Darsheet Vora : A 4th-year architecture student applying for an internship. My intent for design is about user comfort and user engagement. To go beyond the mundane conventional and to come close to the minute detail, is what always thrives me. While working with a team, I feel driven to give my best for the accurate completion of work. I take pleasure in volunteering for the task I am confident about. I am eager to move towards the practical and professional learning experience about architecture and allied fields. /

The aim for site planning of this design was to assure an engaging neighborhood with the rational response to the site constraints. The major highway abutting the site was towards the creek which link Mumbai to Navi Mumbai and the upcoming Navi Mumbai International airport. Hence the commercials and shops are placed at the node having exposure to the busy lane. High-rise apartments placed on south to give shade to the north. Proper connectivity is ensured by not using more area for roads only.

Plot area FSI

: 300 sqm : 1.1

Bungalow is purposefully designed in a angular form as an attempt to provide a different experience. Internal planning is done based on the proximity. Importance was given to the usability of the space. The user should be satisfied by just staying the home in situations like lockdown. This was the idea behind the design program.

rowhouse module”

Plot area FSI

: 150 sqm : 1.1

The constraint with rowhouse scheme is that there can’t be any opening from side ways for light and ventilation. Hence, incorporated a skylight for lighting up the living area, other large openings on front and back facade are enough. The rowhouses are planned in such a manner that they have a pocket between two rowhouses and it can used a place for chit-chat with the neighbors.

The design is based on the proxmities of several spaces. I started with defining the core first and then planning out the orientation of rooms and flats. The core is designed in such a way that all the ducts are aligned to avoid clutter. All the toilets and bathooms are opening to a toilet shaft, which makes it easier for lining pipes, supply and drainage services.

Aim: To learn and apply ‘design’ as a tool to enhance educational spaces in an urban context to create an effective and unique architectural dialogue that transfers knowledge beyond four walls of a classroom and within an urban quad. The intent behind VIdyaGruh was to respond to all the major site constraints (noise and privacy) as a form and to provide a holistic learning environment that doesn’t promote rote learning. Activity-based flexible learning space is a key feature. Engagement pockets are provided to maximize the use of non-program areas as a place for conversation and trigger the intellect. The seating arrangement between the open court and semiopen multipurpose space has dual usability. The school has ample open spaces for gatherings and events.

TIMELINE PESHWA

INTRODUCTION Architecture in its raw glory has endured the test of time. The only man-made element that has our relics. In either case, in its solid form, leaving humankind to learn, observe. The cycle of plant and animal life eventually fades in the background, but not with the legacy which is engraved in cities, towns, and streets, buildings, homes along with the sweet scent of culture. It enables humans to understand the shifts in paradigms. Oddly, time waits for none. It has seen the humankind creating, destroying, struggling and surviving. Every inch of land onearth, architecture is evolving and people adapt. It became fasination for many rulers, but lead to war to establish political boundaries.

BAJIRAO

HISTORY Maharashtra is bound to loom large in any history of Indian architecture ranging from rock-cut sanctuaries, Buddhist chaityas, viharas, Jain cave temples to Islamic and colonial influences, it experiences a broad vocabulary of architecture, predominantly due to the various leaders that ruled its realm. It was much focused on deliberating to develop domestic architecture in the regional form of courtyard houses. Western Indian region has always been an area of our subjected to constant pressure during all historical periods. Best buildings emerged in that time, enriched with diversity and varieties, which evolved over the decades. The architecture was resilient.

Peshwa Bajirao was appointed by Shahu Maharaj. Bajirao moved the administration of the Maratha Empire to Pune and gave it a fortified base, “The Shaniwar Wada” palace of the Peshwas.

PESHWA

By means of architecture or people, the past is percolating in the present. The Vishrambaugh Wada at Pune underwent series of alterations with time. Be its extensions in physical form that displays the architecture of various periods of functionality from being a private residence to an educational institute to a museum cum post office today, it demonstrated the most exquisite form of progressive architecture.

Madhavrao contributed tremendously to the Maratha Empire, in spite of opposition. He established the Sadashiv Peth which later became the affluent part of the Pune city giving rise to its unique sub-culture.

PESHWA

BAJIRAO II Peshwa Nanasaheb came up with an intricate water system “The Katraj Shaniwar Wada Pipeline” through which water was supplied to over 100000 residents by only using the natural gradient.

After Mughal’s decline in the 1800s, Marathas took over and swore to keep Indian traditions and cultures intact . In the later half of the century, they secured political stability and wealth under reign of Peshwas. Townships developed and defined house forms called Wadas that stemmed across these settlements. Residential structures were the highly nuanced product of context. Architecture and ornamentation of buildings, materials, and techniques documented social and cultural life. One such example of historical, and diverse architectural influence, is ‘THE VISHRAMBAUG WADA’, Pune. Built as a residential quarter for Bajirao Peshwa in 1811, the structure became an integral part of the rich cultural legacy of the city. 4

Bajirao II built lavish palaces from himself like Vishrambaug Wada & Datar Wada. His rule was largely criticised forcing him to seek help from the English which paved way for their rule in the country.
