Eat, Drink & be scary - Blackwood Street Halloween Party

Eat, drink & be scary - community spirit comes alive!
In October we saw thousands turn out for the annual Blackwood Street Halloween Festival – run by the Rotary Club of Mitchelton, the festival has grown immensely in recent years and features live music, market stalls, a street parade, and prizes for the best costume.
There is nothing more quintessentially Australian than good old-fashioned community spirit.
It’s something that we’ve got in spades, here in Brisbane, and it’s one of the things I love about living in our river city. Despite the ultra-fast-paced, slick, every-man-for-himself culture found in so many other cities, Brisbane has always remained true to its ethos: our vibe is laid back, friendly, and community focused. Brisbanites crave that peaceful village atmosphere – it’s a trend that has remained constant for many years and has catapulted a handful of quiet, leafy enclaves into rock-star status – permanently sought after and always in demand, no matter what is happening around them.
Mitchelton is one of these shining stars: A hidden gem on the north side of the city, not only does it tick all the usual boxes (location, amenities, transport); it also has the community spirit of a small country town – the welcome is always warm, and there are a myriad of ways to get involved. It’s a prime example of what makes this area so special: friends, neighbours, businesses and organisations connecting, all in the name of fun – no wonder Mitchelton is such a wonderful place to live!
