BOOM TOWN! By Dave Bull

From Page 1.

It wasn’t that long ago that the winter in Gran Alacant meant many businesses closed their doors or drastically reduced their hours to save money as there were very few people around. Take a look at GA now and you´ll see more businesses open than ever, and, in general, they’re doing well. Not only that, there are new, and diverse, businesses starting up all the time in the area ranging from luggage handling companies, rental businesses and painting and decorating to car mechanics and beauty salons. And they’re all doing well. GA is on the up once again after seven years of stagnation following the financial crisis in 2008. Talking to local business owners and the feedback is all positive. Take Steve and

Centro Comercial de Carabassi, Avenida de Noruega, 214, Local Nº7, 03130 Santa Pola, www.granalacantproperties.com

Jan at La Cesta bakery and cafe in Avenida Mediterraneo who are busy every day serving up fresh pastries, breakfasts and more. The couple and the family team took over the business a couple of years ago and have built it up to where it is now, full up in February! As I said at the top of this article it wasn’t long ago when places like this would be doing less, or reduced hours – especially in February, which along with November, is the quietest time of the year. Paul Bayley, who left his full time job to go on his own and start up his vehicle repair service, is reaping the rewards of this upward curve in the local economy telling me that he has a diary full of cars booked in for repairs, ITV´s and servicing. Howell’s Removals tell me that they are bringing more and more people to live in Spain from all over Europe than before, with Gran Alacant a big favourite due to its great location near to the cities and the airport, and of course the beach! Just take a ride on the tourist train (which has been running all winter) and you´ll see that while it’s not of course at summer

+34 966 699 441 levels, the shops and bars and businesses in the commercial areas have all got people in them. And that’s the thing really, there are a lot more people around now than there was a couple of years ago. We noticed the improvement in 2016 when things started to get a little busier for businesses in Gran Alacant, and the good thing is that it is happening gradually, unlike the property boom which started in 2001 and ended so abruptly in 2008. This time the future looks good with sustained and steady growth and more people buying or renting properties in the area, especially Scandinavians who have increased hugely in numbers over the last two years or so. New properties are being built too with almost a thousand under construction at the time of writing, and many of those are being snapped up well before they will be finished. It’s good news for the businesses, and locals, of Gran Alacant and if locals continue to support the businesses in the area then the future looks good for what is, in my opinion, the best place to live on the Costas!

MORE VANDALISM IN GA

Yesterday owners of cars in Calle Monte de Santa Pola (Life Resort Rd) woke up to discover that during the night vandals had broken the door mirrors on 8 cars. This isn’t the first incident and it seems the same offender(s) are causing the damage.

The Local Police have asked us to tell readers to be vigilant and report anything suspicious.

BIN FIRE IN CANARIAS

Doing well - La Cesta

Busy times for Diego at Papeleria Sarai

Another fire in a communal bin happened on the 25th February, this time in Calle Canarias. The fire was eventually extinguished leaving the container melted and needing replacement. Police and the Town Hall ask residents to be vigilant when leaving rubbish at these bins and for people to make sure there are no hot ashes in the rubbish when they place it inside. This is the fifth such event this year already.

CLAIM FOR CANCELLED AND DELAYED FLIGHTS - FROM UP TO 6 YEARS AGO! After living in Gran Alacant (Alicante), Flemming Nörgaard moved back to Denmark in April 2017. While Flemming lived in Spain, he was employed by an airline with an office in

Torrevieja. The job consisted of answering all claims for compensation received by the airline from passengers who had experienced a delay with their flight of more than 3 hours or if it had been cancelled. Flemming could see that only about 15%

Gran Alacant News

of all passengers entitled to compensation (of up to 600€) actually claimed the money. Many do not because they do not know the law regarding delays or cancellations, and at the same time many airlines have made it very difficult for passengers to find out how to claim compensation. Therefore, one of the first things that Flemming did when returning to Denmark was to launch the company Flight Friend, which helps all people, regardless of nationality, to claim any money they are entitled to from the airline. Flemming, who is 49, naturally speaks Danish but also English, German and Spanish as well as understanding Norwegian and Swedish. If you meet Flemming in Gran Alacant, where he is often staying, and you have questions about delays or cancellations, please do not hesitate to contact him. He will answer and help you. Important to know for all Britons is that, as a British citizen, you can seek compensation going back 6 years. You can read more about Flight Friend on their homepage www.flight-friend.com where you will find information in all the languages; English, Danish, Spanish, German and Swedish

