AS Olajumoke O E 51
It wasn’t until ancient people began taking note of the moon’s cycles that they began paying attention to the change in seasons as well. They also noticed this pattern repeated itself over and over again. They began marking these changes in time.
Early civilizations had no way to keep track of time other than by using the moon, sun, or some other important event. This made it difficult for them to pay attention to the anniversary of a person’s birth.
As time went on, everyone realized that they all experienced the effects of aging, they just didn’t have a means to mark a special milestone for it.

It all started with the Egyptians
This is what bore the first calendars, which marked time changes and other special days. From this type of tracking system came the ability to celebrate birthdays and other significant events and anniversaries each year.
The earliest mention of a birthday was around 3,000 B.C.E. and was in reference to a Pharaoh’s birthday. But further study implies that this was not their birth into the world, but their “birth” as a god.
Birthdays didn’t begin until calendars were created
In addition to candles, friends and family would gather around the birthday person and protect them from harm with good cheers, thoughts, and wishes. They would give gifts to bring even more good cheer that would ward off evil spirits. Noisemakers were also used to scare away the unwanted evil.

You can thank Greeks for all those birthday candles.
When Egyptian pharaohs were crowned in ancient Egypt, they were considered to have transformed into gods. This was a moment in their lives that became more important than even their physical birth.
It is assumed that the Greeks adopted the Egyptian tradition of celebrating the “birth” of a god. They, like many other pagan cultures, thought that days of major change, such as these “birth” days, welcomed evil spirits. They lit candles in response to these spirits almost as if they represented a light in the darkness. This implies that birthday celebrations started as a form of protection.
Pagans, such as the ancient Greeks, believed that each person had a spirit that was present on the day of his or her birth. This spirit kept watch and had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday that particular individual was born.
German bakers invented the birthday cake as we know it today.
Birthdays provides one more opportunity to celebrate women
Culture has always been unfair to women, even in this digital age. For instance
The ancient Romans were the first to celebrate the birth of the common “man.”
Any Roman turning 50 years old would receive a special cake baked with wheat flour, olive oil, grated cheese, and honey. But an important thing to note is that only men would experience this birthday celebration. Female birthdays were not celebrated until about the 12th century.
This seems to be the first time in history where a civilization celebrated the birth of non religious figures. Regular Roman citizens would celebrate the birthdays of their friends and family members. The government, however, created public holidays in honor of more famous citizens.
It took almost 500years after birthdays became a cultural practice in early civilization for women to be recognized as worthy of celebration. Now in the modern age a lot of people argue why women are 'over celebrated'. But a deep introspection always gives up just too many reasons why women are the more well deserving of being celebrated.
Female birthdays were not celebrated until about the 12th century. "
Kinderfeste, which started in the late 18th century, was the name for a German birthday party that is closest to today’s style of parties. This party was held for German kids, or “kinder,” and featured a birthday cake adorned with candles.
At this point, birthdays had been celebrated around the world, even in China, where a child’s first birthday was more special than most.
Kids were given one candle atop the cake for each year they had been alive, plus one for the hope of living for at least one more year. Blowing out these candles while making a wish was a big part of these celebrations.
Mrs Owoyeye is one women that represents a bridge between Africa's great culture of values and the modern pop culture. Her influence is a major force that connects the modern day women with the great traditions of respect, hardwork, compassion and dignity.
We do not have to wait for days like Mother's Day, Women's Day or Valentine's Day to celebrate women. They are deserving of celebration every other day. But any special day that presents a euphoria for their honour, it must be seized to let them know they are loved, valued and appreciated.
when it comes to raising children more is expected of women. Nigerian women are raised to be nurturers; they must always have it at the back of their minds that they would have children and nurture them. This idea drives women from pursuing careers that keep them from performing this role. Women are nurturing and strong. They care deeply about others. They are also big burden bearers.
Therefore, on this occasion of the birthday of Mrs Olajumoke Owoyeye, Virtuous Magazine join people from around the world and all walks of life to honour this amazon.

According to her, one of the cornerstones metric of being a successful African parents is to see your children, deeply woven into the western community, yet greeting in their dialect with the appropriate cultural gesticulations.

For one, she travels around the world wearing African prints. She emphasizes the need to put forward African names instead of the common English and Hebrew names, which is often a blackman's attempt to mask their identity.
Despite her education and global exposure she is still showcases the beauty of Africa's diversity in style,
Another distinct character of Olajumoke is her people skill and love for community. Like earlier described, she is a bridge builder. She is fond of associating with all, regardless of social status, race and creed.
Mrs Owoyeye values respect so much, she not only demands it from the younger generation, she duly accords it to both young and old.

