That’s a Nice Result You’ll Have on Your Face Smiles are great. Who doesn’t like to smile? We all do—it’s what makes us smile that differs. Puppies and babies are some obvious triggers. But for us involved in the business of business, results are what make 12 muscles in our head rearrange our face into a state of bliss. Which is why we’ve arranged this brochure for you. It starts the conversation about all the ways Darwill excels at making things, and making things happen. Whether it’s print, online or a combination of both, we aim to get your lips moving north by getting results to move your way.

Communications That Connect We do many things at Darwill. In fact we feel we’re rather well-rounded when it comes to communicating. But there are four things we do particularly well and have, in some cases, been doing for more than 60 years. We help our customers connect with their audiences and achieve their goals through: • • • •
Direct marketing Personalized communications POD storefronts Print
Whether we’re delivering complete, complex programs or more straightforward services, with Darwill you always get ahead with the things that you get from us.
Darlene + William = Darwill In 1951 William Van Dyke Sr. founded Darwill (named for a combination of his son’s and daughter’s names) in Chicago primarily to imprint signs for Florsheim Shoes retail stores. Since those early days, we’ve become a national leader in both print and online communications. Despite the up and down challenges of the printing industry, Darwill continues to blaze trails in print and direct marketing. We have developed new products that leverage technology and the Internet, streamlined our manufacturing processes to offer the lowest costs, and increased our resources to ensure high-quality customer service.

SERVICES
Experience That Matters to You One thing we’ve learned over the years is how differently different companies and organizations need to communicate to their unique markets. Experience has taught us that while we can leverage our capabilities across many different organizations to the benefit of all, no single company or organization benefits from a cookie-cutter approach. With that in mind, we’ve laid out the key services and experience we offer that we can pull from to help you meet your specific goals:
Personalized Communications Personalized communications are those communications, both online and printed, that are shaped to speak directly to an individual in your audience. We take cold, impersonal data and transform it into personal, effective communications that speak to people, that connect and convert. We can use our experience and capabilities to: •
Research and develop measurable direct communication campaign strategies, including direct mail, email, and PURLs
•
Design and execute a data strategy
•
Execute printed and online materials
•
Analyze the results of your campaign to direct future initiatives
Print We started life as a printer, and it continues to be a leading focus of Darwill. And, we’re still a leader in print innovation. Here are just some of the print services we leverage to bring beauty, and beautiful results, to your projects: •
Prepress and color services
•
Sheetfed printing
•
UV sheetfed for plastics and cards
•
4-color + b&w digital
Print-on-Demand (POD) Print-on-Demand is a mighty powerful thing when employed properly. You gain the ability to deliver high-quality customized materials, control your brand, and enable centralized, web-based ordering. POD is perfect for an organization that has stakeholders who require branded materials AND are scattered around the country—such as agents, distributors, dealers, etc. Depending on your needs, Forsite™, our POD system, provides these three options: •
Off-the-shelf, web-based ordering
•
Customized Print-on-Demand
•
Customized direct marketing

Data
The up-front thinking and development we can do together is the first step to success. Here are just some of the ways we work with you to deliver strategic campaigns that connect with the people you need to reach:
The divine is in the details—with our thorough approach to the data you have or need, you’ll be in top form to perform. Here’s what we can do for you:
Together we explore your goals and develop a corresponding communication strategy that keeps everyone on the same page, lowers costs and maintains your brand. We leverage our cross-media experience and technology offerings to facilitate ways your audience can connect back to you. Working with your creative team early on, we ensure your tactics take full advantage of the many benefits variable data provides as well as optimize your materials for production. To show how smart you are, we design a measurement plan (including tools and targets).
Acquisition: Need to add leads to the database you already have? No problem—we’ve got the names and more. Hygiene: More likely than not, your data could use some organization and a good scrubbing. We’re all at our best when we look our best. Enhancement: If your data is incomplete and missing key records/information, we can work with you to fill in the blanks.
What’s the response rate? How much did we spend per order? How many pieces dropped? Who knows? You will, due to our measurement techniques—including:
Personalized URLs (PURLs): Creating a personalized place on the web that’s integrated into your campaigns raises their effectiveness. We’d love to show you how.
Response Management: Hey, great! People are calling and clicking. But then what? We can help you manage your campaign responses, often in real time, using a mix of tracking and analysis techniques.

Print: We offer a complete suite of traditional and digital print services, all to deliver exceptionally produced pieces.
Analytics: We can help you analyze the data you collect during the course of a campaign, glean actionable insights and make the course corrections you need to keep your goals on track and the naysayers off your back.

“Because of the production time savings, if we were to add on a new publication or supplement, or expand a magazine, it wouldn’t be a big burden on our staff because the BreezeWaysm system is in place. PREPRESS WORKFLOW
There’s a Better Way for Prepress, Proofing and Printing. There’s BreezeWay.SM The prepress process—it’s that time between the joy of creation and a finished product. And, usually, it’s a time with precious little joy. Keep everyone happy with BreezeWay—a suite of four easy-to-use prepress tools from Darwill.
ImageQuest Our digital asset management system gives you a visual database of graphics and document elements. Browse, search, drag, re-format and share—ImageQuest makes it all possible. And, to help your creative team be more efficient, ImageQuest allows designers to work with faster-loading, lo-res images during layout that are then automatically replaced with hi-res images when a press-ready PDF is uploaded to InSite.
Prepare Your production artists can create error-free, press-ready PDFs from InDesign® or Quark® using Kodak Prepare. It’s the best way to ensure uploaded files are ready to print.
InSite This is our online job submission and collaborative proofing tool from Kodak. It’s the place everyone can go to review, make comments to, and approve work, no matter where they may be.
Matchprint Virtual Software Put color conundrums behind you and your team. Our monitor proofing solutions from Kodak assure color-accurate monitor proofing and reduce hard copy, color proof headaches. For those that need to touch, see and feel a paper proof, Darwill offers inkjet color proofs, contract color “dot” proofs, MVP proofs, and digital dylux for assembly.

ENVIRONMENTAL
“Doing the Right Thing” Darwill Style: Employing Sustainable Paper Sourcing Practices We only use paper suppliers who live up to our environmental standards and we are huge advocates of using environmentally friendly papers. Darwill’s print operations have earned the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody Certification. This certification verifies that Darwill is authorized to offer you the choice to print on paper that originates in responsibly managed forests according to the social, economic and environmental standards defined by the FSC. In addition to FSC certification, Darwill is also certified by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative® (SFI). The SFI program integrates the perpetual growing and harvesting of trees with the protection of wildlife, plants, soils, and air and water quality.
Recycling We ensure that all the material waste shed during the printing process is properly recycled. This includes: solvents, inks, plates and paper. In fact we have invested over $100,000 in a solvent recovery system that allows us to reuse 90% of our solvent waste.
Promoting Sustainable Practices Darwill is committed to following sustainable practices to preserve and protect our environment both now and in the long-term. For example, we partner with Sappi for our house sheets, including a 30% post-consumer waste (PCW), FSC mixedsourced coated sheet of paper. In addition, 100% of the electricity used to manufacture their 30% PCW paper is Green-e certified renewable energy.
Addressing Emissions, Hazardous Waste and Air Quality We employ pollution prevention and waste minimization techniques to help reduce environmental risk, including: •
Solvent Recovery
•
Computer to Plate (CTP) Workflow
•
Elimination of Alcohol Dampening Systems
•
Vegetable-based Inks
•
Water-based Coatings
