Why Water is Leaking from Your Car Exhaust ?

The internal combustion engine emits exhaust gases during combustion.

The piping allows the exhaust gases to flow out from the engine.

Sometimes you will notice water coming out of the tailpipe.

Here are the factors that cause water to come out from the exhaust.

Engine water condensation

Various pollutants are formed when combustion process takes place in your engine.

Water vapor, carbon dioxide & nitrogen are the three main pollutants.

When the engine cools down, the water condensation in the exhaust becomes visible.

The tailpipe will have small drips of water coming out of it.

Heated engine

The engine generates most heat when you first start the car.

The oil in the engine needs time to flow & lubricate the components to cool them down.

While the engine is hot, the exhaust system will be hot as well.

This will create water vapor in the exhaust & you will see water droplets come out of tailpipe.

Catalytic converter

The catalytic converter is an important part of the emission control system.

The component lowers the amount of toxic gases coming out from the exhaust.

During the conversion process, traces of water vapor are produced.

This will result in water droplets falling out of the tailpipe.

There is nothing to worry about if you see water droplets coming out from your exhaust.

If this is accompanied by other systems failing, then take your car to a repair shop for inspection.
