If you've ever played Diablo 2, then you know that the Gold in that game was really worthless. I remember the only real uses for Gold in D2 were to repair equipment, trading for gems (100,000 Gold per Perfect Gem) and for gambling. Other than that, Gold just built up in your character's stash as there was no other real use for it. The value of Gold will be MUCH greater in Diablo 3 and here are the reasons why. #1. Vendors: You will be able to buy gear and items from Vendors in D3. While this was possible in D2, you couldn't really buy any equipment that were upgrades for your character. However, in Diablo 3 Vendor items will actually scale to the level of your character, so if you forget to trade or buy a piece of upgraded gear you can purchase a piece of armor or a weapon from a Vendor. You will spend a good amount of gold, buying items from Vendors in Diablo 3. #2. RMAH: If you're not buying from Vendors, you will be buying from other players in The Real Money Auction House. Not only will you be able to buy equipment from the RMAH, but also Crafting Materials, Tomes, Potions, Characters, Runestones, etc. Gold will also be farmed and sold for actual money, constantly reducing the amount of Gold available in the game, thus making it more valuable and more difficult to obtain. The RMAH will really be a great feature that will allow the Diablo 3 economy to flourish. Gold Sinks: The following are a list of Gold Sinks added to Diablo 3. A Gold Sink is an economic process installed in games that removes game currency to increase the value of that currency. #3. Repairs: Players will spend a lot of money on repairing equipment in Diablo 3. While it may not be apparent in Normal or even Nightmare, the average player will have a very difficult time in Hell and Inferno. The Developers who played D3 said that they constantly wiped as a group in Inferno Difficulty. You will lose a % of your equipment's durability each time you die. Also the higher the level of your equipment the greater the repair costs will be. Continually dying can really rack up the gold repair costs. #4. Stash: The Stash in Diablo 3 will be a shared stash for your entire account. This means that you will be able to access all of your items/gear on any character on your account. While your shared stash might not have enough space when you first start out, you will be able to spend gold to upgrade your stash and gain more available space. I expect the cost of upgrading your stash will be increasingly more expensive with each upgrade that you buy (eg. 1st Upgrade 1,500 gold, 2nd Upgrade 3,000 Gold, 3rd Upgrade 6,000 Gold).
#5. Crafting: In my opinion the biggest Gold Sink of all will be Crafting. You will be spending Gold on Crafting Materials as well as spending Gold to have the Mystic, Jeweler or Blacksmith complete the Crafting process for you. Not only that, but it will also cost you a large amount of Gold to Level Up each one of these Artisans. Leveling up your Mystic, Jeweler or Blacksmith will allow you to craft more powerful items. You will have to choose which Artisan you would like to focus on initially, because upgrading two or even all three Artisans will cost you a significant amount of gold. The good news however, is once you level up an Artisan it will stay Leveled Up for your entire account. This means that if you Level Up your Blacksmith to Level 3, it will be at Level 3 no matter which character you decide to use, granted your characters are on the same Account. If you were looking forward to selling D3 Gold for Actual Money, then the good news is that Diablo 3 will actually have some value. On the other hand, if you were looking forward to buying D3 Gold to get a head start on your friends, the good news is that you will be able to buy Gold safely and securely through the Real Money Auction House. If you weren't thinking about buying or selling Gold in Diablo 3, you will have to make some decisions as to where you want to spend your Gold. Increased Stash Size, Better Gear, Better Runestones, Leveling Up Artisans the choice is up to you. Oh and just a final tip, try not to get killed a lot; repairs are costly. Thanks For Reading!
