia is the destination for you. With unspoilt scenery that could be straight from a film set, the island boasts the world’s only drive-in volcano, and the Pitons World Heritage Site, two spectacular volcanic spires, rising from the sea. Intrepid explorers can hike through the lush rainforest, or take advantage of the crystal clear waters whilst scuba diving or sailing. The island is a truly exotic location, giving it a reputation as one of the most romantic destinations in the world.

DUBAI For the ultimate in decadence, Dubai is the place to really spoil yourself. Traditional souks sit alongside some of the most incredible examples of modern architecture, such as the stunning Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. After spending the day shopping for luxury brands in Dubai Mall, which also houses Dubai Aquamarina and Dubai Ice Rink, enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants overlooking the 30 acre Burj Khalifa Lake, where the world’s largest dancing fountain wows its audience every night.

Hen Weekends Allow your true personality to shine through, with a hen weekend to set you apart from the crowd…

Nurture Your Competitive Streak with an Adventure Weekend No longer just for Stags, an active weekend of go-karting, white water rafting and abseiling can be just as popular amongst Hens who like an adrenaline-filled challenge. With countless sites around the UK for all manner of high-octane experiences, weekends can be tailor-made to include outdoor pursuits for all ages and abilities, as well as relaxation and pampering afterwards, to soothe those aching muscles.

Harmonise With Your Hens at a Private Karaoke Session We all know Hens love a cheesy night out, but it’s not always easy finding bars and clubs that cater to each party’s ‘niche’ tastes. So why not create your own playlist for the night, and let everyone sing along without the embarrassment of strangers watching? OK Karaoke in Leeds offers booths that can be hired privately for groups to choose their ultimate party favourites, along with sound and lighting effects, props, and even waiter service, so no-one can hide at the bar! www.okkaraoke.co.uk

Match Your Wellies to Your Party Frock for a Glamping Experience For those who want to feel a little closer to nature, but can’t quite let go of their creature comforts, glamping is the perfect choice for a girlie break with a difference. With many of these sites’ luxury tents featuring fully-functioning kitchens and bathrooms, there’s no need to worry about sleeping near bugs on a lumpy forest floor. Instead, enjoy drinks and games around the log fire, in beautiful locations around the country, without anyone else around to spoil your fun.

Get into Character During a Theatre Break in London With such a huge choice of musicals showing in London’s West End, there really is a show to suit everyone, and each one can provide some fantastic fancy-dress opportunities. If you’ve spent the previous night dancing in heels, or are planning on doing just that after the show, then this is the ideal opportunity to rest your feet for a few hours, and enjoy some top-class entertainment that is guaranteed to ‘wow’ every time.