With reference to the comments and images that have been provided on accessibility in Gran Alacant, the Town Hall is currently carrying out technical inspections, as well as actions by the municipal works service, with the aim of adapting the accessibility conditions in urbanised public spaces in the area. As for the containers located next to crossings, the Town Hall has already made changes in the location of those that were an obstacle or prevented visibility in cases where there has been evidence so far. On the other hand, regarding the limited width of certain pavements, the modification of them would entail a much broader economic budget than is available. However, at the Town Hall will try to assess this type of action regarding the width and

layout of the pavements. We want to remember that the Town Hall of Santa Pola has launched a strategic city plan, the Pla Ciutat SantaPolavant, with the aim of finding solutions to this type of problem with measures aimed at the modification, adaptation and improvement of certain aspects of our town, adapted to the needs of the population. This is a process in which both politicians and the others involved must participate, through the use of citizen participation and joint decision-making. From the page of the Pla Ciutat (www.santapolavant.es) all the information has been made available to the citizens to participate in any of the processes.

Yolanda Seva, Mayoress of Santa Pola Dear Señora Seva,

many thanks for your reply and for making the effort to get the bins moved. However, all you have achieved, as we stated in the article, is to create parking spaces where the bins were – which solves nothing. As you can see from our image taken on Sunday 25th February, it is still impossible for drivers to see children, disabled etc, and vice-versa. When will this be resolved? As you state in your reply anything blocking visibility is a safety issue but nothing seems to have been considered about our point of removing parking spaces next to crossings. We look forward to your reply.

SOME-FIN IN THE WATER!

REPAIR OF WATER LEAK IN AVDA MEDITERRANEO

A dead 400lb bluntnose shark found its way to Santa Pola last week. The monster fish was seen floating in the water by locals walking the beach who then alerted the authorities. A truck with a crane was sent by the council as there was no other way of getting the shark off the beach where it had been dragged ashore by

February 21st saw the closure of one lane of Avda Mediterraneo, from the Consum roundabout up to the Post Office, for repairs to a pipeline that carries the drinking water network around the area. The leak was found at the sharp bend (where drivers often jump off like lemmings) just at the height of the grade change before the curve. It was a pipe that was buried at very deep under the current road, because of modifications carried out previously in the layout of the road so that the curve was less pronounced. The repair work began early and ran into the following day leaving some homes on Calles Belgium, Holland and Luxembourg with low pressure for 48 hours, however, the water company assure the leak was found and succesfully repaired

MARCH DEADLINE FOR MODELO 720

IMMIGRANTS RETURN TO SPAIN AFTER SEVEN YEARS OF DECLINE

GRAN ALACANT

With financial expert Dave Diggle C.A.T. DipFA

Modelo 720 asset reporting - by 31st March 2018

A final reminder to those RESIDENTS with OVERSEAS ASSETS WORTH MORE THAN €50,000 in the following categories: 1)Cash, deposits, ISAs 2)Property 3)Financial Assets (investments AND pensions) Here is an example which applies to either of the above categories:If you have a joint account of £92,000 x 1.13 = €103,960 ÷ 2 = €51,980 each – you must declare. (This is an example exchange rate and probably not the exact one your Gestoria will use). If you filed a form last year and assets have not increased by more than €20,000 you do not not need to file a new one. Non-disclosure of Information Should the Spanish Tax authorities dis-

Gran Alacant News

cover that you have assets of cumulative value of over €50,000 in any of these groups and deem that you wilfully have not disclosed this information the penalties imposed are a minimum of €10,000 per asset group with a further €5,000 per piece of missing information. With regards to the Modelo 720 there is no statute of limitations on how many years they can go back. I won’t pretend that I don’t find this requirement an intrusion, if not impertinent, and it does make me question whether most of us foreigners would have moved here if we had understood the idiosyncrasies of Spanish law and extremely punitive fines for omitting information. Spanish Compliant Investments Those of you with Spanish Compliant Investments do not need to report on those investments held, as the product providers will meet the reporting requirements. This is so much easier for you than reporting and detailing non-compliant individual investments on a form. It could therefore be worth the effort to exchange your overseas investments or cash for compliant products, especially if your cash is not earning any interest. Unfortunately, life has become complicated but a few informed choices will eliminate some stress for you. David Diggle C.A.T., DipFA, info@daviddiggle.es tel 865751713 www.daviddiggle.es

