“Transport to the place BEYOND” he sound of an Indian flute pierces me like a distant memory--and like a call to the future. I’ve just heard a song—you could call it a prayer—weaving together a contemporary Indian appeal for rain with an 18th century text from Aleppo, the cosmopolitan Syrian city now in rubble. Very soon, I’m listening to an old German lullaby that sounds a keynote for all the lullabies—the mothers’ prayers—that follow. I’m hearing the kind of devotional chant I once heard as I wandered around the Barkhor, at the heart of old Lhasa, and something that might come to me in the souq in Jerusalem, as night begins to fall. And yet even as the ravishing melodies on this twinned album—all female, all offerings to and from the spirit, from all corners of the world (and six major religious traditions)—carry me back to the Holy Land and Tibet, they do something deeper: they carry me back to that place inside of me in which I’m not thinking of names or divisions.

We all have something within us that’s beyond us: that’s the simple, universal truth I hear in every thread of music here. And music can take us to that shared darkness, that common light, precisely because it cuts across all languages and speaks to one and all.

It’s intimacy, the cry of the soul towards what it cherishes, made audible. The German protector of peace Dietrich Bonhoeffer called divinity “the beyond in the midst of our lives”—and it’s that beyond that I hear speaking to me, even listening to me, as I let the harmonies of this recording chime and interweave around me. It’s no coincidence, I think—though Tina Turner is a devoted, longtime Buddhist—that the music with which she’s often associated is called “Gospel” or “soul.”

Listen to the melodies and invocations of these sixteen pieces and you hear the sound of the world today, in which Heart Sutra thymes with Sufi poem, Sanskrit chant meets Swiss shepherds’ prayer, and all thought of “East” and “West,” of you and me, dissolve.

Mor Karbasi, to take one example, is a Sephardic child of Jerusalem with roots in Persia and Morocco. The celebrated composer Kareem Roustom brings Arabic traditions to a modern America in which the single most popular is the 13th century Islamic mystic Rumi.

When she shares a mantram from her ancestors’ Tibet, a Himalayan Buddhist nun is at once blessing the Switzerland where now she sings and sustaining a culture that, in its traditional homeland, is daily imperiled.

That’s the other note I hear in these songs, more urgent today than in many, many years: the note of hope.

Something in human nature seems to seek out the comfort of walls over the uncertainty of bridges, the safe place of the known over the questions that in fact may be our redemption and our heart. We hear more and more these days about restrictions on travel, refugees turned back, the world divided into “us and them.”

And yet when I listen to this music, I hear a deeper strain that is, you could say, beyond the reach of words. Beyond even silence, and all thought of old and new. When I walk around the Jokhang Temple in Tibet, I hear workers on the rooftops singing folk-songs, just as I grew used to hearing the call to prayer every morning before dawn in Old Damascus, and then the sound of Arabic music around the

shops as I walked back from the Umayyad Mosque.

Both Tibet and Syria are among the many places that are facing destruction and heartache every day.

But no one has found a way to take away their songs, let alone the faiths those songs speak for. And if they are banned in their homes, those songs and longings find new lives tomorrow in California, in Beirut, in Zurich. It’s this very spirit that moved His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who wrote a Foreword to the first of the four recordings in the BEYOND series, to call his most recent substantial book Beyond Religion.

I asked him about the title when we were onstage together in Jaipur a few years ago; it was an unexpected title from one of the most well-known and respected religious leaders on the planet. His point, His Holiness explained, was that religions still sometimes insist on this custom or that law; they unite their members into a circle, but in places they shut out everyone else. Too many of the wars he’s witnessed in his lifetime have been fought over a narrow reading of one religion or another. But something in our human spirit unites us even as categories divide: when someone jumps onto a subway track to help a stranger in need, when a doctor reaches towards a patient, she is not thinking about whether that person is Christian or Jew or Moslem or agnostic.

Religion is a wonderful addition to life, His Holiness sometimes says as we travel across Japan year after year (for nine Novembers now); it offers spice and savor, like tea. But the water without which no human can survive is simple everyday kindness and a sense of responsibility. And that’s available to all of us, every moment, whether we’re blessed with a personal belief or not. No one is exempt.

And no one is exempt from the special transport of this music, which takes us away from our public clamor, our disputes and frequent confusions, and into somewhere we recognize as a home we too often forget.

