12th ANNUAL ERIE GIVES SET FOR TUESDAY, AUGUST 9TH
As the second Tuesday in August quickly approaches, The Erie Community Foundation team is feverishly gearing up to host the 12th annual Erie Gives. The excitement is mounting with new incentives available for nonpro ts on Tuesday, August 9th!
When the Foundation rst introduced the communityspirited giving day, the prorated match pool was $75,000 in honor of the Foundation’s 75th anniversary in 2011. Today, in 2022, corporate sponsorship has increased tremendously to provide this year’s recordbreaking prorated match of $470,000! What that means is every donor’s gift will be enhanced with an extra bonus. For example, in 2021, the gross prorated match amount was 6.26%; credit card fees
were 2.6%. If a donor gave by credit card, the net match was an extra 3.66%. If a donor gave by check, the extra bonus was the full 6.26%. Numbers were based on a prorated match pool of $422,000. Also new this year are Extra Incentive Sponsors who are providing hourly $500 random drawings for the nonpro ts. The nonpro t that ends the day with the most donors will receive a bonus $1,000! Plus, our regional af liate community foundations in North East, Corry, Union City are adding even more to the prorated match ($30K, $20K and $10K respectively) speci cally for their local nonpro ts.
“Erie Gives is a platform for nonpro ts to succeed,” said Foundation President and CEO Karen Bilowith. “This annual giving day is an opportunity
for nonpro ts to share their mission and to cultivate new donor relationships. Erie Gives is another tool for the Foundation to strengthen the nonpro t sector and our community.”
The success of Erie Gives is due to nearly 11,000 donors and the annual commitment from generous corporate sponsors and extra incentive sponsors. Because the Foundation’s board strongly believes in Erie Gives, the trustees unanimously voted to invest $250,000 towards the prorated match pool, provide a small advertising budget, nancially support the Erie Gives website with nine servers, and dedicate countless hours of staff time. Erie Gives is The Erie Community Foundation’s gift to the community we all call home.
ERIE GIVES GONE GLOBAL
On Erie Gives, 400plus nonpro ts receive cumulative millions of dollars in donations. While all the nonpro ts serve Erie County, many Erie Gives donors reside throughout the world. Last year’s visitors to the website came from all 50 states and 33 countries! The top ve states by number of sessions include: Pennsylvania (29,866); New York (1,781); Ohio (1,011); Virginia (318), and Florida (281). The top ve countries include: United States (30,110); Ireland (70); Sweden (65),
Canada (28), Germany (12). Erie Gives donors viewed the website over 242,000 times.
Erie Gives creates a global buzz, and for eleven consecutive years, the 12-hour long day of giving power consistently breaks records from the previous year. In 2021, the second year of the pandemic, nearly 11,000 donors gave over $7M to support the work of 438 different nonpro ts. Compared to Erie Gives 2021, the total amount raised increased by 11% or nearly $700K. The numbers tell the impactful story.
“Often, we are asked to guess the success of Erie Gives, and the answer is we never know,” said Erin D. Fessler, vice president of marketing, community and government relations. “Erie Gives is more than dollars raised. The success of the day is an immeasurable community spirit generated by donors. Everyone can be a philanthropist by buying an acorn placard from Country Fair or making a gift from an IRA. Every dollar adds up. Since the inception of Erie Gives in 2011, donors have given over $40M to local nonpro ts and have learned the value of collective giving and supporting the nonpro t sector, which all equals a community win.”
2021 Record-Breaking Results:
438 nonpro ts received $7,057,176.
251 nonpro ts received at least one gift of $1,000 or more.
97 nonpro ts received $5,000 or more.
43 nonpro ts received $10,000 or more.
A total of 10,808 donors made gifts.
15% of Erie Gives gifts were $25 or $50.
The average gross gift was $220.
Most importantly, nonpro ts reported an increase in new donors.

Special thanks to The Erie Community Foundation, Erie Insurance, Wabtec, Country Fair, Presque Isle Downs and Casino, Knox Law, ERIEBANK, Frontier General Contracting, Inc., UBS-The Murphy Advisory Group, E.E. Austin & Son and National Fuel for their support of the prorated match. In addition, community foundations in North East, Corry, and Union City will add to the prorated match for their local nonpro ts by $30K, $20K and $10K respectively, and the extra incentive sponsors have donated $6,500 to add to the excitement of Erie Gives.
Through Erie Gives, donors of any income bracket are introduced to the concept of collective giving and philanthropy, which are powerful. Erie Gives gifts meet immediate needs of the nonpro ts on one day. The overall mission of the Foundation is to connect donors to causes they care about through permanent charitable endowments that bene t favored nonpro ts…forever. By working with professional advisors and estate planning attorneys, the Foundation helps donors establish endowments with a minimum of $10,000, and scholarships with a minimum of $25,000, which are investments for the future of Erie, Corry, North East, Union City and Findley Lake.
“Last year, Erie Gives broke records raising over $7M for 438 nonpro ts during the international pandemic, which speaks volumes of the generosity of local donors,” said Susannah Weis Frigon, vice president of Philanthropic Services. “Our goal is to help donors all year long to reach their charitable goals either through Erie Gives, a scholarship fund or a permanent endowment. We are just a phone call away for an easy and educational conversation.”
Currently, the Foundation is home to over 800 endowments valued at $365 million. Last year alone, the Foundation granted over $26 million to deserving nonpro ts based on donor’s wishes. Learn more at www.ErieCommunityFoundation.org.

