The Essence Of Innovation Defined By Versace Gianni Versace or as we call it Versace, founded in the year 1978, is a globally renowned Italian luxury label which owes its existence to the designer Gianni Versace and thus the name of the company was kept after his name. Founded 38 years ago, it has evolved so much and it was all because of Gianni’s efforts that this small business became a house of fashion now serving worldwide. His interest in fashion could have been inherited from his mother who had a dress making business and he worked over there as an apprentice before thinking of starting his own business. This helped him gained expertise in this area with also freelancing for big names in the industry in Milan at that time. His talent and hard work led him up the ladder of success and there was no looking back for him. He was of the opinion that fashion should not be predictable, he challenged the prevalent norms and wanted to bring in a change in the industry with his new and innovative designs. The logo of the brand depicts this characteristic quite well. The logo is the head of a Greek mythological goddess Medusa who made people fall in love with her and thus he expected the same love from people coming to his company. His innovative approach and new techniques like “neo-couture” which fuses leather & rubber lead to his reign and fame. He started this business with the help of his brother Santo and it has been run ever since by his family members only. After the tragic demise of Gianni, his sister Donatella Versace took over the company and is currently the artistic director. She took her brother’s legacy to another height. The brand has always been associated flashy & bright patterns and it gained so much popularity that it was associated with royals like late princess Diana and elite groups of that time and even in today’s time, celebrities like Madonna, Tina Turner, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Beyonce and rich people flaunt products by this brand. The first flagship store was opened in Milan in the year 1978 and its first women collection was launched in 1989. With the year 1993, two sub labels were introduced namely young Versace & Versus by Donatella. Today it deals in haute couture, ready to wear, accessories, jewelry and home décor. Women clothing includes; dresses, tops, skirts, blouses, t-shirts, pants & jeans and jackets & coats. While men clothing category offers; jackets, suits, shirts, t-shirts, polos, jeans & pants. Even the handbags by the brand are worthy of admiration. Because of the company’s focus to try bringing in fresh and out of the box concepts, the collection by Versace is exceptional. It has the understanding of human body, its curves and that is why it always hits
the right cord when making a new collection. The iconic designs and shapes have inspired so many people and even other labels as it never disappoints with what is expected from such a big label. The items polish the overall look making it worthy of talking about. Recently it collaborated with Lamborghini for a limited edition car with only 2 of such made and priced for $1 million. The understanding of customers and change that market needed helped Versace to become what it is today.