If you take a wide enough view—the “global perspective,” the Dalai Lama always urges upon us—as astronauts have been able to do, orbiting the earth, the lines and boundaries on our man-made maps are not visible at all; what those in space see is simply the rending, fragile, yearning home that joins us all, surrounded by what we can’t put a name to.

In Lourdes, in Amritsar, in Kyoto, in Mecca, tonight, people will be looking up at the stars and everything beyond us. That look, and that larger space which we all carry within, is what I experience when I turn on every one of these tracks and recall that music is the voice of the beyond. This is the beyond in the midst of the right now, and with it comes a liberating reminder that what we see and what we are may not be all that is.

Music for tolerance and love For the fourth time BEYOND release their global message. «AWAKENING BEYOND» is a heartfelt offering by many musicians and voices, a «note of hope» to inspire mutual respect, compassion, and dialogue between religions and cultures around the world, and to awaken tolerance and love.

In 2016 the project blossomed to include six singers from six different cultures and an orchestra. The resulting double-album, «AWAKENING BEYOND» features lyrics, prayers and lullabies sung by Regula Curti from Zurich, Switzerland; Ani Choying from Kathmandu, Nepal; Dima Orsho from Damascus, Syria/USA; Sawani Shende Sathaye from Pune, India; and Mor Karbasi, from Jerusalem. Tina Turner from Switzerland/USA speaks the spiritual and universal message. Specially qualified musicians were engaged to perform the authentic sounds of each culture with traditional instruments. The original score was written by Syrian-American composer and producer Kareem Roustom and the soundtrack was performed by the world-renown Philharmonia Orchestra London and recorded at historic Abbey Road studio.

THE BEYOND HISTORY In 2008 BEYOND MUSIC launched with Tina Turner, Regula Curti and Dechen Shak-Dagsay to celebrate

their various cultural and spiritual backgrounds through music. Their first album, «BEYOND (Buddhist and Christian Prayers)», received the blessing of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. This platinum-selling album sparked international interest, and it became clear that BEYOND held the seed of something larger. It would become part of a global awakening toward mutual appreciation and dialogue between cultures and spiritual traditions.

In 2011, empowered by their initial success, the three singers produced a second album, «CHILDREN BEYOND». Together with thirty children representing six different cultures and religions they created new music to foster understanding, compassion, and tolerance.

The Gold award-winning album was selected to become soundtrack of the film «Planting Seeds of Mindfulness» initiated by Thich Nhat Hanh, Master of Mindfulness.

In 2014 Sawani Shende Sathaye, master of Indian classical music, representing the Hindu tradition, joined BEYOND Music, and the four women singers released a third album, «LOVE WITHIN BEYOND», Praise to all the Divine Mothers, Goddesses and Saints. Enriched through Indian musicians and Hindu prayers the music gained access to the world of yoga. This production was given the honorable TARA Award, a tribute for compassionate actions in society.

met Regula Curti on a cold but beautiful winter day at her lovely Seeschau Center. I was deeply touched while listening to Awakening Beyond. In a time where so many people lost the ability to care about others, hearing this calling touched my soul and I broke into tears.

This Christmas give love, compassion and tolerance.

DY: So tell me Regula how did the idea for the fourth CD come along?

Regula: That was always like a vision to have the most important world cultures together, with all the women of those world cultures which are actually, if you think about it, many other cultures because over generations they had of course parents, grandparents and their grandparents are from another culture as well. To discover the essence of each person and put them together into music is amazing. To unite everyone through singing and to unite everyone through music is incredible.

I think it is very universal and helps us to connect on a very deep level. Without any prejudice, no names, no divisions and as I travel a lot, I have very international upbringing. It was so important for me to bring something back into the world that unites, and that helps people to develop respect towards each other, tolerance. Because I have seen so many sad situations in life where human beings have been treated very badly and have treated each other very badly. I am just trying to bring more empathy into the world, more love and more understanding for each other. Also the beauty of each culture is so important to me, each tradition has such beauty. To help people realise it is not only our tradition that is the nicest or the best, it is to be inspired by all the other traditions and the beauty of the world and its diversity. All the cultures and all the wonderful traditions.

DY: You are in the fourth CD so how did this idea start from the beginning? Did you one day realise you needed to contribute more or how did this entire project start?