Spain has become a net recipient of migration once again. In 2016, more people came to live here than left the country – a trend not seen since 2009, when the economic crisis scared away both Spaniards and foreign residents. As a result, for the first time in five years the population of Spain has seen a rise. On January 1, 2017 the figure stood at 46.53 million, a 0.19% increase from the previous year, according to numbers released by the National Statistics Institute (INE). Immigrant arrivals in Spain peaked in the early 2000s, during the economic boom derived from the real estate bubble. But the influx ended abruptly in 2009, the last year when immigrant arrivals exceeded departures. And it was not just foreigners who went back home – a lot of Spaniards also decided to go abroad in search of job opportunities.

At the height of the crisis, in 2013, Spain lost a quarter of a million inhabitants this way. Since then, immigration has started to pick up speed again while emigration slowed down. In 2015, more foreigners settled in Spain than those who left, but the number of emigrating Spaniards resulted in net emigration, even though it was by a small margin. Last year, for the first time since 2009, the trend was reverted: net migration was positive, showing a figure of 89,126 people. The data for 2016 shows the most intense immigration since 2008: 417,033 new arrivals. Of these, 85% were foreigners, while 15% were returning Spaniards. In 2016, 354,461 foreign nationals settled down in Spain, while 241,795 left. The main country of origin is Venezuela, where a profound political and economic crisis has pushed nearly 30,000 people out of the country and into Spain. Just under 2,000 returned to Venezuela last year, leaving a net figure of 27,674 in favour of Spain.

What happens during PRX –T33 session? First of all, the skin is cleaned. The product is then applied in small quantities to the treated zone, and is massaged into the skin until it is fully absorbed. This application is repeated until the desired effect is obtained (clearly fuller skin). The product will be applied zone by zone until the entire surface to be treated has been covered. Any residues of the gel are removed by a water-soaked cotton pad; the skin will appear smoother, and plumper straight away. A generous dose of a nourishing, hydrating cream is applied.

Gran Gran Alacant Alacant News News Issue Issue no.no. 5 6- Friday - Friday February March 2nd 16th2018 2018

A letter every man over 60 should read Dear men over the age of 60, I am writing this to you with anger in my head and my heart. Last week I went on a blind date. It was the first time I had seen someone since my husband died seven years ago. I’m a 62-year-old woman and a younger friend had set me up with a 63-year-old man. I went into the date feeling confident, albeit a little wary of what was going to unfold, but I hadn’t come close to anticipating what happened. I was told straight out that he would never date me seriously. When I asked why, thinking it was some kind of joke, he looked at me straight in the eye and said, older women aren’t fun… And he winked. I stood up and walked straight out. Why do older men believe that women of the same age aren’t worthy of them? Why do they believe that women in their 60s aren’t fun? And more importantly, why haven’t they ever looked in a mirror? Yesterday I read an article about the 60-year-old American Apparel underwear model, Jacky O’Shaughnessy. The beauty was picked up in New York and handed a modelling contract last year – the same year that her partner turned to her, told he she looks too old and said he’s embarrassed to be seen in public with her. You see I fail to see how we’re different. I can’t see why you seem to put yourselves above us and lump us in a “no good” category. We don’t advertise for men with large pockets, fit bodies and dazzling smiles. We want friendship and fun – so why can’t we make it work together? 40 years ago you would have jumped at the opportunity to spend time together and make friendships or more, so what has changed? It’s all well and good to want someone younger, prettier and fitter than the over 60 women, but you have to remember

LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN!

10 Things Older Men Shouldn’t Do. 10. Wear thongs & Speedos: After 50 the ravages of time and gravity have worked their magic on men. The speedo brings to light the ground-zero zones of this. Men over 50 should never wear speedos unless it is for an athletic competition. 9. Say things like “dude,” or “whatever” 8. Send emails work emails with emoticons: Sending an email that reads, “Sorry your investment went belly up this quarter, :(…” does not. Take a hint old man, no one is going to give you a hard time for actually acting your age. 7. Attempt to wear leather pants. Yes, we know these are hard to get out, but

unless you are Mick Jagger you must avoid these.