Hagen History Center - Where History Inspires
Do you want to learn more about the inspiring stories of your ancestors?
At the Hagen History Center, we preserve and share more than 225 years of history inside four buildings at 356 West Sixth St. Since we reopened in 2021, more than 10,000 people of all ages have visited.
This year, we opened our newest exhibit: The Story of Us. It follows families who immigrated to Erie and created neighborhoods, churches and clubs. It also reveals where family members worked and how they made a living right here in our hometown.
In addition, we have Frank Lloyd Wright’s original San Francisco office on exhibit and his influence on local architecture.
Visitors also enjoy the Erie Extension Canal, military galleries, the Watson-Curtze Mansion and the stories of the families and servants who lived here. We also share exhibits on Griswold cast iron, historic clothing and much more.
Your donation to Erie Gives will support our efforts to continue to inspire and educate children and adults as we preserve our history.
Visit our website www.eriehistory.org or call 814-454-1813 x 34.

Thousands of children from across the community have used the Barber National Institute pool to learn to swim. For Addie Jost, the pool is where she learned to walk.
Addie was born with a condition that causes poor muscle tone. By the time she was three years old, she still wasn’t able to walk. When her physical therapist from the Barber Institute Early Intervention Program suggested using the pool to develop Addie’s muscles and improve her balance, her mom wanted to try.
To make learning to walk easier, the base of the pool was raised to chest level so Addie’s feet could touch the floor. “By our third session, Addie was walking without assistance! I couldn’t believe my eyes,” said her mom.
Addie went on to learn to swim in that pool, and like so many children who have used the facility, now loves the water.

Hope on Horseback Finds New Home in East County
Since 1981, Hope on Horseback Therapeutic Riding Center has introduced horses to special needs children and adults. The program was based in Fairview from the beginning. Names changed, and management changed, but the mission was always the same. Thousands of riders with challenges found strength, joy, confidence, pride and courage as they learned to ride with the help of certified instructors, dedicated volunteers and amazing horses. But situations change, and Hope on Horseback needed a new home. Enter Amber Meadow Farm. A former boarding facility at 10370 Barton Road in Waterford…the property was purchased in March by Sean and Amber Peters and they are committed to making it a premiere equine facility again. HOHB has moved in and classes began there on June 27. Hope on Horseback is actively seeking and training new volunteers this summer. Evening and daytime volunteer opportunities are available. Applicants must be at least 14 years old. No horse care or riding experience is necessary! Teens and adults can contact HOHB at: volunteer@hopehorseback.org.

Since it was constructed in 1979, the pool has become a resource for the entire community to access. Children have taken learn-to-swim lessons that range from introductory classes for toddlers to more advanced swimming and lifesaving courses. The pool has offered exercise classes, including programs for persons with arthritis or mobility issues.
The pool floor can be raised to deck level to enable wheelchairs to be rolled onto the floor and lowered in up to 4 ½ feet of water. This feature has allowed persons with physical disabilities to benefit from the therapeutic effects of water activities.
Now, the facility is ready to undergo a major renovation that will bring much needed repairs and updates.
After more than 40 years of use, the pool requires several updates to ensure that it will continue to be a community asset well into the future. The project also includes renovations that will make the locker rooms
Donations from Erie Gives will help fund renovations to the Barber National Institute pool that is enjoyed by the community.
and changing areas more spacious and increase handicap accessibility.
All proceeds from Erie Gives will help to fund the pool renovation that will improve this facility for students and adults at the Barber National Institute, as well as the community that uses the pool for swim and exercise classes.

The Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier (LEAF) is a tree museum located in Erie’s beloved Frontier Park. Historically, LEAF has o ered a wide range of educational programs, events, and art classes, while maintaining Frontier Park to be the beautiful, safe, and accessible green space that it is today.
Over the past year, LEAF has launched a county-wide tree planting program aimed at improving outdoor spaces throughout our community. ReLeaf, LEAF’s strategic initiative that has enlisted hundreds of students, families and community volunteers, is working toward planting 275,000 trees - one tree for each citizen of Erie County. With your support of LEAF on Erie Gives Day, you will allow us to continue with our Open Markets, our traditional programs and cultural events, but most importantly, you will have a hand in improving the health of our planet by supporting this local green initiative.
Your gift to us will last hundreds of years. Planting trees with ReLeaf will directly bene t the Erie community for future generations to come. We have already planted over 20,000 trees, and with your support, we can keep working toward our goal to make a lasting impact in Erie County for a healthy environment, community and planet. Community Access Media (CAM) allows individuals access to the tools of media production, training, the space, and the channel to address the needs of this community. CAM offers an extremely low-cost alternative to creating video productions for mass media.
Individual members can create a plethora of content with CAM’s facilities and equipment including videos, podcasts, and streaming content.
Without the services CAM offers, many non-profit groups would be limited in their abilities to reach out to beneficiaries and donors. Organizations as diverse as the Sisters of Mercy, Mission Empower, the Mental Health Association of NWPA, the Charter School of Excellence, and the Nonprofit Partnership have become organizational members to produce a variety of programming including several long-running and successful series.
CAM also documents several events each year including Erie’s Blues and Jazz Festival, Roar on the Shore, 8 Great Tuesdays, Knockout Homelessness, Bayfront Brawl, and Celebrate Erie.
There is no other source of low-cost community programming that has the potential to reach as many people in Erie. Community Access Media gives people and organizations the tools that they need to get their unique messages across to their intended audiences.
Everyone deserves a second chance—especially animals who have been neglected, abandoned, or abused. At the Erie Humane Society, we’ve been providing second chances to animals in need for 130 years.
Mac, a 14-year-old Chihuahua, was found lying in a ditch on a country road by a delivery driver. His fur was covered in feces, he was filthy, and appeared to have no lower jaw. The driver knocked on several doors, attempting to find the owner, but had no luck. The Erie Humane Society’s Animal Cruelty Division was contacted, and they retrieved Mac and immediately transported him to Glenwood Pet Hospital for evaluation.
Upon examination, they determined that Mac’s jaw was lost due to deterioration caused by a previous
infection that was not treated. He was also significantly underweight, and his fur was severely matted. After an unsuccessful search for Mac’s owner, it was determined that he was most likely abandoned.
While in our care, Mac also tested positive for Lyme Disease and completed treatment. Despite what he has been through, Mac’s spirit remains happy, and his social personality shines through.
It’s hard to imagine someone discarding an innocent and loving pet like Mac, but sadly, it happens every day. We’re thankful Mac found his way to us and can now live out the rest of his life getting the comfort and care he deserves. Mac recently found his way into the hearts of the most wonderful family, who have experience in caring for his special needs.
Mac’s future now holds only love and happiness. The Erie Humane Society is proud to be the longest standing, independent animal shelter in Erie County. Our dedication to our mission is evident in the work we do every day.
Our team is committed to rehabilitation, which is a critical component of our no-kill mission. This way, pets coming into the shelter have time to heal, both physically and mentally, before being adopted into loving homes.
On August 9th, Erie Gives Day, please consider being part of the hope for more animals like Mac. Maximizeyour monetary donation with the prorated match, and help the Erie Humane Society continue our 130-year legacy of second chances.
People whose lives have been torn apart by homelessness or hunger are made whole again through the generosity of people like you. Consider “John” whom The Good Samaritan Center, a Catholic Charities agency, hosted as a guest resident when he was homeless. During his stay at the shelter, John looked for work and permanent housing all while completing community service. In one month, he was able to find employment at a paper company and with some financial assistance moved into his own apartment. John stated that he was “deeply appreciative that the shelter was able to provide him with a comfortable bed, clothing, food, and a clean, safe environment to make a fresh start.”
This is just one example of how Catholic Charities serves the needs of thousands of people throughout the 13-county diocese of Erie without regard to religion, race, or national origin. We have 7 agencies currently in our network, including St. Martin Center (Erie), Catholic Charities Counseling and Adoption Services (Erie), Prince of Peace Center (Farrell), Good Samaritan Center (Clearfield), and St. Elizabeth Center (Oil City). In addition, the diocese’s commitment to respecting the dignity of all human life gave rise to the evolution of two nursing homes: Saint John XXIII Home (Hermitage) and Christ the King Manor (DuBois). Our agencies provide meals and shelter for the homeless; counseling and case management services; and emergency relief for families in need of housing, utility assistance, or food. We have soup kitchens and food pantries, serving the poorest among us. Catholic Charities relies on funds raised throughout the year to support these agencies who may not have the capacity to fundraise on their own or may operate in communities that lack strong philanthropic resources. In 2021, our network provided support that reached nearly 25,000 unduplicated individuals across 13 counties in Northwestern PA. For More Information: www.ccincerie.org (814) 824-1260
What are some of your childhood memories? For the children that SOS 4 KIDZ assists, their memories are of being hungry, having no heat, not having money to do things other kids can do, being physically or sexually abused, etc.
SOS 4 KIDZ is a non-profit organization run totally by volunteers. It was created to level the playing field for the abused and neglected children of Erie County who frequently are unable to participate in school and community activities based on the costs associated with them. We have funded things such as music lessons, classes, gymnastics, dance, sports, homecoming, prom, YMCA memberships, class trips, camp, Waldameer passes, etc. We also have purchased things to enhance self-esteem such as haircuts, braiding, contacts, glasses, bikes, trendy clothes, yearbooks, etc. Our mission is to help children/youth become involved in school and community activities and to purchase items to enhance self-esteem in an effort to create positive childhood memories. We hope that you will consider our organization worthy of your financial support.
The Mercy Center for Women. It’s a warm, safe place for women and their children to call home, when they have no home. It’s encouraging words when they have no support system as we take on that role. It’s putting residents in touch with other resources in the Erie community to help them on their journey. And it’s compassion, always, because we care.
At the heart of the Mercy Center for Women is love for all the women and children experiencing homelessness we serve.
With the addition of the Mercy Anchor Community Center later this year, more will have access to a safe home with convenient services all within the same space.
Our goal for them, their goal, is to become self-sufficient. To escape domestic violence. To be free of addiction and past mistakes—to become strong women and role models for their children.
If you would like to be a part of a long-standing mission of assisting homeless women and children in our community, please consider donating to the Mercy Center for Women on Erie Gives Day.

What could you do with the right tools? Have you ever tried to do something without the tool you needed? What kind of difference can one tool make? Those are questions we ask ourselves every day at All God’s Children Ministries.
Our volunteers use tools to build ramps for persons affected by disability. After all, a ramp is just a tool that connects people to the outside world. A ramp lets people leave their homes, enjoy a beautiful day, and live life more fully. Ramps let people go to the doctor or get out of the home in an emergency. A ramp is just a tool… but what a difference one makes when you’re without!
Your donation bridges the gap between home and community. In the space of an afternoon, a team of five or six people can reshape a family’s life. In the space of an afternoon, a small team can show the love of Christ in immediate and real ways. In the space of an afternoon, you can remind someone in the margins that they are worthy of dignity and of love and of full participation in home, church, and community. Your donation enriches lives and shatters isolation. Please remember us Tuesday, August 9th

Child Development Centers, Inc. (CDC) is a regional nonprofit organization that provides care and early childhood education to over 2,000 children across its 14 centers in Erie, Crawford, and Venango counties. Remaining dedicated to its mission of Educating Children to Succeed for over 50 years, CDC serves children between six weeks and five years old through the federal Head Start, state-funded Pennsylvania Pre-K counts, and tuition-based infant, toddler, and preschool programs. CDC also provides each child with a nutritional breakfast, lunch, and snack each day at no cost to families.