Regula: Well, I believe it started with the wish to give back something to the world. Everybody has their own tool and my tool is music. My tool is the potential, the possibility to bring people together, to bring women together in this project. The knowledge of different kinds of singing or different kinds of music, my understanding of music is very broad and I have the knowledge about the different traditions. I also have some

management skills because you really need to have some management skills to bring such a huge project together. It is a project where orchestras are involved, different instruments for each tradition are involved, you have to find all the musicians and then of course you have to bring all those people together.

You have to find the right composer to bring the right music and the composer has to be able to understand all the world cultures and all the different musical traditions to be able to do a composition of that kind.

DY: One thing that I could notice by listening to your music, because lately I have been listening to all of them, is that it is really something that touches the soul. Every person is different but for me, there were some songs that I actually cried because you really touched me so much. I think it is such a beautiful work really that you are doing. What is the kind of response you are getting from the public? Are they feeling the same way? Are they relating to the music?

Regula: I think the power of this music is really the reason you are touched on a very deep level, touched on a soul level and it brings back memories perhaps even ancient memories, it brings back feelings also. Feelings of being whole, because I believe in becoming whole with this planet and becoming whole means in a sense pure. This purity is in this music and you are touched by the purity of the sound and the music and the women and the women`s history also because our personalities are in the vibration of that sound. With all the suffering, with all the joy, with everything we experienced in life. We bring it all into the music, and that makes you whole, thats how you are touched. You are home in a way, you feel the same and it is a reminder of something you also have lost.

DY: It truly is for me, and I hope that everybody has the same result, it is really about healing, somehow it touches you so deeply that I think it helps with the process. I think that everybody needs healing in one way or another. That is why I think this project it so beautiful. Thank you so much, it was an honour!

AWAKENING

BEYOND Ani Choying Ani is a world famous singing nun from the Himalaya. She was born in Kathmandu, Nepal. Brought up under the guidance of a great meditation master from Tibet, her spiritual meditative songs have been enjoyed by people all around the world since two decades. In 2009 she published her book “Singing for freedom”.

Mor Karbasi Mor was born and raised in Jerusalem to a mother of Moroccan origins and a father of Persian ancestry. She has her own unique and passionate voice, influenced by her Jewish heritage. She embraces both the contemporary and ancient, by writing her own music, and creating interpretations of songs and melodies passed down through generations throughout the Sephardic Diaspora.

Sawani Shende Sathaye Sawani is the torchbearer of the great Indian Classical Music tradition. She has received excellent training from her Gurus, Shrimati Kusum Shende, her grandmother, Dr. Shri Sanjeev Shende, her father and from her legendary guru of Indian semi-classical music, Dr. Shrimati Veena. She has performed worldwide enthralling the audiences with her soulful singing. Sawani is on board BEYOND for the second time! She lives in Pune, India.

Artists Bio

Tina Turner The legendary Tina Turner, Queen of Rock and Roll, was born in the Baptist tradition, and later, during difficult times, she found empowerment and peace in Buddhist chants like Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Since 2009 she dedicates her compassion, wisdom, and her incomparable voice to the BEYOND Music projects. Through revenues of the four BEYOND albums she generously supports a children’s hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.

Currently she lives in Switzerland.

Regula Curti Regula is founder of the BEYOND FOUNDATION and of SEESCHAU, Center for Music Therapy and Yoga, based in Zurich, Switzerland.

As a trained musician and vocalist she released worldwide successfully four CDs together with Tina Turner and other visionary singers. These recordings are part of the vision of the BEYOND MUSIC project for global peace and tolerance.

Her life is dedicated to the healing power of music.

Dima Orsho Dima is an established performer and recorded artist from Damascus, Syria living in Chicago.

She holds a Master’s degree in opera performance and Bachelor’s degree in clarinet. Dima brings an instrument player’s sensibility to her vocalizations, adding to the magic of her performances, and her approach to music is culturally nuanced, forging together influences - from classical, to jazz, to Middle Eastern music.

Kareem Roustom Syrian-American composer Kareem Roustom is an accomplished and much sought after composer of orchestral, chamber & choral music as well as traditional Arab music. His music has been performed at renowned festivals in the USA, Europe and the Near East. He was born and raised in Damascus and currently lives in the Northeastern USA.

rilliant is the first word that comes to mind when we hear about Romero Jennnings. The Director of Makeup Artistry for M.A.C. Cosmetics took some time of his extremely busy schedule to talk to us. What a distinct honour it was to hear his beauty tips and advices. I cannot wait to visit NY and meet Romero and his Fabulous Mom. How was your transition from Fashion to make-up?

