When i think about architecture, what comes to mind is something that has the ability to change the way we interpret space, enhance ones way of living, open the imaginations of every individual and encourage change. Architecture became a passion when I was 15, and after that I began my journey of discovery.

COMMON HOUSE The ‘common house’ project focused on ‘co-housing’, a scheme which consists of creating a community of residents who occupy individual homes but have a central point known as the common house. This style of housing was birthed within Scandinavia and Germany in the 1970’s. The style of housing could still be described as fairly new within the UK but one which has stood strong through the years and is taking effect. This project took us to Berlin where the studio was able to see a few examples of co-housing. It was a good insight into seeing how it effected the elderly community, the community itself and brought to mind freedom of the institutional opressed. The studio decided the area of intervention would be East London, Poplar.

PLaySCAPE After researching the area, looking at the history of Walworth and Penrose in particular, it was time for the studio to intervine on the chosen sites of focus. It was time to consider how we could enhance the life and business of the area. When visiting the site on numerous occcasions I noticed that the High street is considered and has maintained a view of being the threshold between the fast paced high street and the abandoned spaces behind the high street. Visiting the Penrose Grove I noticed the community club and the playground a lot more than anything else. The first thought that came to mind is that, It shouldn’t be this quiet, with these two elements. When you see a playground and a community club the view and sound should be thriving and cheerful. When standing on the site I dont get that feeling. I started my intervention with sketches. The aims for my proposal are to re instill this sense of community, gathering of many cultures and ages through one apsect. This aspect is motion. The narative I want to instill is understood through the following text: The child who plays on the swings, sees all , the elderly that plants in the garden, sees all, the person who takes a seat, sees all and the human being who looks into the mirror, sees everything. Everything is visible with movement and architecture is not only visible through buildings.

WALWORTH CRAFTS Brief 4 would have the studio looking at turning our crative interventions and transitioning into design a space of vocation. In essence giving back to Walworth how we saw fit anid continuing that message we have been pushing from day one. The vision for my design is to first of all create a vocational base for the whole of Walworth but in a suitable section of the area. The building will compliment the materiality of the existing buildings which make up Carter Place, Penrose Grove and Penrose Street. The building will be a beacon and encourage foot traffic from all regions of the site but most importantly behave as a to and through point from the high street and the block. The spaces will be open, full of natural light, the construction elements visible to everyone and tall ceilings. The design will include the two Urban Archteypal Forms which have been a consistent force throughout all the brief’s. These forms will be centered around the ‘Heart’ of the site. The following aspects along with the programme of the building will create a sense of fluidity and create a continious threshold moving from east, west, north to south. Further understanding of the vision will be shown in the following pages.