She is fondly called Mama, not just an allusion to the fact that she is blessed with her own children, but because is bears those of others in her arms. Mrs Owoyeye is highly passionate about the progress of the younger generation. She spends a considerable amount of her time counseling and supporting the dreams of a lot of them.

Maria’s mother, Consuela, stands between Maria and her children and says, “Don’t listen to your Mama. She’s just being mean and doesn’t know the first thing about being a mama. You listen to your Nana Maria. C’mon my little angels. Stop fighting and let’s go get some ice cream.” Now the power struggle switches from the kids to the two adults, and a heated argument ensues. Who do you suppose will win?

Nine year old Daniella and her six year old brother, Jesse, are involved in an intense power struggle over who gets to sit in the front seat of the car for a trip to the grocery store. Their mother, Maria, tells them to “Shut up!” and threatens to send them to bed without dinner as soon as they get home.

When Mothers& Grandmothers ParentTogether

In reality, nobody wins. According to a recent study conducted by Barnett, et.al., everyone loses in this scenario because conflict between coparenting mothers and grandmothers negatively impacts their own relationship and may also contribute to problem behaviors and a decrease in the development of healthy social skills in the children under their care.
With this in mind, it is important for a grandmother to enter the child care arena with a mood and demeanor that is likely to make her grandkids feel loved, accepted, and safe. Therefore, she would be wise to release any negative emotions or current anxieties prior to engaging with her grandchildren.
Mom and Grandma — Working Together Mothers and daughters often have an intense emotional relationship, typically tied to disagreements or problems they have experienced in the past. If they are truly committed to encouraging their children to grow and thrive, they should adopt a “that was then, and this is now” approach, making every effort to avoid letting those conflicts arise in their presence. This will go a long way toward providing a loving, nurturing environment in which children can develop the skills they need to be content and successful in life.
I find it helpful to “go to my closet” to verbally vent any feelings or emotions that might interfere with me presenting a pleasant demeanor to my own grandchildren. If I’m feeling stressed prior to spending time with my grandkids, I actually go and sit in my closet for a few minutes, talk with God about my frustrations, and pray that He will ease my anxiety or anger or whatever I may be feeling. I find that God is a very good listener! Having left any negative feelings in my closet, I am free to enjoy my time with my grandchildren.
A Word to Grandmothers
Most importantly, being in the care of loving and accepting women who demonstrate a harmonious relationship will expose the children to, and hopefully make them long for, the unconditional love that is available to them through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
According to the Pew Research Center, the number of people living in multigenerational family homes has doubled since 1980. Many of those homes include mothers who are coparenting their kids with their own mothers. While exposure to caregiver depression, aggression, and mother grandmother conflict may affect children negatively in these settings, an upbeat mood, calm demeanor, and cooperation between coparenting relatives are likely to encourage healthy development in children.
If mothers are young, inexperienced, and clueless about appropriate strategies for discipline, grandmothers can certainly serve as mentors to teach and encourage them. But they should also bear in mind that many things have changed since they were raising their own children. What worked for them as young mothers may not work for their daughters and their children.
When grandmothers have wisdom to share, they would be wise to offer it in the form of a suggestion rather than critical commentary. Instead of stating, “You shouldn’t do that,” put a positive spin on it by saying, “You might want to try this approach and see how that works.”
Suggest Don’t Criticize
4. Expose children to the unique qualities and skills of Mom and Grandma, and have each woman take leadership in areas of special gifts or talents. For example, if Mom is a great cook and Grandma loves to hike, set aside special time for engaging in those activities.
5 Action Steps for Grandmother/Mother Coparenting
5. Be intentional about celebrating good behavior, newly acquired skills, and examples of good character together. If Mom and Grandma take the time to recognize achievements of all kinds with hugs, verbal encouragement, and the occasional tangible reward, children will learn the value of obedience, hard work, and cooperation.
Once the stage is set for a stable coparenting relationship, the question of who’s in charge needs to be answered. Generally speaking, the children’s mother should be responsible for setting the rules of the household and establishing the rewards for following them and the consequences for breaking them. Grandmothers need to remember that it is likely that they will not be the primary caregivers for their grandchildren long term, so they would be wise to empower their daughters to be in charge and set them up for later success.
2. Regularly review how things are going with your coparenting, and agree to calmly discuss any disagreements when the children are not present.
1. Meet to discuss how to manage typical parenting issues, such as eating and feeding times, nap and bedtimes, safety, discipline, and conflict between kids.
3.Take every opportunity to express gratitude to each other for caring for the children and cooperating with one another.