Attending Fashion institute of technology in he 1980’s was a good foundation for my makeup career! It allowed me to appreciate detail and discipline! Both makeup and fashion design require them.

Samira Samii: The first thing I do when I wake up, after I visit the bathroom, is brew my cappuccino. The next thing I do is my Sit-Up exercise than I turn on my iPhone.

You work as a sports manager and yet you are highly fashionable. Who is your style icon?

Samira Samii: I don’t have any style icon. I have my own style. For my style comes from inside and from knowing who I am. Style doesn’t come from wanting to be somebody else. My style motto is elegant chic and when I dress like this I feel comfortable. It gives me and my surroundings a positive energy.

Tell us your skincare secrets: Samira Samii: I don’t drink alcohol and don’t smoke. I do sports, eat healthy and of course, I drink around 2-3 liters of water a day.

hat do you like the most about your job?

Samira Samii: To me my job is the most exciting job in the world. I work with international people from different cultures and traditions. Many of them are well-known stars and global celebrities. Soccer is an emotional game and when your heart is beating for your team there are no differences between rich and poor, background or education. These emotions are fascinating to me every day and I love to show the world that also women can be successful soccer managers.

What fashion means to you? ​ Samira Samii: To me Fashion is about expressing my identity by using my lovely clothes to tell the world something about me. Fashion is my passion and my attitude. Fashion gives me the possibility to express myself through my emotions and my interests.

Do you have a preferred designer?

Samira Samii: I wear many luxury labels like Chanel, Prada, Gucci, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Hermes and Oscar De La Renta. But I prefer Chanel and Prada because they have my size XS and I love their style with pure elegance and monochrome designs.

What trends you wish would never come back?

Samira Samii: Platform Sneakers, Pants On The Ground and Socks with Heels. This is another trend I will never and don’t want to understand. Wearing socks with high heels cancels out the sexiness of the high heel.

What can’t leave your home without?

Samira Samii: I can’t leave the house without makeup, perfume, keys, iPhone and my credit cards sure my ID-Card.

What is your signature look?

Samira Samii: My signature look is almost every day real High Heels, elegant dresses for day and night, a Hermes bag for the day and a clutch for night.

What is your skincare routine? Do you have a favourite product or products?

Samira Samii: I am ambassador of “Beautylinestore” in Germany. They have just luxury products for Skin. I use Cell Premium No.1.

Cell Premium is “Top of Swiss Skincare” products. I use the whole product line: Tonic, Cleanser and Eye Cream. Every skin needs special attention and care.

What are your favourite make-up products this season?

Samira Samii: This season my favourite make-up is Horst Kirchberger and Tom Ford.

What are the places you keep coming back for?

Samira Samii: I always keep coming back to St. Tropez for my summer holidays. This is my second home and I love French lifestyle, fashion, architecture and food at the Cote d’Azur.

What is the best spa in Germany or anywhere in the world?

Samira Samii: In Germany my favourite is definitely “Schloss Elmau” and in the world I like most “La Reserve” Geneve, Switzerland What is your message to our Swiss readers about Fashion and Beauty?

Samira Samii: Beauty begins when you decide to be yourself. I think there is beauty in every woman. Beauty has nothing to do with looks. It is how you are as a person and how others feel about you. In a world full of trends only the classics will survive forever.

Every lady needs 3 classics 1. Right shoes, because then your body sways to a different kind of tempo 2. Little black dress makes you always classy and fabulous 3. Always smile, fashion is happiness.

After attending the famous Carita beauty school in Paris under the tutelage of Thibault Vabre, an apprenticeship with famed makeup artist Olivier Echaudemaison opened up François’ world, and the industry soon noticed him. With the encouragement of Polly Mellon, then editor-In-chief of American Vogue, François moved to New York City in 1984.

He instantly catapulted to success, working for publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, and Vogue. He collaborated with designers including Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, D&G and Anna Sui for their runway shows. Advertising campaigns followed shortly thereafter for clients such as Versace, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and Barneys New York.

A perfectionist at heart, François eventually became frustrated with the limitations of the cosmetics lines available to him. In November 1994, François launched a collection of twelve lipsticks at Barneys New York. The overwhelming demand for his lip colors inspired François to create a full line of cosmetics and skincare.

