THEATRE DESIGN
OVERVIEW THEATRE DESIGN - GHASHIRAM KOTWAL. Site: Bhaskhar Vitthal, Vadodara. Semester: 8 Guided by: Ms. Sunita Dalvi Ghashiram Kotwal is a Marathi play written by Vijay Tendulkar in 1972. It’s a controversial play that focuses on violence, treachery, sexuality
and
immorality.
Complexity
of
religion, power and sex and obligation of morals is shown in the play. The focus of the play is on the dance and music styles through which the message is depicted. Movement, singing in rhythm, expression and gestures are main things that defined it. When one looks at the overall play, the beginning gives an impression of how things are going to flow in a direction but its rather divided into smaller turns or nodes as different scenes. There are less restrictions for Brahmins during the rule during Nana Phadnavis which is why Brahmins are fearless.

The impression it gives is of an axis that remains till the end but after a certain point, it breaks into different axis although the main axis remains constant but it slightly fades away. If focused on how things are portrayed and how things end up, basically taking the perception of the play that one forms in the beginning, its they followed a grid which fades away in the end. There is one constant in the centre, which could be the power and everything around is constantly changing or flowing which is centrifugal.

CORPORATE OFFICE DESIGN
OVERVIEW CORPORATE OFFICE DESIGN FOR SKYPE Site: Decathlon Vadodara Semester: 7 Guided by: Prof. Percy Pithawala Skype is an application that provides video chat and voice call services. “Our vision for skype has always been to build the world’s largest
communications
business
and
revolutionize the ease with which people can communicate through the internet” said Zennstrom, CEO of skype. Skype technology facilitates communication so should their work space was their company philosophy. Fluid layout was used most of their office layout which shows roving nature of skype employees. To support this, variety of environments have been created to facilitate interactions. Aldo van eyck’s sonsbeek
pavilion
was
taken
as
the
inspiration. The whole idea was the way walls bent forming semicircular spaces and the sudden cuts transform this simple pattern in different spatial experience.

The concept of Puzzle was evolved from the term ‘connection’. Three different sizes of the modules were used for variation in spaces. In the second step, walls were lifted up. The floors were lifted up in the third process and the final diagram was a mixture of the previous two which comprises of walls and floors. Further, permutations and combinations of modules were worked on to simplify the design.

WORKING DRAWING
OVERVIEW WORKING DRAWING OF A KITCHEN Semester: 6 Guided by: Ms. Hetal Shah.
Details play a crucial role in any design or a building in architecture. Minute details can break the monotony and make the design or a space interesting. This exercise focused on details of the on-site made kitchen, starting from the construction, carcase, channels to the finishes and handles. The details of construction were elaborately studied as per the requirements including learning of different materials for the kitchen top, diverse range of available channels and baskets, different types of handles and various finishes used on the shutters. Material aspect was explored thouroughly.

FREELANCE PROJECTS
OVERVIEW PROJECT 1: CLINIC DESIGN: The idea was to turn the spaces which were according to a residence into the spaces they required for the clinic. The idea was to create spaces and colour combinations that would enlighten their mood.
Hence, the public
spaces are going with tones of brown which create a warm and lively atmosphere. While the private spaces of the doctors are going with cooler tones of grey. PROJECT 2: RESIDENCE DESIGN In order to bring a sense of belonging and continuity in the house, few patterns were repeated, sometimes used on the wall, at times as a partition and other times on the ceiling. PROJECT 3: EXHIBIT DESIGN The exhibit space design was made for SEDA, Navrachana University under the guidance of Prof. Gurdev Singh. The idea of making this exhibit was to create a permanent space that would display students works all round the year.
FREELANCE PROJECTS
1) CLINIC DESIGN The initial space planning according to a residence hence the layout had to be modified as per the requirements of the clinic. Major changes in the space was executed since the initial area had 4 rooms, open terrace and 4 washrooms. The public spaces i.e the waiting area, consultation rooms have been given tones of brown which is sometimes on the furniture, partitions and on the ceiling at times which create a sense of warm and a comforting atmosphere for the patients while the private spaces i.e doctors reading area and pantry is going with contrasting colour scheme of greys and whites. Furniture is self-designed. CLIENTS: Dr. Atul Jani (Physician)

OVERVIEW 1) KENNY CHAIR (Semester: 6) The idea of replicating and making our own version of Kenny chair was to understand the structure, human proportion and how the chair takes up the human
posture
depending on the position of the person and understanding the anthropology. 2) ALPHA CHAIR (Semester: 2) The design of the chair was made from the glulam or glued laminate timber process. “Glulam is a stress-rated engineered wood laminations, or “lams”, that are bonded together with durable, moisture-resistant adhesives.” It is known to have great strength. 3) STOOL DESIGN (Semester: 3) Triangle is the most stable shape hence Intersection of triangles as a shape to design a stool was the query of this project.

CONCEPT Triangle is known to be to be the most stable and strongest shape since any added force is evenly spread through all three sides. Hence, the idea of triangle was taken from this concept. Taking it further, the idea was to intersect triangles to try out the stability and balance of the stool. MATERIAL: STRUCTURE- STEEL, SEAT- REXINE AND FOAM

CONCEPT
Kenny is a new roundy curvy armchair made out of folded simple strip by Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay of Raw Edges for Moroso. “Turning flat material into three-dimensional volumetric shapes can be done in many ways, from patternmaking in fashion to complex origami folding,” explained designers Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay. “This project is all about the effortlessness of its geometry.”In this project the designers wanted to achieve a graceful rounded three-dimensional surface using the most simple pattern – a singular linear strip MATERIAL: WOOD PRODUCED BY AN AUTODESK EDUCATIONAL PRODUCT

MISCELLANEOUS WORKS
OVERVIEW In the first topic Abstraction, the subject (butterfly) is selected which is studied thoroughly looking at the different aspects which are involved for example its body, movement from one flower to another. The study is done to analyse the subject and choose one way it could be abstracted. Several models were made and studied which further inquire into the subject matter and understanding. Various materials are also used understand how the expression changes in representing a particular issue. At the end, the structure is taken into consideration
along
with
construction
details. The musical instrument exercise begins with understanding the musical instrument, analysing its details including its form and continues with making of drawings. The sound and the manner in which the instrument is played was also thoroughly studied. The end part included abstracting through sketches and finally making series of models it.

A knife is a tool with a cutting edge, hand-held or otherwise with most having a handle. This exercise focuses on the evolution, the complexity and diversity of retail design. The aim of this designing a retail space was to examine the process and strategies of a retail space. In today’s time, progressive retailers now use their spaces to communicate the brand values, entice customers and change buying behaviours, build relationships with customers.
