1.1 PAVILION | HYPER-FLUIDICS FLUIDIC VERTEXING MORPHOLOGY | RETRIEVABILITY OF SURF INDUSTRY | 2020 TOKYO OLYMPIC Design Studio: Surf Pavilion Tutor: Igor Kebel, Eriko Watanabe Type: Group Academic Project Location: Ichinomiya, Japan Duration: Feb. - Jul. 2018 Grade: 90 / 100 High Distinction

| DESIGN MANIFESTO |

Since the concept of “Flow Space” being introduced in Architecture through Barcelona Pavilion by Mies van der Rohe in 1929, the pursuit of fluidity, continuity and dynamics towards spatial experience dramatically changed the definition of architectural configuration in the last 100 years. However, the term of “flow” or “fluidics” literally comes from natural phenomenon. And surfing is the only and most remarkable sport that integrates human with natural phenomenon to create an extraordinary dynamic spatial experience. Surfing represents our ancestor’s wisdom of observing nature and interacting with nature.

In our “Pavilion Hyper Fluidics” project, we doubt about the design process of architecture whether could be an emerging process directly comes from the observing and abstracting of nature phenomenon. We challenge the architectural spatial experience whether could be hyper-fluid and hyper-free just as a surfer surfing in white squall. In terms of form finding process, the project is inspired by two images. The first image is a drawing by Mr Charles Victor, a French adventurer and writer in 1855. And this image is the first image to describe the early emergence of surfing. As explained before, we believe the spirit of surfing is mainly on how human observe, conquer or interact with nat-

ural phenomenon. Similarly, the second drawing by Leonardo da Vinci also tries to translate the natural liquid flowing and turbulence phenomenon into artistic Creation. The materialization concept of the project also directly comes from the research on surf industry. As known, 90% percent of the surfboards are made of foam, but most of them would be recycled after use and would cause serious pollution to the coastal eco-environment. The idea of the project is to recycle the foam from surfboard worldwide and re-use them as high-performance material for the construction of the new pavilion.

1.2 SWARMING HISTORY Design Studio: Fabricating History Tutor: Ben Milbourne Type: Individual Academic Project Location: Medini, Malaysia Duration: Sep. - Nov. 2017 (Half Semester) Grade: 83/100 - High Distiction

|CONCEPT|

Beginning with the concept, the whole thinking behind the project comes from the 2014 Venice Biennale. With a delicate dome and a typical modern ceiling under it, the contradiction of historical and contemporary is presented in quite an unexpected way. When looking back to the developing process of architectural history, from Ancient Greek, Gothic, Baroque... to Modernism, Post-Modernism, Deconstructivism and digital design tendency, the new-born architectural style always willing to fully replace the previous, which leads to a quite intermittent developing process. However, what if the developing is an overlapping process instead of fully replacement?

1.3 FLOATING URBAN BIO-MASS: Superior "Secondary Eco-System" Tutor: Chie Fuyuki Type: Group Academic Project Location: Beijing, China

Duration: Aug. 2016 (5 days Intensive) Collabration: Fengjiao Ge, Lin Zhang Contribution: Team Leader

Developing process of urban is never a process which we only look forward. Sometimes, we need to look back. The concept of this project is to discuss the siginificance of wild ecosystem to the problems of modern cities. Our city will definitily not transform into wildness, but the method is important. And we need to integrate the superiority of wildness to make our city better.