François expanded his creativity further by delving into photography. His unique style has garnered recognition from the industry globally, appearing in American Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair and Marie Claire, among others. François also shoots all NARS ad campaigns with an approach that is as visionary as his makeup philosophy.

Capitalizing on his success as a photographer and makeup artist, François has released a number of successful books since 1999. X-Ray, his first photography book featured portraits of the style elite to the unknown. Makeup Your Mind was François’ first makeup manual, featuring before-and-after images of some of the world’s most recognizable models, followed by Makeup Your Mind: Express Yourself –the second in his trilogy of makeup manuals– in 2011. In celebration of NARS 15th year anniversary, 15X15 launched which included a collection of celebrities posed in different characters. In a departure from his typical subject matter, François’ most recent book Faery Lands features a collection of personal photography from Tahiti.

Nars paid tribute to his beginnings and the tremendous success that followed by celebrating the brand’s 20th Anniversary in September 2014 with a collection of 40 Audacious Lipsticks. Continually working on new projects to grow and develop the brand, François is the creative force behind NARS, a successful photographer and a legend in makeup artistry.

In March 2016, François was made “Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur” the highest order bestowed by the French Government for military and civil merits who have made a remarkable impression on France and the world.

A Brief History of GB Kent & Sons GB Kent was founded in 1777 when an ambitious William Kent decided to leave Yorkshire for London to make his fortune crafting ‘superior” brushes. His reputation grew, and by the 1820’s he was making brushes for George IV and received a Royal Warrant of Approval confirming that his brushes were indeed quality brushes. Since then Kent has received a total of 9 warrants from consecutive monarchs for services to supply hair, and personal care brushes to the Royal Household.

What is significant is that William’s belief to design and craft to a level of excellence remains the mainstay of Kent today. With over 238 years of experience and innovation it is that attention to detail that has kept Kent at the forefront of Kent’s reputation..

A Royal Warrant means different things to people and only a few understand what having a Royal Warrant entails. The majority recognise the Royal Coat of Arms, and see it as a mark of an excellent product or service, fit for a King or Queen that provides that company with a seal of approval.

ven the best rules sometimes need to be broken. As founder and editor in chief of DARLINGYOU, I make a rule not to personally endorse products, because I want you— my darling reader!—to freely make your own choices as you leaf through our pages.

But when it comes to nails, I confess to an emotional bias. My nails have given me trouble for years, and I think my struggle will be painfully familiar to many.

Finding a solution for myself—a beautiful, enduring, healthy solution—was such a breakthrough, I’d be letting you down if I didn’t share my journey. After all, this magazine is about more than looking good. It’s about living well, and giving yourself those precious moments of quality that we Swiss were born for.

So, I’m going to tell you my story.

Disaster Strikes It all begins around two years ago, with a moment of horror, looking at my nails after the varnish was removed and seeing them so weak and damaged, I wanted to hide them. Is this a rare experience? Sadly, I don’t think so.

Most women have bought into the nail industry’s deal: the price of beautiful nails is progressive damage to the nail bed. Oh, and you might expect quite some pain and discomfort thrown in for good measure.

I certainly did. Looking back now, it’s amazing to me how millions of women put up with this equation. I’m here to tell you, it doesn’t have to be.

Acrylics and gels both weaken the natural nail over time. That’s just physics. Add poor craftsmanship, and you’re in for some real trouble.

That’s what happened to me two years ago: a clumsy technician used the polishing machine too harshly.

The impact was more than my nails could manage.

They simply didn’t recover. Being busy with launching DARLINGYOU after a career or running many businesses, I lacked the time to take special care of my nails. So for two years, I stopped varnishing them.

Now, like most women, I love having beautiful nails.

They make me feel good about myself, and color is a big part of self-expression. I describe myself as “a red kinda gal”—so flashing a perfect set of deep red nails feels great: that’s just me being me. It was hard to miss out on nail beauty for all that time.

A Moment of Hope Well, one day, I came across a little-known Beauty Center in Zurich, called MayKai. It’s a beautiful space, with a large cosmetic center where they offer all sorts of beauty treatments like facials, pedicures and manicures. You can get coffee there, too, and after I’d finished a cup I wandered into the nail area.

What I saw surprised me. A Technician was dipping the clients’ nails in little pots of colored powder bearing a label I didn’t recognize: SNS. I was used to nail technicians painting on varnish with a brush. I’d never seen anything like this. When I looked closely at the results, I was mesmerized. The nails were radiantly beautiful.