CEO Rina Irwin was recently named The Nonprofit Partnership’s 2022 CEO of the Year due to her inspiring commitment to each community’s youngest generation.
All contributions will fund the installation of an expansive playground at its seventh Erie center set to open next year at the former site of the Roosevelt Middle School. Named after the neighborhood’s rich educational history, the Roosevelt Child Development Center will carry on the tradition of educating children at this location, offering an impactful early learning experience to 150 children from all income levels.

PennFuture is leading the transition to a clean energy economy in Pennsylvania and beyond. We are protecting our water, air, and land, and empowering citizens to build sustainable communities for future generations. With offices in Erie, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and the Pocono Region, our 26 full-time staff work to protect and restore ecosystem and community health in each region of the Commonwealth.
Central to PennFuture’s work in Erie is the Our Water, Our Future Campaign, outlining policy- and community-based strategies to protect the region’s most important asset: our water. While Lake Erie and its tributaries are essential for drinking water, recreation, and a stable regional economy, protections for these resources are often overlooked and under-resourced.
We bring together a diverse mix of regional organizations committed to protecting water quality and ensuring a more equitable future. Through engagement of local communities, organizations, businesses, and elected officials, we are creating new capacity to address existing and emerging threats to Erie’s environment.
An Erie Gives Day gift to PennFuture is an investment in clean water and a more sustainable future for Erie. With your support, we will be able to broaden our network of advocates and ensure clean water and the environment become priorities at decisionmaking tables. Hatred is killing our LGBTQ+ kids and young adults!
Over 20% of American transgender and nonbinary youth tried to end their own lives last year and nearly half of all LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered suicide (www. thetrevorproject.org/survey-2022). Increased danger from others went hand-in-hand with self-harm: over 1/3 of all LGBTQ+ youth were victims of physical threats or harm, and last year was the deadliest on record for trans and nonbinary persons in America.
The Greater Erie Alliance for Equality (GEAE) works to build understanding and acceptance; strengthen support systems for the region’s LGBTQ+ community; and provide educational programs, social events, and service opportunities designed to improve the quality of life in northwest Pennsylvania for everyone.
Your entire donation will serve LGBTQ+ kids and adults throughout northwestern Pennsylvania. GEAE is the primary fiscal sponsor of monthly LGBTQ+ youth events hosted by professional counselors from Journey to a Trauma-Informed Life. We also fund scholarships for LGBTQ+ individuals through our Afternoon for Equality (August 21).
Donate to GEAE on ErieGivesDay and help save a life!
Julia Hospice and Palliative Care’s (JHPC) mission is to provide two much-needed types of healthcare currently unavailable in Erie County:
1) Free-Standing Hospice Facility - Established in 2020, JHPC is raising money to design, build, and operate the first “state of the art” free-standing hospice facility ever in Erie County called Julia House. Julia House will provide specialized end-of-life care, or hospice to those in our community who are eligible for hospice but lack a 24/7 caregiver where they live. Julia House will also provide “general inpatient (GIP) hospice” for potentially all those already receiving hospice anywhere in Erie County who experience a crisis that requires a higher level of medical care that cannot be safely provided where they are living. In 2021, very few if any hospice patients who needed GIP hospice in Erie County actually received it.
2) Outpatient Palliative Care - The Julia House will be home to the first ever outpatient palliative care clinic for all those in Erie County living with any serious potentially life-threatening illness who are interested in improving the quality of their lives.Patients will be able to meet with a team of specially trained and credentialed clinicians to design a treatment plan personalized to their needs. For those who cannot travel to our clinic, home-based palliative care will also be available.
Julia Hospice and Palliative Care has recently opened Julia Palliative Care, the first ever outpatient office practice in palliative medicine in Erie County, at the Way to Healthy Living, 4508 Zuck Road, Erie to provide support services to all adults living with a serious illness and who need better pain and symptom management, chronic care management, or a better understanding of their illness to help them makebetter shared decisions regarding their medical care and preparations for the future to relieve burdensome stress from their families. For an appointment, call 814-440-3275
Julia Hospice and Palliative Care has already raised almost one million dollars or onethird of the funds needed to start constructionof Julia House. Help us to keep up the momentum, especially in the face of rising building cots, to ensure this long-needed facility is built in our community.
Phase 1 of Julia House, an almost 13,000 sq. ft. facility, will have nine large patient suites, each with a private bathroom and porch, where family members will be allowed to stay overnight. Julia House will also have family and community spaces, flower gardens, the administrative offices of our healthcare agency, and the palliative care clinic.

