‘You work bloody hard & then look in your pay packet and frown...then you look up, and around, and smile. Spain: it’s about what’s there...and not what’s not.’
Penny for them... Paco waited...then as the sun came out from behind a cloud he brought my coffee & croissants... “and NOW you have everything!” he said. That was last week, and one of the many reasons I love living here.

Fiscal help... Dies betrifft besonders deutsche Ruheständler in Spanien. Web: www.andreaburns.es

ANNUAL INCOME TAX DECLARATION FOR RESIDENTS IN SPAIN It is the time of the year again and for all those residents that have never filed their annual income tax declaration this information is hopefully very useful. Unlike in the UK, where the tax year ends in April, the Spanish tax year coincides with the natural year, 1st January to 31st December, and the annual tax declaration is filed between the months of May and June. The banks have sent out letters with all the relevant tax details regarding your accounts (it will say información fiscal). Here is a list of the required details that your accountant will need: - Personal details (name, N.I.E. number, birth date, civil status, family details, etc.) - SUMA bills for all properties, or copy of the deed if not yet available. - Income from work, old age pension (equivalent in Euros!) - Taxes paid abroad on pensions - Interest payments, dividends, sale of bonds, etc. (this information is usually sent by the bank for the annual tax return) - Received rent payments - Income from work and part payments made to the tax office (only if you are self-employed) - Capital gains from the sale of properties, shares, etc., deeds and expenses related to the sale.
Not to get taxed in the UK because an income is within the taxfree allowance has no influence on having to file a tax declaration in Spain. For more information or an appointment please contact us on 96 6697824 or office@andreaburns.es. Web: www.andreaburns.es