Maria, the owner, explained the process to me: and she understood my frustration with the gels that I’d been using all those years. She told me the dipping powder process was different. She claimed that it leaves the nails in a healthy condition—even healthier than they were before.

You can imagine, I was deeply skeptical. I’m the editor of a beauty magazine in a small market, Switzerland.

That means I get bombarded with products of every kind, each one wrapped in extraordinary promises.

I’ve learned to believe very little of the marketing I see.

But Maria was a delightful person, and it was obvious she was truly convinced she could help me. She offered a free treatment, so I could see for myself.

Dipping into Something New Cautious to a fault, I decided my first experiment would be with a strictly natural look. No glorious reds for me: I was too afraid something might go wrong.

But I brought my daughter along with me, and she was more adventurous. She chose a lovely baby-soft mauve.

Maria spent a long time on the service, and that already gave me confidence. Quality takes time: that’s a law of life, and anyone who promises perfection in minutes is best avoided. She carefully prepared each nail, using a light clear moisture from a bottle. Then she dipped each finger quickly into the powder jars.

It was fascinating to watch how evenly and lightly the powder spread over the nail, composing a clear, even surface. There was an extensive finishing process, and Maria attended scrupulously to every tiny detail.

I was thrilled with the result. My nails looked natural: in fact, I’ve never seen any manicure that produced such a natural-looking result. They really looked like

my own nails, in perfect condition. Better still, they felt natural, too. They were exceptionally lightweight, with none of that tight, heavy feeling gels and acrylics can give you. I was pleased… but still skeptical. The first test of any manicure is how they survive everyday use.

Reality Check: Beauty Put to the Test In my experience, gels and acrylics often start breaking apart or lifting off the nail about a week after the manicure. It just takes a careless move, a slight collision with a faucet or saucepan, and your new nails begin to detach. That’s how water gets in, fungus grows, and all the other problems that women have learned to suffer in the cause of nail beauty. So I was watching anxiously.

A week went by, then another, and a third… My nails remained in perfect condition. I truly believe I could have gone longer—and Maria later told me that some of her clients come in every 4 or 5 weeks.

But in my view, the biggest test of a nail polish of any kind is not how it looks, or even how it endures. It’s what happens when you remove it. How are your natural nails after two or three weeks under cover of an acrylic or gel? For most women, the answer isn’t positive. For me, as I’ve told you, it was disastrous. So I was especially anxious the day I returned to Maria’s salon for a new manicure. What would I see when the dipping powder surface was removed?

I was astonished. Not only were my nails undamaged by the treatment, they were visibly healthier and stronger than before! Now I felt emboldened. I asked for my beloved red. The color itself was stunning, and I left Maykai confident that I’d be enjoying strong, lightweight nails for the next two weeks or more. And better still, I knew that my natural nail bed was rapidly recovering underneath.

My View — Your Choice I’ve told you that I’m hesitant to endorse products, but I owe you a distinction here. The experience I had was with a particular brand, SNS. They originated the dipping powder concept, back in the 1990s, and they are still the leading light in this sector of the nail world.

Needless to say, they’ve been followed by many imitators, including some big-brand names. It’s up to you, but my counsel would always be to choose the original, and the best.

There’s one special reason, apart from product quality, I have to recommend SNS. Dipping powders require skill to apply. This isn’t something to do yourself at home. I saw from Maria’s work just how much expertise is needed to get a perfect result. I’ve done some research on this, and there’s no doubt that SNS is passionate about training. The company’s founder, Joe Nguyen and his wife Jasmine still spend a lot of their time flying around training technicians on the art of dipping powder application. That’s impressive dedication, and I’m wearing the results on my nails.

So now you know the secret life of Flavia’s nails! I share this story with you in the hope that you’ll find a new equation for yourself: beauty plus health — not beauty instead of health. That should apply to your whole life, but where to start than with your own precious nails?

Handle People Spreading Rumours About You

Y

our life was going by completely normal, nothing out of the ordinary when suddenly you are bombarded with new information. A wave of anxiety and fear crashes over you. Someone was talking smack about you. First of all let`s make something very clear, everyone has rumors spread about them. Everyone. Whispers of all their secrets true or untrue are lost in the school/ workplace hallways and are eventually buried forever. Another thing I would like to reiterate is that this is certainly not the last time this will happen. People are constantly talking about other people.