During her decade of active addiction, Kristin’s decisions led her to 14 different treatment facilities, six stays in county prison, one trip to state prison, three overdoses and losing custody of her older children. By her late twenties, she found herself in total despair. “I wanted to get clean, but I didn’t know how. I didn’t know any other way of life because I had been doing it for so long,” she shares. “Grace House played a huge role in my recovery…those women loved me when I could not love myself.” Kristin came to the Erie City Mission having lost everything, but left with more than she could have imagined.
With the incredible generosity of our community throughout the year and during Erie Gives, Kristin and women just like her, are given the opportunity to experience love and healing as they walk the difficult road of recovery.
Because you gave in 2021, the Erie City Mission served 105,089 hot and healthy bagged lunches, 70 men received help for their addictions through the Mission’s long-term residential drug and alcohol recovery program, 10,300 shelter bed nights were provided to men and 17 urban youth were served through our Urban University youth program.

The Woman’s Club of Erie, Inc.
The objectives of the Woman’s Club of Erie are education, philanthropy, community engagement and preservation of the historic Clubhouse built in 1892. Organized in December 1897, the Club continues to support its members’ active participation in the Erie community through volunteer service and contributions.
As a strong proponent of education, an academic and music scholarship are awarded annually to students attending local universities. Community engagement includes Our West Bayfront activities, preparation and serving of Sunday Supper at the Church of the Covenant, donations of personal items for the Warming Shelter.
Purchased in 1921, the Downing/Galbraith Mansion, located at 259 West Sixth Street, provides members and the community with the opportunity to experience a portion of Erie’s history while contributing to its preservation for generations to come. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Clubhouse was given “Significant” status as part of Erie’s West Sixth Street Historic District. Preservation of the Richardsonian Romanesque designed home is a major component of the Club’s Mission. Throughout the years, significant repairs have been necessary, but never at the expense of the architectural integrity of the historic building.
Memberships, fundraising activities and donations provide the financial scaffolding to fulfill Mission activities. Your consideration of the Woman’s Club on Erie Gives Day will directly influence future preservation efforts.
The expERIEnce Children’s Museum is a place where children and families can race a boat, create a portrait, plant a seed, explore a cave, build a rocket, and imagine a career. The Children’s Museum has a record of serving Erie and surrounding communities through its engaging exhibits and highly interactive hands-on learning for 26 years and counting.
Since opening in 1995, the Children’s Museum has grown into a significant community asset annually receiving 64,000 visits and reaching 12,000 children and families through the Mobile Museum with focus on underserved communities – and we’re growing!
The Children’s Museum is emerging towards a larger facility which will expand the accessibility of STEAM knowledge and experience to all Erie children and beyond, contribute to the growing downtown as a city core, and serve as a community hub where children and their families from diverse backgrounds interact, share, and get to know each other.
Please consider a donation to the Children’s Museum during Erie Gives 2022 and help the Children’s Museum build a new space to further provide family-centered and inclusive learning experiences where children, families, and their schools come together to create, imagine, and explore!
With 125+ new exhibits inspiring interest in STEAM learning, as well as expansion of the exhibits that are known and loved in the current museum, donations made during Erie Gives 2022 will go towards the exciting growth of the Museum!
Supporting the Children’s Museum through Erie Gives this year is supporting the facility that enables budding friendships. Plus, be named as a contributor to the new museum if you donate $50 or more!
The Sight Center’s WELLNESS Warriors are Defeating the Number One Cause of Blindness & Profound Vision Loss in America!
After weathering the pandemic and the gradual return to a more normal world, the Sight Center of Northwest PA is growing and thriving. New alliances formed will further our goal of remaining this area’s leader in low-vision service and support. Children’s Programming has been re-vamped and is rolling with big plans this summer. Adult programming to nurture independence and enhance quality of life is gaining momentum with fresh new goals, too!
Perhaps the most exciting news comes from the Center’s National Diabetes Prevention Program. Enrollment is growing fast, and word is spreading in our communities that PREDIABETES IS REVERSIBLE and TYPE 2 DIABETES IS PREVENTABLE! Hundreds of your neighbors have completed this evidence-based, year-long lifestyle change program. Participants are losing excess weight, getting active, and improving their blood sugar, cholesterol, triglyceride, and blood pressure levels. BLINDNESS IS BEING PREVENTED! Sustained high blood sugars destroy eyesight over time, but we are getting ahead of that dangerous curve.
On April 1st, 2022 The Sight Center’s efforts to defeat preventable blindness and vision loss in our world was validated when our National Diabetes Prevention Program earned “Full Plus Accreditation” with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). This distinction is very rare, but speaks to the outstanding quality of programming that is available right here in our community! Forty-eight states are delivering this program, and our little agency in Northwest PA is leading the pack. If you or your organization would like to learn more about this life, limb, and vision- saving program, please call Becca today at 814-4038583, Be Well!! beccas@sightcenternwpa.org.

Hope Rescue has been helping Erie and Crawford County pets since 2013. After the passage of Libre’s Law, our role in the rescue community changed. After evaluating the community’s needs, we decided to get back to our roots and give back to the community with Giving Hope.
The Giving Hope program is designed to help families with pets in need of medical care and assists in keeping them together by offering financial assistance. This includes helping with medical costs, prescriptions, food, training, etc. Our goal is to keep pets safe, healthy, and home with their families.
Giving Hope is 100% funded through fundraisers and community donations. We would love to help with all requests but we can only help if funds are available.
Hope Rescue is here to give a hand-up to families in need in our area. We believe in helping, healing, and creating happy tails! We remain involved in accepting dogs into our rescue program but have a limited number of foster homes available.
Pictured is Achilles, who suffered a broken leg after being hit by a car. We assisted with his surgery and he is now on the road to recovery.