– you’re not necessarily young, fit and handsome either and expecting that while disregarding us is rude and absurd. Although I didn’t have my heart broken, that blind date made me feel so much hurt that I was a write off from the outset. To all men over the age of 60 throughout the world, if you’re going to label us, just remember that we and the younger generation, can do the same to you. Regards, A woman over 60.

6. Eat too much white chocolate: Dark chocolate has beneficial antioxidants which can help reduce inflammation and, in the process, your risk for heart disease and other problems. But white chocolate is mostly vegetable fat and added sugar. For instance, one ounce of white chocolate can have 153 calories — with roughly half of those calories coming from fat — and contain 17 grams (g) of sugar and 2g of protein. 5. Ponytails (unless you are Willie Nelson): Yes fellas…..We know you’re bald under there, You’re not fooling anyone.

The European Commission has suggested that British drivers may well be stopped from driving on the continent following Brexit because UK driving licences may no longer be recognised by member countries. A failure bringing together a deal on transport during the negotiations would see the recognition of licences among member countries no longer valid and would mean drivers could possibly be unable to drive or get insurance. On Thursday 22nd February the European Commission issued the warning using presentation slides released just a few hours before Theresa May and her Brexit ‘war’ Cabinet were due to meet at Chequers to sort out the details for the UK’s final negotiating position.

4. Don’t tell younger women that you know famous people: Unless you are a famous person yourself, they won’t believe you. 3. Don’t pretend to be younger than you are: Embrace your age and wisdom. Plus, they will look at the backs of your hands. 2. Avoid Boxing: When pro boxer Thomas Hearns announced at age 50 that he was looking for another bout, even his own trainer would not supp o r t the move. 1. Do not wear Just about Johnny Depp is wearing nowadays.

KNOWING WHAT’S BEST All those of us who watch football ‘know what’s best,’ don’t we? Except, apparently, the managers, which is why there is such a turnover. Any Real Madrid fan will tell you that Karim Benzema is not worth his place in the side, that young Asensio should be a regular member of the team, and that they should have flogged the fragile Bale when they had a good offer. But Zidane still trades on last season’s great success, and will, eventually, pay the price. The price,

WHAT’S IN A NAME?

however, as the tedious José Mourinho will tell you, is no fiscal burden. Contracts being what they are, clubs are bound to pay huge sums to their ‘sacked’ managers upon release. Said Sr. Mourinho is unlikely to last much longer at Manchester United, as their City rivals, managed by Pep Guardiola (who has gone a little quiet about Catalan independence lately!) head them by a country mile. The quiet, unassuming Ernesto Valverde seems to be doing very well at Barcelona, helped a little by their having spent astronomical sums of money recently, and it is good to see Marcelino turning things around at Valencia, without the aid of glittering stars. Coming into the European reckoning almost unnoticed, however, are little Eibar, with their tiny stadium, proving that, rather like Leicester City did a couple of years ago in England, an unfancied club can still make it.

Leningrado

The Spanish language is especially good at mangling foreign names. Take the British royals: Elizabeth is Isabel, Charles is Carlos, William is Guilliermo, Harry is Enrique and Katherine is Catalina. But before the Brits start to crow, the English language has Fernando as Ferdinand, and El Papa as the Pope, to name but a few. And both languages are harsh on placenames. Londres and Edinburgo, Nuevo York and Ciudad del Cabo (Cape Town) are examples, but we are in agreement over München, which Spanish and English both call Munich. Somehow, English has managed to transcribe Braunschweig into Brunswick, but how on earth Spanish has got Maguncia out of Mainz I can’t imagine. Spanish just sticks an ‘o’ on the end of Russian place-names, hence Leningrado, but manages to confuse folk by calling Latvia ‘Letonia’ – remarkably similar to neighbouring Lituania. Italian names come in for some rough treatment, Firenze becoming Florence or Florencia, English finding it necessary to change Roma

into Rome. In Spain, I suppose none of the above should surprise anyone: looking at a list of football teams recently in some Valenciano newspaper, I was surprised to find that ‘Osca’ headed division two. (Huesca, no less!)

