GIRLGUIDING
Girlguiding Dartford West and Rowhill District has not let the COVID-19 pandemic hold them back. During this time many of our units have continued to offer Girlguiding opportunities and a chance for the girls to have a little bit of normality in a far from normal world.
Our volunteers have quickly learnt new skills and adapted the Girlguiding programme to suit the needs of our members during the pandemic. They have held virtual meetings on Zoom and sent out physical and virtual programme activity packs for the girls to enjoy at home. Some units were able to meet outside during the summer and a few units returned to indoor meetings when permitted to do so. We have continued to support the physical and emotional needs of our young members by supporting badge work and developing challenges during this difficult time and our girls and volunteers have shown great determination and flexibility when organising and completing activities.
Given the current lockdown and social distancing requirements our units will continue to run virtual sessions until face-to-face meetings are permitted and although our units are not meeting ‘normally’ yet, we want to allow more girls (Rainbows aged 5–7, Brownies aged 7–10, Guides aged 10-4 and Rangers aged 14-18) to experience all the fun and friendship that our active units offer.
To do this we need more volunteers - we already have a wonderful team of volunteer leaders in Dartford West who do amazing things, but to enable us to continue running all our units and grow Girlguiding, we need more volunteers to join us. extremely rewarding, it is about empowering girls and giving them new experiences, it is about being a role model and helping girls and young women to grow in confidence and discover their full potential. But more than that, those who volunteer for Girlguiding benefit from new friendships, learn valuable transferrable new skills and enjoy time laughing and having fun with some incredible girls and young women.