Community Shelter Services is known to the community for its commitment and integrity of the agency’s mission “to preserve the dignity and support the development of those individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing temporary, transitional and permanent options for shelter, as well as supportive services, referrals, advocacy, and community education.”
CSS aids the poor and homeless who come to our agency for basic human services in times of critical need. We begin by providing immediate services in our Emergency Shelter and then assist individuals and families with various levels of support services to maintain a functional lifestyle and housing stability. We operate 96 units of sitebased subsidized housing for single adults with little or no income. We also own and operate several single-family homes in which we place former emergency shelter residents. We serve over 500 adults and families annually and have been doing this work for over forty years. The clients we serve include veterans suffering from PTSD, the seriously mentally ill, individuals with substance abuse issues, families fleeing domestic violence and child abuse, and the poor and unemployed facing eviction or foreclosure. As a member of the HOME team, we partner with other service providers to plan and administer the community’s safety net for the homeless. We transform lives using a holistic approach to understanding and addressing behavioral health, housing and employment needs. We commit ourselves to helping those we serve achieve renewed lives of dignity and self-determination.
Community Shelter Services’ ability to keep this vulnerable population safe is reflective of all the support we receive from you and others in our community. Your gift to CSS this Erie Gives Day ensures that we can continue to provide refuge and pathways to stability for those in need.

When you donate to EUMA through Erie Gives, you are helping children and their families move from homeless to home – from hopeless to hope in a brighter tomorrow.
You can make HOME a reality for families with children who are experiencing a housing crisis, as well as youth aging out of foster care, Veterans, and individuals in our community.
At EUMA, we believe the only way to END homelessness is by giving people a HOME and making sure they have the tools and resources to stay permanently and stably housed. EUMA shelters and services exists to end immediate homelessness – providing critical emergency shelter, basic necessities, faithful support, and a commitment to ending homelessness – not merely addressing it.
With your help last year, 52 families were sheltered at EUMA’s The Refuge. 75% of those families moved into a permanent home of their own. Through all of EUMA’s programs, 84 children and 198 adults– from newborns to young adults to Veteran-headed households found homes of their own!
EUMA operates primarily on your private donations - we depend on your support.

Meals on Wheels Erie delivers nutritious meals and groceries, companionship, and a watchful eye on the safety of the seniors and disabled members of our community. Since 1971, we have continuously served the Erie Area by coordinating a legion of caring volunteers.
Our clients depend on our meals to help them as they age in place; if they are impeded by a disability; or if they are recuperating from surgery or illness.
Last year we delivered over 54,000 meals directly to the homes of older adults and persons under the age of 60 with disabilities. Our grocery shoppers completed over 1000 grocery shopping trips.
Executive Director Wendy Wallace shared, “Fighting hunger and delivering nutrition to the doorsteps of the homebound is our primary Mission, but Meals on Wheels Erie delivers much more than a meal or a bag of groceries. Our volunteers provide the social connection so many of our homebound clients crave and our service can also play a major role in helping them stay independent in their homes. Thanks to our donors, we are able to continue providing this vital social service for Erie County.”

Our mission is to encourage, educate and support people with PD and their families in the Erie region.
Our Information and Referral line and website provide PD resources and information.
Virtual and in-person support groups, educational seminars and social gatherings keep people engaged and supported.

In most cases, PD is not hereditary and can strike anyone.
We are the only Erie charity dedicated to helping those with PD.
Respite Care and Transportation Grants are available for those who qualify.
“Not all patients with PD are candidates and benefit from therapies such as deep brain stimulation, but ALL patients with PD are candidates and benefit from community programs,” Dimitrios Nacopoulos, MD, Neurologist/ Movement Disorder Specialist, UPMC Hamot.
Your generous donation to Erie Gives helps us continue to provide help and hope to the PD community. EP-31020924
Erie Gives: to So a!
In 1939, So a began working in the vineyards her parents tended for Concord in Girard.
She was 9.
“I hated it! The heat, the beetles, and the kids at school used to tease me about my purple ngers,” she said laughing. “But everyone, all us kids, had to help, had to do our part to support the family.”
She married Hal in 1959 and together they raised two girls. Living in the Erie area for over 55 years they were active in the community, So a volunteered at school and their church, Hal was a volunteer reman. When Hal became too ill from Parkinson’s disease to work, he retired from GERail. Then, when he started needing a wheelchair, they moved into Presbyterian SeniorCare Network Manchester Commons. It was an adjustment, So a missed her garden, but
with help from the sta they thrived. They enjoyed socializing with their fellow residents, appreciated the physical support for Hal and were grateful to not have to worry about maintaining a house.
Five years ago, Hal passed and So a, now 92, nds that Hal’s pension and social security can no longer cover all her increasing medical needs and medications.
“It’s just me now,” So a said. “Manchester Commons is my home, the people here are my family.”
For over 90 years, no one has ever been asked to leave a Presbyterian SeniorCare Network community because of an inability to pay—that is our organization’s commitment to the people we are so privileged to serve. But it takes the generosity and compassion of donors to make this commitment possible.

INNER-CITY NEIGHBORHOOD ART HOUSE
“Hi! My name is Maryia. I am 9 years old. I was born in Belarus but have lived in the United States for four years. My favorite subjects in school are art and physical education. I speak English and Russian. I have been coming to the Art House since I was 7 years old. My favorite classes at the Art House are piano, gardening, and clay. I like coming to the Neighborhood Art House because there are really fun and cool classes.”
Founded in 1995 by the Benedictine Sisters of Erie, the Inner-City Neighborhood Art House provides classes in the visual, performing, and literary arts and environment to youth ages 7-18 living in Erie in a safe, nurturing, and caring environment. Nearly 30% of Erie’s youth live in poverty and are unlikely to afford the opportunities the Art House provides free of charge. Research has proven that students who participate in music, theatre, and/or dance achieve higher scores on standardized math tests, better scores in communications courses, and have higher graduation rates. Please help us to inspire a better future through the arts for more kids like Maryia!