ABOUT SPAIN AT EXPO
But one particular Brit negative about UK after staying at Rising Dump… Dave Bull An invite to talk about life in Spain as an expat at the A Place in the Sun Exhibition at Olympia in April was a tempting offer, and one I couldn’t really turn down; 3 days in the heart of London chatting about my life in the sun – and a coffee bar nearby – sounded ideal, so I went. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I arrived at the impressive Victorian structure of Olympia, apart that is from another hour’s wait as I’d forgotten to change my watch. Still I’d also forgotten my razor, deodorant, phone charger and bank card so timekeeping was low on the list and the extra hour allowed me time to purchase such necessities, and have a shave. A First Life is full of firsts I guess, and that Friday morning I chalked up another for myself having never had a shave in a Turkish kebab bar before and having been made very welcome by Mohammed, his wife, father, mother, brother and several others I didn’t quite catch the relationship to Mohammed of. Clean shaven and smelling more like a tropical forest (apparently) I drank up my second coffee and bade the Turkish Osmonds and headed off to the exhibition centre. Simon Morris and Paul Payne would be alongside me on the stand for the three days and immediately the doors opened we were engulfed by sun-seeking propertyhunters and didn’t talk to each other again until one of us asked, ‘What are you having?’ while in the, er, ‘recovery area’ also known locally as The Frog & Flower Arms. It had been that sort of day and one, which traditionally, is a little quitter with more trade and networking going on as the public, generally, are at work.
8
Once we’d ‘recovered’ fully, we headed our separate ways and I, with more than a little dread, headed back to my hotel, Revive Lodge, which would have helped potential clients immensely by changing its name to ‘Survive’ Lodge, it was awful. So bad that it was quite funny, until the last morning, but we’ll get to that. So there I was, having been helped to become ‘well-recovered’ in the pub by Paul, Simon and a good few others from the Costa Blanca, standing at Clapham Junction and wondering what idiot had decided to print all the time-tables blurred, and all the signs. Still after asking a helpful guard I was on my way again – to Survive Lodge. Survive I’d had my doubts about the place from the moment I got there. Despite the fact that the first words from the landlord were not ‘Welcome to Revive Lodge we hope you enjoy your stay with us…’ but were in fact ‘£95.50 please?’ (The balance for the room, after I had paid a deposit online). Once in the room I’d shu8t the door. I say door, when actually I should say short piece of wood that sort of blocked the door aperture as it was about six inches short of the floor and didn’t quite close at the top. However, I did have a double bed to myself, a TV, Wi-Fi, and an en-suite bathroom so I couldn’t complain too much could I? The TV aerial, which was a tiny thing hanging from a mirror, had to be moved each time I changed channel and the headboard moved when I leant on it. After asking if I could possibly have a glass in my room, they offered a mug…and the only light in the room was a million-watt bulb that had been clearly borrowed from one of the Wembley floodlights that meant I need to wear sun-glasses in the room whenever it was on. The shower didn’t work in my room and when I used the one upstairs, after moving the soaking paint brushes in the sink to clean my teeth, I discovered that the landlord’s idea of warm was about the same as the temperature of cold tea; it was not good and with no answer from his door I headed off to the comfort, and mod cons, of Olympia.
The Saturday was much like the first, only busier, and with an awful lot of interest in the Costa Blanca – and much of that interest finding Gran Alacant an appealing place to look for a home – we were on our feet chatting all day and by the time I had to head off to Feltham’s equivalent of Rising Damp (with and Indian Rigsby…) we were all shattered but pleased with a good and busy day’s work. Fork’s Sake The second evening oat ‘Survive’ I decided to head out and get myself a take-away from the row of shops about 500 metres down the road from where the spare room, I mean Hotel was located. ‘Whatever you do don’t walk back in the dark!’ warned Rigsby. When I asked why he just shook his head and said, ‘dangerous’ and walked off. Clearly I made it back safely or I wouldn’t be writing this and I asked Rigsby, upon my return, if I could perhaps borrow a fork to eat my Chinese take-away. I might as well have asked for access to his bank account as the following round of questions established just why I would need it and what I would be using it for, and when I would be returning it. I passed the test somehow and was rewarded with the precious fork, again after confirming that I would return it before I left, and sat down on the bed to eat. If the headboard hadn’t collapsed totally halfway through my Chow Mein I would have enjoyed eating it rather than wearing it, and then there was the thought of another cold shower. He must have heard me swearing, before, during and after the quickest shower of my life though. On the Sunday morning I woke early and couldn’t wait for the clock to tick round to the time I could go out in the rain and catch a train to Olympia. However, in the meantime at least I could enjoy the Formula 1 which was on until the glorious escape. As I watched Lewis and co’ belting around the track I noticed a dark stain on the white bottom sheet I was sitting on. I nudged the sheet but the stain remained where it was. Investigating further I lifted
Advertising hotline! 606 540 408 - TAKE UP OUR OFFER!
the sheet only to be greeted by what I can say was the most impressive collection of stains, marks and whatevers I’ve seen since my granddad cleaned out his pigeon loft. I removed myself from the bed as if I had sat on a spike and threw the sheet on the floor. Horrible and I’d been sleeping on that bed for three days! With no answer when I went to his door again – I wonder if he gets a few guests trying to break his door down – I told him not to worry as I’d post a review on the internet where his ‘hotel’ is advertised…thank you for reading about Rising Dump... Sunday back at Olympia was a great day with plenty of interest from visitors and many trying to get an autograph or two from the stars of the TV programme of the same name. Paul, Simon and I were once again nodding to each other over peoples’ heads for most of the day until it was time to head to Gatwick, and coffee, and Spain.
Footnote Paul Rodwell, the British Consul was there to talk about life abroad for potential expats and many small businesses had funded this expensive weekend for themselves but the huge shame of it was the lack of a presence by any of Spain’s many tourist offices or town halls to help encourage, and answer questions, for Brits looking to move abroad. Yes, the estate agents there are trying to earn a living from it but they also form a hugely important part in bringing foreigners and their money to the Spanish economy – one that surely needs it? What really disappointed me was the attitude of my own town hall to the matter. Apathy does not cover it and, as we already know their blindness over Gran Alacant and promoting the area is well known. Just four years ago a Santa Pola Tourist Office promotional DVD was produced.12 minutes and not even a mention
or an image of Gran Alacant…odd. Considering the fact that there are over 165 businesses (with shop fronts) in Gran Alacant and probably treble that figure working as self-employed, Santa Pol’s attitude to pushing Santa Pola town as the place to go to is not only an insult but also a poor lack of vision. It wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t know about the exhibition…however; I approached them on the subject, and asked if the mayor and local councillor would write Forewords for my new book about the area which needed to be completed before the show. They agreed, and then cancelled the meeting at 25 minutes’ notice – on the final week. Still, I persisted and offered to take any publicity they had for the region with me and hand it out at the show. They didn’t even bother with a reply…