That`s why celebrities and reality TV shows exist, people just have a natural curiosity about other people. So, how do you go about it when someone has spread rumours about you?

The truth is, it depends on the type of person you are. I have done all three of these methods and they all have three very different outcomes, which are as follows: If you are a shy, quiet, reserved individual who doesn’t like to put yourself in the spotlight, I would recommend just letting it pass. Trust me within a week no one will be talking about you.

The spotlight would have already shifted onto another individual, you`re good!

If you are a shameless, proud, independent individual who admits to what you’ve done then I would recommend just telling the truth. Get the word out there that the rumours are true or untrue and stand proudly to whatever you’ve done. You will be remembered as a 138 DARLINGYOU SCHWEIZ - DECEMBER 2017 SPECIAL

fearless individual!

If you are a ballsy, inpatient, brave individual who isn`t afraid to start some beef, I would recommend confronting the problem head on. Do some digging; find out who is talking that smack. Then confront them IN PERSON! I cannot emphasise this enough. Do NOT start up online beef because no matter how much evidence you give, there is no true way of believing you. However, if you confront this individual in person you will: 1) Appear to be a mature, brave, independent individual; 2) Show that you aren`t afraid to stir the pot when needed and lastly; 3) Show that you won`t let anyone talk that way about you.

Just a warning though, do NOT use this method every time someone talks smack, use this method when serious rumours are being spread.

If you use this method every time it will lose its weight and people will just see you as aggressive.

Take care my wonderful humans and remember, people will believe what they want to believe so you might as well do whatever you want.

Ida Gut is a qualified seamstress and a graduate of Zurich University of the Arts. After internships in Paris and Zurich she designed her first independent collection in 1993 and opened her first shop three years later. After finding success in fabric design and creating professional uniforms, the Ida Gut team is now focused on developing and refining its own collection. The new atelier at Ankerstrasse 112 in the middle of Zurich opened in 2007 and the Ida Gut concern has been a limited company since 2009.

t was a cold November afternoon when your Editor in Chief traveled to Winterthur to meet Felix, the Onwer of Terra Keramik. I have know his unique products long enough as I have been a happy customer for almost 10 years.

Felix started his business around 30 years ago with much love, inspiration and determination.

It was about time to gift our readers with this wonderful history. #PROUDTOBESWISS

another two rounds in the kiln. Afterwards, we glaze all the products so they have their gorgeous shine. It is quite a long process but worth the result. We are currently working with a phenomenal artist to try and make a new surface or design. It`s going to be very special.

DY: I literally bought every plate, cup and tea kettle in your store. I think they are completely phenomenal! So, why did you decide to start this business?

Felix: I started in the 80s. In my first job I learned technical design, for building streets. After I finished everything, I thought to myself - no I wouldn’t like to do this all my life. I would like to do something with my hands and something where I can work for myself not only to make money but to be happy, to be proud. Pottery work became quite popular and I fell in love with it. My mother was a Clothing Saleswoman and my father was a Wood Worker so I get a lot of my inspiration by them and the way they raised me.

While visiting his store, where all his products are handcrafted to perfection, we sat down for a talk: DY: So absolutely everything here is handcrafted? One by one?

Felix: Yes, everything is handcrafted.

We are always trying to make something new and break tradition. But we make it all by ourselves. It starts with the clay.

We get the clay from Germany, we order five tons and it comes in one big truck.

And then we get to work! We really do everything.

DY: Wow that is incredible!

Felix: Sometimes we work together with other pottery experts to make the forms.

But other than that it is all our work.

a special clay. We don`t fire the clay on very high temperatures so we get good colour. If you have very high temperatures the colours go away. So, we bring two things together and that is the very special thing about our ceramic. The people may not notice but it is hard work to make colours like this.

DY: That is truly amazing, I am so impressed! So what is the step by step of your work?

Felix: First we make the forms with the clay. Then they go for their first round in the kiln, then we paint and they have

DY: I can’t wait to see the results Felix.

Tell me, how do you choose the colours? It doesn’t really matter what colours you create, they always come out so beautifully every single time.

Felix: Well, I make the colours by myself, I use colour stains. The thing is, normally you have very nice colour but not good ceramic clay, because if you fire high you will have very hard ceramic but not very nice colours. On the other hand, we have

DY: Meeting you and getting to know the story of Terra Keramik has been such a fenomenal experience for me. It is really nice as a costumer of many years to go behind the scenes and see how everything is made.
