Lexicon Sculpture: A work of art that is produced by carving or shaping stone, wood, clay, or other materials. Monolith: A large single upright block of stone, especially one that was shapes into a column Object: Anything that has a fixed shape or form, that you can touch or see, and that is not alive

The Agenda The agenda of this residency program is to establish an institute that is able to increase the possibility to expand the vision of the well-known traditional sculptors through interaction and collaboration between public and other artists. The agenda can be achieved through four major ways.

1. To create a sculpture like architecture that has different perception between interior and exterior. 2. Increasing the possibility of observation. 3. Adding interacting programs. 4. Negotiation and communication.

2

Design Strategy The Design strategy of the Magnifier Center is inspired by the Seattle Public Library designed by OMA(Diagram on the right). It starts with analyze and find out the relationship between each program. While finding out the relationship between each programs, it automatically creates the basic overall form. However, finding out the relationship between programs is not an easy task, it requires a deep analysis of program and a lot of study models toward different directions and finally only combine the very essence of the strongest study models.

After researching about sculpture, the element that catch my interest the most the that sculptor is an out the relationship of space, the space of solid, the space of void, the space that is created by the another space and so on. Therefore, creating an sculpture like architecture becomes the direction tage of this direction is to 1. Helping sculptors to think how are they going to design and display the and impacting form. 2. Through providing different perception between interior and exterior space, see the spatial relationship from different perspectives.

Observation is one of the most important skill and task that each artist and designer has to deal with. There are several observation gap on the floor that are located at specific place that allow artists and public to observe each other without losing their privacy.

The Agenda O+6 is a sustainable demonstration project sited in an olive grove which is part of the campus of St. Mattew Parish. AN existing gymnasium is repurposed to accommodate a new program combining six residences with an organic olive oil production and retail space. Visitors enroll in a two primary focus:

N

1. Earth-friendly lifestyle with an emphasis on understanding greenbuilding potential in the built environment. 2. The integral relationship between human and natural environ20 ment. 30

2nd Floor Plan

To encourage the goal of the integral relationship between human and natural environment. There are three specific spatial and lighting conditions that are designed in the residential area. Visitors will move from isolated from nature to connected to nature progressively through different period.

Image Analysis

There are three main geometries in the microscopes images, such as pentagon, hexagon and heptagon that are arranged and placed in random probability. Adjacent is not the only relationship between each unit. They are also touching and interlocking to one another.

Design Strategy

There are two potential to see the relationship between positive and negative space. In the image, different level of density can be read as different spatial conditions in a three dimensional perspective.

INTERLOCKING

EXTRUSION

Although one geometry can only be read as single information in 2D perspective, however, each unit can be extruded in different length with different starting point in 3D perspective. (B)

(B)

For manufacture method, tiling each unit and place them right next to another will be the easiest way to achieve the design. Stacking is opposite manufacture method.

The relationship of each unit is a swarm organization. Several single units can compose to a larger unit and grow to a bigger scale, yet still remain the spatial characteristic of spatial condition.

(A) In image (A), negative space is defined by other solids. In image (B), negative space is defined by boundary. 21

Assembly Operation

A. Folding The advantage of holding is that it is the most efficient way to create a straight surface to only move in one direction. It is also the most sustainable method to use material wisely. B. Stacking Stacking needs a lot of preparation before the process of stacking itself, such as producing a lot of pre-fabricated modular. It is also possibly one of the most unsustainable method due to the preparation of modular pre-fabrication.

22

By manipulating the length of extrusion with a linier spatial organization, each hexagon modular is able to achieve the require of its functionality based on the program of bookstore. It includes book shelves, storage, display case, cash wrap and billboard.

Fashion Atelier 29

Design Concept The fashion atelier 1 is a fashion designers residency that contains resident, studio, archieve, storage, boutique, administration office, runway, fabrication and prototype space. This project is to discuss how does natural light effect on architecture design base on the different requirement of each program.

Design Concept The fashion atelier 2 is the extension of atelier 1 by adding 2 extra programs - cafe and observation platform. The argument of this project is to study the co-relationship between privacy, visibility of site and the requirement of the program.

Design Concept The idea of this project is to design a table that captures the beauty of landscape and able to receive other information such as size, weight, and shape that is given simutaneously and give feedback.