The square has never been so busy with people and all the businesses asked us to pass on their thanks to all those who came along during the last year or so to offer support and of course, enjoy what’s on offer! ‘aving a laugh... The Talking Centipede A single guy decided life would be more fun if he had a pet. So he went to the pet store and told the owner that he wanted to buy an unusual pet. After some discussion, he finally bought a talking centipede, (100-legged bug), which came in a little white box to use for his house. He took the box back home, found a good spot for the box, and decided he would start off by taking his new pet to church with him. So he asked the centipede in the box, “Would you like to go to church with me today? We will have a good time.” But there was no answer from his new pet. This bothered him a bit, but he waited a few minutes and then asked again, “How about going to church with me and receive blessings?” But again, there was no answer from his new friend and pet. So he waited a few minutes more, thinking about the situation. The guy decided to invite the centipede one last time. This time he put his face up against the centipede’s house and shouted, “Hey, in there! Would you like to go to church with me and learn about God?” YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS . This time, a little voice came out of the box, “I heard you the first time! I’m putting my shoes on!”
1. The Ugliest Baby A woman gets on a bus with her baby. The driver says, “Ugh! That’s the ugliest baby I’ve ever seen.” The woman stalks off to the rear of the bus and sits down. She turns to the man sitting next to her and says, “The driver just insulted me!” The man says, “You go and give him a telling off. I’ll hold your monkey for you.” 2. The Zoo ”I went to the zoo the other day, there was only one dog in it, it was a shitzu.” 3. Bar Stories (1) ”Dyslexic man walks into a bra” 4 Blondes A young blonde woman is distraught because she fears her husband is having an affair, so she goes to a gun shop and buys a handgun. The next day she comes home to find her husband in bed with a beautiful redhead. She grabs the gun and holds it to her own head. The husband jumps out of bed, begging and pleading with her not to shoot herself. Hysterically the blonde responds to the husband, ”Shut up…you’re next!” 5. A classic Tommy Cooper gag ”I said to the Gym instructor “Can you teach me to do the splits?” He said, ”How flexible are you?” I said, ”I can’t make Tuesdays” 6.Teenagers Police arrested two kids yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one – and let the other one off. 7.Love is in the Air Two aerials meet on a roof – fall in love – get married. The ceremony was rubbish – but the reception was brilliant. 8. Doctor, Doctor (1) Doc, I can’t stop singing the ‘Green Green Grass of Home‘. He said: ‘That sounds like Tom Jones syndrome’. ‘Is it common?’I asked. ‘It’s not unusual’ he replied.
9.Diet drinks I’m on a whiskey diet. I’ve lost three days already. 10. Bar Stories(2) A man walks into a bar with a roll of tarmac under his arm and says: ”Pint please, and one for the road.” 11. Doctor, Doctor (2) I went to the doctors the other day and I said, ‘Have you got anything for wind?’ So he gave me a kite. 12. Mother-in-law My mother-in-law fell down a wishing well, I was amazed, I never knew they worked. 13.Chat Lines I saw this bloke chatting up a cheetah; I thought, ”He’s trying to pull a fast one”. 14.Twins A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named ‘Amal.’ The other goes to a family in Spain, they name him Juan’. Years later; Juan sends a picture of himself to his mum. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wished she also had a picture of Amal. Her husband responds, ”But they are twins. If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.” 15 Goldfish. There’s two fish in a tank, and one says ”How do you drive this thing?” 16.Shopping (1) I went to buy some camouflage trousers the other day but I couldn’t find any. 17.Put-Down When Susan’s boyfriend proposed marriage to her she said: ”I love the simple things in life, but I don’t want one of them for my husband”. 18.Doctor, Doctor (3) ”My therapist says I have a preoccupation with vengeance. Dave put a few questions to The Sheriff (the boss of Real Radio) here are his answers... Hi Sheriff you are always busy how do you do it? - I love the pressure of life in the fast lane and I made a very important decision in 2011 and joined the Coastrider Newspaper as the Marketing Director, and it has proved to be the correct decision as well as marketing the newspaper I have many other daily tasks that keep me occupied and always most important is a great working relationship with the entire Coastrider Team

Hi, I´m...Á girl called Soo´ and I’ve been working for REAL RADIO now for about the last 10 months. It was Lorna Michelle that introduced me to it in the first place, god never would have thought about it, to be honest when I first went up to see them it scared the pants off me cause the Sheriff just gave me the mic and told the listeners that I was going to take over whilst he went for a beer......OMG I nearly had kittens hahaha. Well the first week was terrifying but after realising that all I was doing was talking to REAL people out there and that I was in fact just that, a REAL per son, no one special, just me, who makes mistakes, messes up and forgets things just like everyone (after all I am blonde & Essex haha) and after getting text & Facebook good luck messages and requests I seemed to settle in and really enjoy and go with the flow of it. Now I love my Towie weekend show, playing all my fav´s from the 60´s up to date on Saturdays 4-7 and Sunday´s 4-7 I play either Love songs or Motown which everyone can chillax too. Of course it wouldn’t be the same without my dog George that accompanies me to the Studio, so tune in and listen to me, keep it REAL....... you know it makes sense x