HOROSCOPES Aries March 21-April 20 Communications, mental energy and social events are accented over the next few days. Beginning early Monday, and lasting over the next four days, expect new gossip in your social circle. Taurus April 21-May 20 Lovers and close friends will be highly sensitive over the next few days: expect others to act and react based on past events or incorrect assumptions. Although disjointed, this is a time of positive emotional growth. Gemini May 21-June 21 Friends and close family members will now offer support. Over the past few days discussions with relatives and friends may have been riddled with underlying stresses or tension. Now, however, and over the next few weeks. Cancer June 22-July 22 Social events may be emotionally revealing early this week. Romantic flirtations, withheld feelings and underlying opinions will now be easily expressed: expect others to focus on unusual details. Leo July 22-August 22 Insights into the character or private motives of a business partner will be compelling this week. Your wisdom will be much admired over the next few days; respond quickly to requests for advice from authority figures. Virgo August 23-September 22 Avoid excessive workplace gossip early this week. Aspects indicate that friends and colleagues may now be enmeshed in a difficult emotional triangle. Key issues will involve power struggles between co-workers.

Scorpio October 24-November 22 Home relationships will work in your favor before mid-week: early Monday afternoon watch for a subtle but important breakthrough with a close friend, roommate or relative. Key issues may be common future goals. Sagittarius Nov 23-December 21 Early this week a listless and self-reflective mood arrives. Allow for some emotional indulgence here; important romantic decisions may now require extra time. Capricorn December 22-January 20 Early Monday morning expect business associates, partners or bosses to demand detailed explanations of recent paperwork or documents. Small facts and figures may now become extremely important in the workplace. Aquarius January 21-February 19 Before mid-week watch for the arrival of a powerful atmosphere of romantic attraction to arrive. Over the next few weeks many Aquarians will experience a sharp increase in sensuality. Pisces February 20-March 20 Social timing and diplomacy are important before mid-week: late Tuesday afternoon watch for loved ones or close friends to introduce new relationships, romantic options or social plans.

WHO’S THE KING OF THE CASTLES?

tian. Of these, the most impressive is the great keep, the Torre de Homenaje, standing more than 200 feet high. La Mola, Novelda: Sitting on top of a small hill just 360 metres above sea level is another fine castle built by the Moors in the late 12th century. It was built in the shape of a polygon but only four of the eight turrets survived. It is unique in that it is the only fortress on the Iberian peninsula to have a triangular tower which was added by the Christians in the late 14th century.

Wherever you go in Spain, you’re sure to come across the most eye-catching castles imaginable. Even many small villages have a mighty fortress standing high on a hilltop and serving as a reminder of the region’s rich history. It’s thanks to the Moors that Spain has so many beautiful fortresses, which they built to protect themselves after conquering the country in 711. You’ll find more than 100 castles, watchtowers and bastions in the Alicante province but here’s five top landmarks near Gran Alacant. Santa Barbara Castle in Alicante: The most obvious place to start is Alicante itself. This mighty iconic landmark standing on Mount Benacantil has impressive views across Alicante city and the sea. Alicante’s castle dates originally from the Roman period and has guarded the city for centuries. If you stand by Postiguet beach and

look up at the castle, you’ll see a Moor’s face carved in the rock. Legend has it that this is the face of Ali, who fell in love with Princess Cantara. But, alas, it was not to be. Forbidden to be with the man she loved, the princess flung herself from the castle. Ali followed suit and it’s his melancholic face etched forever in the rocks. They are now also united for all time in the city’s name, Alicante.

Santa Pola castle: An impressive 16th century Renaissance fortress built at sea level, means it’s not back-breaking work to visit this attraction. Originally built to defend the town against pirates, it fell into disrepair and in 1855 an order was made to demolish it. Thankfully, the town’s officials stepped in and this fine building was given over to the town council, which has preserved and expanded it. Santa Pola castle now houses a chapel, exhibition centre and a maritime museum as well as providing an amazing – and authentic - backdrop for the Moors and Christians festivities.

La Atalaya in Villena: When you dream of castles, they often end up looking like this. This is one of the best-preserved castles in Alicante province – which is saying something – and dates from the late 11th century with the role to defend the surrounding fertile agricultural lands. The outer wall of the castle is defended by 12 towers with another magnificent tower over four floors in the interior - the first two floors were built by the Muslims while the others are Chris-

Palacio de Altamira in Elche: Another impressive fortress is the Altamira castle, next to the municipal park, originally built in the 12th century and renovated in the 15th century. Whilst in recent times it has been used as a fabric plant, the town hall, and a prison during the Spanish Civil War, now it’s a fitting home for the archaeology and history museum. It’s another castle at ground level, meaning it’s easy to wander through here before heading to the palm groves.

