In this month’s article we look at a new models with electric at the heart of their offerings, all available from 2022.

2022 Mercedes EQE electric car – this is the luxurious new Mercedes EQE electric saloon promises a range of more than 400 miles and cutting-edge technology. This is a smaller version of the full electric saloon car from Mercedes with a coupe style roofline and a smooth panel where the front grille would usually be, to help maximise aerodynamic efficiency. At launch two versions will be available: the 288bhp 350 and another more powerful yet to be announced. The mileage range will enable you to drive more than 400 miles based on the version you choose. Charging for 15 minutes will enable you to add a 155 miles range. Available in the middle of 2022 it is estimated to cost around £60,000. 2022 Ford Fiesta – this is the Ford Fiesta small car which gets design tweaks, new mild-hybrid engines and a revised interior. The changes are timely to keep its model at the top of the small hatchback market. Changes include more aggressive front and rear bumpers than before and a wider and deeper front grille, plus the new car comes with LED headlights as standard. Engine choices start from a 1.0-litre petrol with either 123bhp or 153bhp and all engines are mild hybrids with small amounts of electric assistance to reduce fuel bills. No diesel engines will be available. Inside, you’ll find a new 12.3in digital instrument cluster which can put a wealth of information – including navigation instructions – right in front of your eyes. Available early 2022 prices will start from £18,680. 2022 Kia Sportage SUV – this is the new Kia Sportage SUV features a high-tech interior, futuristic looks, and is available with plug-in hybrid power for the first time. The looks are more of a dramatic change to the current with a longer and wider body and new century styling throughout. The size means it will be a cross between the family and larger SUV classes. Other styling features includes new LED daytime running lights and headlights that shift their patterns to avoid dazzling oncoming drivers. Inside, you’ll find a 12.3in digital instrument cluster which can be configured to put a variety of information in front of you, plus a separate 12.3in infotainment system. At launch the engine will be the plug-in hybrid version, with a 1.6-litre petrol engine, plus an electric motor with a 13.8kWh battery pack. They will produce a combined 261bhp. Available in Spring 2022 prices are expected to start from around £25,000.