2022 marks the 100th Year Anniversary for Saint George Church!

We celebrate over 30 ministries that continue to serve our parish families. A sense of community and commitment describe the men and women who built our church. We now continue this commitment for our future generations!
The Arc Erie County (PA) was founded in 1952 to procure services for children and adults who were denied an education, the right to attend daycare and preschools, and the right to work. More than 70 years later, The Arc continues to build on the solid traditions of the past by serving all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout the county.
In January 2022, The Arc Erie County became an affiliate of The Arc of Greater Pittsburgh as a member of the Achieva Family of Organizations. The affiliation will help to support advocacy services needed by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families in Erie County when navigating complicated special education and adult service systems, as well as give them access to professional, compassionate, and innovative disability services offered by Achieva’s other affiliate organizations (Achieva Support, Achieva Family Trust, Autism Connection of Pennsylvania)
The Arc Erie County offers information, resources, technical assistance, and advocacy on issues including early intervention, special education, inclusion, transition to adulthood, employment, housing, transportation, health care, Medicaid waivers, and government benefits including Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Income, Social Security Disability Income and non-government benefits including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and utility assistance.
They also work with state and federal legislators on issues that impact children and adults with disabilities and their families, such as increased funding for early intervention and special education, increased funding for the waiting list, and increased rates for home and community-based services.

ICM: Service to the Community.
Inter-Church Ministries of Erie County is a 501(c)3 non-profit providing
unduplicated services throughout the county and ever expanding to serve more people in need. Now in our fifth decade of community service, we have run the Coats for Kids campaign for 33 years and the Voucher System for Emergency Assistance (VSEA) for 30 years; the VSEA is a niche program ingeniously managed and distributed through a network of congregations and community agencies, providing aid when other community resources are not available, and Coats for Kids will be bigger and better in 2022. Historically, ICM has been a catalyst in the development and promotion of many programs addressing needs of individuals and the community at large. Faith-based, yes, and an umbrella organization for the churches of Erie County; yet our focus is on providing for the needs of others without concern for the faith of those served. Thus, we work and collaborate with other faith communities and many social services agencies to best meet those needs.
ICM needs your support for these unique services and the work we do. We are called to be a catalyst for direct community impact, advocacy, education and awareness for Erie County’s continuing and newly emerging needs and are absolutely committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, that this beloved community can be a place of hope and peace for all, with opportunity to grow and thrive, a place of welcome, a real and true home. We are seeking community support -- your support -- that we may continue to provide these valuable services which ultimately benefit us all. Please remember Inter-Church Ministries of Erie County on Erie Gives Day. For further information, please visit www.icmeriecounty.org. Thank you for your support of ICM and all non-profits; and thank you to the Erie Community Foundation for Erie Gives Day honoring the benevolence and gratitude of the people of Erie County PA and beyond.
YOUR HEALTH. OUR MISSION. YMCA OF GREATER ERIE
Today, we are more health-conscious than ever before. We’re realizing that staying t isn’t just about looking good. We want to feel well enough to play with our children, enjoy a hobby, walk down the aisle, or travel.
Unfortunately, 1 out of 2 Erie County residents reports poor physical health and low-income adults can be 65% at higher risk for the same life-threatening diseases.
We need your help. You can make a di erence in the health of someone you may never meet.
We need to create more community partnerships with local churches and nonpro ts to deliver health improvement programs focused on:
• Smarter health choices;
• Disease prevention, detection, and control;
• And mental health and quality of life.
With your gift to the YMCA of Greater Erie on Erie Gives Day, we’ll reach more people in places like the Erie City Mission or Garden Height Baptist Church with evidence-based, small group programs at free or low-cost that are proven to delay or even prevent the costly impact of chronic disease.
All people deserve the joys of a healthy life. And, your gift to the Y on Erie Gives Day can help give all people an equal opportunity to improve their health and enjoy tomorrow.

No one plans to be homeless. But it happens every day. And the reasons are as varied as the people themselves: poor mental health; addiction and substance abuse; fleeing domestic violence; economic hardship; illiteracy and more. The face of homelessness today has evolved. They might look stereotypically unkempt, or they might be in line next to you at the store.
Contributions to Community of Caring will go to our programs which offer safety, shelter and support to men and women in need. We offer a secure 24-bed facility for the men and a separate secure 19-bed house for the females. It’s hard to focus on getting a job, an apartment or even their own health when they don’t have peace of mind. When life is in chaos they can’t concentrate.
We can’t buy peace, but your financial support can help us provide peace of mind to our residents in desperate need of help. Caring is always in season – can we count on your support?

Erie Gives Day is right around the corner, the time of year when our community comes together to support its local nonprofit organizations. Your donation matters! Your donation will make a difference! How?
When you give to Community Health Net, you affirm that our community’s health and vitality are prioritized! Your donation ensures that individuals in the Lake Erie region have access to high-quality healthcare, regardless of insurance type, status, or ability to pay! Your gift supports equitable access to medical, dental, vision, behavioral health, pharmacy, and other specialized health services that help our community continue to feel great!
On Erie Gives Day, you can feel good about donating to Community Health Net. Why? Because we have served the community for over 35 years and are home to about 100 staff and clinicians who love Erie. Alison Davis, LPN, is one of them. She has worked for Community Health Net for over 15 years in our Healthcare for the Homeless program, caring for individuals of all walks of life. Alison has seen many people that remind her of her brother, who, alone, could not care for himself after suffering a stroke and dementia. That experience provided a profound perspective that increased her capacity to empathize with her patients deeply, often extending herself after-hours to care for their needs. She noted: “Many of the patients in the program do not have family members who will support them. They need someone who isn’t going to judge them when they come in the door. They deserve to be seen and cared for with respect. We need to have compassion for people.”