ON TV

Coming to Netflix in March

Love (Season 3) The third run of this Judd Apatow comedy will sadly be its last. Available 13th Ricky Gervais: Humanity A new special in which the comedian chats about aging, becoming spoiled, and having kids. (Likely no sign of David Brent.)

Available 3rd B: The Beginning (Season 1) A future-set anime in which a serial killer

runs rampant and “new humans” are kidnapped for evil purposes. Flint Town (Season 1) Coming in the wake of its 2014 water crisis, when thousands of residents were exposed to lead, this eight-episode series evaluates the Michigan city and its efforts to rebound. Available 8th Marvel’s Jessica Jones (Season 2) Trish really likes guns this season. Ladies First This documentary chronicles the unlikely rise of world-famous archer Deepika Kumari. Available 9th

Available 16th Edha (Season 1) Betrayals and hidden agendas fuel this engrossing story about a trendsetting designer and her untraditional muse in Buenos Aires. On My Block (Season 1) Another of the red streaming service’s new teen series -- this one about a group of kids coming of age and navigating the pressures of a rough inner city high school. It comes from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich and All Eyez On Me writers Eddie Gonzalez and Jeremy Haft, so you can expect a good balance of heart and humor. Take Your Pills This documentary will discuss the rise of Adderall and other prescription stimulants. Wild Wild Country (Season 1) The Duplass brothers helped produce this crazy docu-series -- which came highly recommended from Sundance -- about Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh, The New Man, and a bunch of pissed-off Oregon cowboys.

SPORTS REPORT

By Malcolm Palmer

CROWD VIOLENCE I was tempted to head this ‘football violence,’ but what have those disgraceful scenes outside Bilbao’s San Mames stadium to do with football? The great game is merely used as an excuse by some of the more tawdry elements in our society to indulge in their desire for a fight. But why? Why, oh why, do some people need to fight? I remember, as a young man, working in the construction industry, a few pints at a Christmas party (which prompted me to tell daft jokes, then want to go to sleep) would trigger off a monumental scrap, often resulting in the wrecking of the premises, and subse-

quent wholesale sackings. And now, we see images of whole bands of Russian thugs training – yes, actually training – to kick seven bells out of the opposition. (who are not, let’s face it, that much better!) It seems that practically all clubs have groups of so-called supporters who call themselves ‘Ultras’ – a euphemism for extreme right wing thugs – who have no right to be on football grounds at all, and besmirch the name of what is a beautiful game. Perhaps the best solution would be to give them their own battlefields, where they could meet their opposing testosterone-charged bands in a fight to the death. That way, we may whittle down gradually the numbers involved. Meanwhile, I do worry about the forthcoming World Championships – in Russia.

ELCHE CF & HERCULES HAVE ANOTHER ROUGH WEEKEND Elche see points slip away with last-minute goal Elche were on target to get a useful away point on their travels to Ontinyent until a slip-up in the final minute gave the game away. For the 500-plus travelling fans, it was a cruel defeat. The franjiverde had held the home team to a goalless draw until the 93rd minute when Leonardo got his head to a ball from a throw-in which landed in the back of the net. Until that moment, a draw had seemed a fair result for both sides who were evenly matched with few chances created by either side. Elche had the best opportunity of the game when Benja’s volley went just wide. The visitors were a man down for the final 20 minutes after Sory Kaba received a second yellow and was sent off. Despite the setback, Elche remain third on 44

points. They will be hoping for a better result at home next week when they face Llagostera.

Close rivals Hercules did not fare much better, although they managed to get a point in their goalless home draw against Villarreal B. The scoreline doesn’t do justice to the squad whose fortunes have looked up since the arrival of Josip Visnjic. Although both sides created good chances, the blanquiazules had the egde and controlled for much of the game. This was one of their best encounters this season with a strong defence and an all-out attack from the first whistle. In the first half, Juli had a shot deflected, Paco Candela went for goal with his cross-shot and Chechu Flores was also unsuccessful in his attempt on goal. In the second half, Juli hit the back of the net but was ruled offside. This new, invigorated Hercules found favour with the 8,000 fans who got right behind their team. They are now six points off the play-off places with 11 finals still to be played.
