Land Bridge Landmark

LAND BRIDGE LANDMARK - By David Mote

A new ‘bridge’ in Swanscombe’s Craylands Gorge has reopened a footpath that once again joins Greenhithe and Swanscombe. This long-awaited link followed the demolition of the old, condemned ‘caged in’ bridges a number of years ago. Used by generations of residents, and especially parents from Greenhithe taking their children to the Craylands school, this traffic free footpath has been greatly missed. Constructed by Ebbsfleet based Henley Camland, the new land bridge connects Swanscombe Heritage Park to Knockhall Park and is already seeing a large number of pedestrians using the route. But it is more than simply a footpath as it will eventually allow access down into the important Craylands Gorge ecological corridor and link the local communities. Visiting the land bridge on the day it opened Greenhithe and Knockhall Borough Councillor, David Mote said: “It is very pleasing to see the path reopened and so many people using it already. There are still minor access challenges to pin down but but this is a very important landmark for the Greenhithe, Swanscombe and Ebbsfleet as it marks the only point where all three communities meet.”
