BOOKHAUS

Hyde Park, Houston, Tx

The BookHaus is a space where books, ideas, art and interactions can be exchanged with neighbors and community members. Through analysis diagrams of the facade and studying the mass and void of this particular house, a protruding volume from the facade that resembled the silhouette of the little library. This analysis is what led to choosing the site on 2415 Mcduffie St to be an icon of exchange for our business proposal. Through exploration of different configurations of this shape, a new system was created in which would ultimately transform this bleak facade into one that would be more inviting and consisting of moving window panels that users are able to interact with for a more interactive experience while reading.

Interwoven Activities

Project Row Houses, Houston, Tx

Interwoven Activities focuses on bringing the culture of African Americans in Third Ward to the single mothers and their children that currently reside in Project Row Houses. Taking the loom as a source of inspiration, our scaffolfing system design creates interior moments in which the scafollding would act as the “warp” and the people weaving through these interwoven spaces would create the “weft” of this overall cultural fabric. These moments of pause within the system allow different activities such as weaving, music, art, and reading, such activities that would allow children to learn about their cuture alongside their mothers. This space not only acting as a cultural center also allows other services and benefits for the mothers in Project Row House, such as a communal kitchen, dining space, and laundry spaces.

Urban Detour

Meeting of Cultures, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

‘Urban Detour’ is an urban intervention that gives tourists and other passersby a moment of pause, time to reflect, and take a break from their troubles. Located in the alleys of Sarajevo, our project combines the comforting interior elements of traditional Bosnian homes with the more gritty and rough exterior elements of an alley to create an “urban living room”. Our project resembles a beacon of light in dark unprecedented times. Through participating in activities that are a part of basic humanity such as gathering with friends to watch a film, playing games, shopping, or chatting over coffee, ‘Urban Detour’ allows people to feel a sense of normalcy

Performative Plastic

Main St. Theatre, Port Lavaca, Tx

Perfomative Plastic’s mission is to tackle the plastic waste in the Lavaca Bay in a more community friendly matter in which the community can have an impact as a whole. Children and young adults can gather waste as a form of contribution and awareness to the issue in the bay and upcycle materials in the form of a workshop. Plastic can be melted and remade into props used in the Main St. theatre. By tackling the pollution issue, we are reviving the theatre loved by the older generation and involving the younger generation. Our goal is to bring awareness to ongoing environmental concern while also allowing the theatre to be the epicenter for entertainment and sustainability.