The music and type of shows available were, and to a certain extent still are, not directed to a general audience. Most stations have a small audience per presenter. I wanted to provide a platform for people who had a passion for music and fancied a go at being a radio presenter and it has taken me two years to get that mix together, I feel this has now been achieved we have a great team - no divas - just good fun loving people with personalities. And with an audience of 14,000 plus via FM and our websites daily I guess we are doing ok. Our advertising costs are the lowest on the Costa Blanca with the largest audience including German, Scandinavian and we even have listeners in China, USA, Canada and as you know Australia. Originally part of the Nolan sisters line-up he was removed for wearing the stage costumes home and decided to move onwards and upwards. That didn’t happen so he came to Spain and started his building business – Bloke in a Dress Builders catering for the niche transvestite market on the Costa Blanca. Nowadays with a full crew (from Thailand) he can be seen supervising reforms and is distinctive as being the only building crew with pink wheel barrows this side of Brighton. On the radio Bernie brings a ray of light into homes – usually as he overcooks the transformer but his gentle and slightly camp (sounds a lot like Graham Norton) Irish brogue will certainly titter the hearts of many expats looking to have someone in their life they can ignore… (Footnote: that’ll teach him for being the only one not to send a bio in…)

Since we predominantly talk about Premier League football, I feel that we should give our congratulations to the Champions League winners: Bayern Munich. They prospered against the likes of Arsenal, Barcelona and, in the final, Borussia Dortmund. The final lived up to expectations, with Bayern coming out worthy winners after an 88th minute winner in the 2-1 victory. Taking place at Wembley Stadium, the final was Bayern’s 3rd in 4 years! While it was a disappointing compared to last years triumphs, we should also congratulate the Europa League winners, Chelsea. Setting a new record of being the first side to win the Champions League and Europa League in a row, Chelsea also won thanks to a last minute winner against Portuguese giants Benfica, once again the match ending 2-1. On a local note, it is wonderful news to see Elche promoted to the first Division. It allows us to see the stars of Real Madrid and Barcelona just around the corner, what could be better! Moving away from victories, the end of the season was bitter-sweet for many fans, especially British ones. An astonishing amount of sport stars retired this season. David Beckham, Sir Alex Ferguson, Michael Owen, Jamie Carragher, Paul Scholes, Stiliyan Petrov, Paulo Ferreira, Phil Neville, Steve Harper and even referee Mark Halsey retired at the end of this season. Read that list back a couple of times. It’s simply shocking. Just imagine the team that could be made with those players in their prime! It’s very sad to see these legends retire, and Beckham and Ferguson in particular shook the football world- and in Beckham’s case even the media, film and music industry! So let’s reflect on my predictions. They were far from awful, but not exactly great. I predicted the top four would be Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal albeit in any order. I also predicted Spurs and Everton for 5th and 6th. My relegation predictions, on the other hand, were awful, with me claiming that QPR should be easily safe, and that Southampton and Norwich would be relegated. I think my worst prediction was that Van Persie wasn’t worth the money! I guess this all shows how hard it is to predict the Premier League, and that is why it is such a shame it is now all over… So with that in mind, please give a moment’s silence. Ok, forget that, because another season is just about so start! In fact, we football fans in Spain even have the Confederations Cup to look forward to, with representatives from the EPL in the team. Do us proud boys! Now this is also a time for the football transfer window to reopen, so what are teams doing? Well Chelsea are changing manager and seem set to name old manager Mourinho for his second spell at the club, and in typical Chelsea fashion have been linked to every player on Earth. Man City are trying to buy but, like Chelsea, are more focusing on naming a new manager after Mancini was sacked. Pellegrini of Malaga seems most likely to join the Citizens. Spurs are simply trying to keep Gareth Bale from Real Madrid, as are Liverpool with Suarez, and Man Utd are being linked to the entire Everton team after getting Moyes as their new manager. What I’m trying to say is that it is impossible to predict what will happen. With that in mind, let’s wait and see what’s happened by next month!