What Is the League of Women Voters’ Mission?
The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization that encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major policy issues and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters is a peoples’ organization that has fought at the federal, state, and local level since 1920 to improve our government. We never endorse or oppose political parties or candidates, but work to engage Americans in the decisions that impact their lives through broad educational efforts as well as advocacy.
Formed from the movement that secured women’s’ right to vote, the centerpiece of the League’s efforts remains to expand participation and give a voice to all Americans.
Why Should I Support the League of Women Voters?
The League is different because we are truly volunteer-driven. From our legislative luncheons, school education programs, voter registrations and suffragette cemetery walks to our presence at naturalization ceremonies to welcome new citizens, we are a grass-roots organization. We provide every member with opportunities to engage in our democracy. We believe that we need everyone to participate, in order for our communities to be strong, safe and vibrant.
Whether you contribute your time, funding, or both, you can feel confident that your investment in democracy goes further in the League!

Northern Pennsylvania Regional College
A ordable and accessible higher education in northern Pennsylvania had been a need in the region for a long time. Over the last several years, that has changed as Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC) has helped to provide students with opportunities to earn a college degree or professional certifications closer to home.
NPRC was o cially established as a publicly funded institution of higher education and incorporated 501(c)(3) in May of 2017 to provide a ordable and accessible postsecondary education to the residents of northern Pennsylvania. Prior to 2017, NPRC was previously known as the Educational Consortium of the Upper Allegheny (ECUA) and the Rural Regional College of Northern Pennsylvania (RRC). The College previously operated with higher education partners to provide accredited coursework and establish evidence that identified a need for higher education within the region. Feasibility studies were completed in 2011 and 2013 that provided additional evidence that a need existed, not only for a ordable, accessible technical and associate degree programs in northwestern Pennsylvania, but also that this programming is critical to the region’s economy both now and in the future. NPRC is now home to five associate degree programs, a general studies certificate program, and a collection of workforce development programs, making NPRC the home to a wide range of students like first-generation college students on the academic side and industry leading professionals in the workforce development sector.
NPRC’s model delivers flexible, career-focused curricula through high-quality class instruction from industry-leading professionals at multiple instructional locations throughout nine counties that include Cameron, Crawford, Elk, Erie, Forest, McKean, Potter, Venango, and Warren. NPRC o ers instruction at over twenty di erent locations, while o ering a combination of morning and evening classes to allow students flexibility to simultaneously focus on their career and educational interests. Erie County is home to six instructional locations including the NPRC Education and Training Center, the Corry Higher Education Council, the 4 N.I.N.E Center in North East, Rice Avenue Middle School in Girard, Union City Junior/Senior High School, and Corry Area High School.
Residents of the nine-county footprint can enroll in classes at the low rate of $185.00 per credit hour, with a current suspension of additional institutional fees, a cost that is around 70 percent lower than traditional brick-and-mortar colleges. NPRC’s reputation continues to gain momentum in a positive direction as an increasing number of employers actively look to hire its alumni. Additionally, NPRC’s most recent post-graduation survey yielded promising responses, with over 80 percent of respondents indicating they had a job opportunity lined up post-graduation.
The College continues to advance its strong Early Entry program, one that provides a pathway for high school students to take classes through NPRC at one of the instructional locations near them. This program is open to juniors and seniors allowing them to work toward their associate degree prior to receiving a high school diploma. NPRC has early entry agreements at three Erie County Schools – Girard, Union City, and Corry. However, early entry students from all Erie County high schools can enroll in classes at the NPRC Education and Training Center, the Corry Higher Education Council, or at the 4 N.I.N.E Center in North East. Northern Pennsylvania Regional College is approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to grant degrees and certificates in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and is proudly pursuing accreditation. Throughout the accreditation process, NPRC continues to expand its course o erings to develop stackable credentials, allowing students to progress through career pathways in various progressive program opportunities.
NPRC’s associate degrees include Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Early Childhood Education, Liberal Studies, and Social Sciences. Occupation-based credentials include Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, and School-Age Professional Credential (SAPC) Preparation courses. Workforce development training includes Emergency Medical Services, Precision Machining, Industrial Maintenance, Powdered Metal, Tourism, Hospitality Management, Supervision and Leadership, Wastewater Treatment, Human Services, and Fire Safety. NPRC’s Workforce Development is set apart by its ability to customize training programs specific to the needs of employers.
Although NPRC focuses on keeping courses a ordable, many students still find it di cult to participate in post-secondary education. The funds raised through participation in Erie Gives may be used in multiple ways to support NPRC’s mission of a ordability and accessibility for its students. They seek to provide students with the opportunity through full or partial scholarships to enroll at NPRC, technology purchases for accessibility like laptops and hotspot rentals, and expansion of locations and lab spaces to provide more opportunities to future students.
No matter where students start or what they hope to achieve, NPRC empowers students to change their lives and brighten their futures. With your help through Erie Gives 2022, NPRC can make an even bigger di erence to help students find success close to home.
