About Bangalore Rural district Historically, the district of Bangalore Rural was established in 1986, when Bangalore district was divided into Bangalore Rural and Bangalore (Urban). It is named after Bangalore which is its head quarters. It is the second least populous district in Karnataka. Most of the population of this district lives in the rural areas. Geographically, the district has a total 2,298 sq. km . area and occupies the ranks 29 th in State and 466 th in India on the bases of this size. It lies at 13°20' N latitude, 77°70' E longitude and 875m altitude. In the year 2015 , the district had a total 14.08% forest area of total geographical area. It is bounded by Tumkur and Kolar districts on the North, districts of Mandya, Mysore and Tamil Nadu State on the South , Kolar district and Tamil Nadu state on the East and districts of Tumkur and Mandya on the West. The Arkavati, the Kanva and the Dakshina pinakini rivers pass through the district. The actual rainfall in the district was 1079.0 mm in the year of 2015-16. Administrative wise, the district is divided into 4 sub-districts namely Kanakapura, Ramanagaram, Magadi and Channapatna. Moreover, it has 7 towns and 957 villages. Kannada is its official language. The district of Banglore Rural came into existence on the 15 th August, 1986 in the state of Karnataka with its administrative headquarters located at Bangalore. There are 1 parliamentary and 4 assembly constituencies in the district. Demographically, according to the 2011 census, the district has a total number of 2,24,745 households with a total of 9,90,923 comprising 5,09,172 are males and 4,81,751 are females. The population growth rate during the period 2001 to 2011 was 47.33% including -47.08% were males and -47.6% were females. The density of population of the district is 431 (persons per sq . km ). The sex ratio is pegged at 946 (females per 1000 males ) while the child ratio stands at 950 (females per 1000 males). The schedule caste population of the district is recorded as 2,13,700 comprising 1,07,424 are males and 1,06,276 are females. The percentage of Schedule Caste is 2.04 %. The schedule tribe population is 52,903 comprising 27,147 are males and 25,756 are females. The percentage of Schedule Tribe is 1.25% . The percentage of the religions practiced by the people of this region is Hindu at 89.86% and Muslim at 9.31%. According to the 2001 census, the percentage of the principal languages of the region is Kannada 77.19%, Urdu 9.11 % and Telugu 8.96%. Economically, agriculture is the major occupation of the people of the district. Weaving is also a main souse of income for the people here. The main crops of the district are rice, groundnut, sugarcane, castor, grapes, mulberry, etc. A number of infrastructural facilities such as transport and communications, banking, credit, and marketing are available here. Bricks, tiles, and stoneware are manufactured by the non-metallic mineral resources of the district. The soil and climatic conditions of the district support for the cultivation of mulberry, rearing of silkworms, and production of silk. The GDDP or Gross District Domestic Product during the period 2013-14 was Rs 12,96,833 Lakh at current price and Rs . 11,24,49 0 Lakh at Constant (2011-12) Prices. The NDDP, or Net District Domestic Product during the period 2013-14 was Rs . 11,70,013 Lakh at Current Price and Rs . 10,11,512 Lakh at Constant (2011-12) Prices.

Education wise, the literacy rate in the district is 77.93% including 84.82% are males and 70.63% are females. The total literate population of the district is 6,88,749 including 3,85,311 are males and 3,03,438 are females. The district has a number of primary, secondary and higher secondary schools as well as graduation schools. Citizens High School and Vivekananda High School are two main schools here. Citizens High School was established in 1989. It was founded by Ghouse Khan Mecca. It is a secondary school in Hoskote. Many alumni of this school have done very well in national and state level sports. Vivekananda High School is a secondary school in Sulebele Bangalore Rural District. The district has several International schools in Bangalore such as Bangalore International School , Canadian International School, Candor International School, Ebenezer International School and Gitanjali International School , etc. Music institutes are also available here for instance Indiranagar Sangeetha Sabha, Eastern Fare Music Foundation and Karnataka College of Percussion etc. The names of some other schools are Aarohi Life Education, Acharya Pathasala Public School, Goodwill's Girls School, Bangalore and St. Joseph's Boys' High School, Bangalore etc. A.P.S. College of Engineering and Government Film and Television Institute are also established in Bangalore which is its Headquarter. C. Narayanaswamy, a renowned member of the Indian National Congress (INC) who served as the Chairman of Karnataka Food & Civil Supplies Corporation in 1985 and Working President of the Karnataka Panchayati Parishad in 2011 was born in the year 1948 at Bangalore . He also served as the President of Bangalore Rural Zilla Parishad (1987-92). In 2015, there were total 6,89,435 domestic tourists who visited here to enjoy the historical and religious monuments of the district. The famous places of the region are Devanahalli Fort, Savana Durga, Channapatna Hamlet, Janapada Loka, Kaveri Fishing Camp, Manchina Bele ( Magadi), Mekedaatu and Shivaganga. M.V. Rajamma, a n eminent actress, producer and playback singer of South Indian languages films was born on 10th March, 1921 in the district. She also produced a film in 1943 named Radha Ramana.
