Odd Things on Google Earth

ODD GARDEN IMAGES FOUND ON GOOGLE EARTH A PERSONAL SELECTION BY DAVE HAMBIDGE If one has the time and energy, there are some strange sights to be found on Google Earth, the free satellite imaging system. Please let me share nine of my favourites with you? COMPILED AUGUST 2009

Space Rocket in Bogotá, Colombia 4°39'35.97"N 74° 5'21.25"W

A simpler one to get the eyes tuned in. A comic-book rocket; (but note the real aeroplane in a back garden, top left of centre).

Smiley and gargoyle in Longleat, England 51째11'13.17"N2째16'26.44"W

Another fairly easy one to see

(Or is it supposed to be the moon and sun?)

Garden snail in Bremen, Germany 53째 5'44.54"N 8째52'50.66"E

This huge representation of a gardeners sometime friend spans about 100 metres.

(if in doubt, head to right, shell in centre, got it?)

Butterfly in Utrecht, Holland 52째 5'18.17"N 5째10'23.60"E

Measuring around 200 metres in length, you may need to concentrate to see the five legs at lower centre, the three circle-patched wing above and head to left with proboscis to far left.

(fancy trying to catch that...)

Brooding chicken in Geneva, Switzerland

46°13'29.35”N 6°08'47.73”E

Sitting with its tail to the left and beak to right, this contented looking chicken covers some 140 metres from crown to rump.

(One egg would make enough scramblers for a whole street...)

Eyeball sectioned at Getty Museum, California 34째 4'35.99"N 118째28'27.89"W

In almost anatomically correct detail, this water garden 'keeps an eye on things' in Los Angeles.

(front of eye to left, optic nerve to right... if you want to check, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Eye-diagram_no_circles_border.svg)

Tiara in Ootacamund, India 11째25'12.89"N 76째42'47.27"E

A seemingly jewel encrusted crown with green front-piece rests on the ground.

(Who lost it?)

Bundle of balloons in Hamburg, Germany 53째33'47.83"N 9째51'42.50"E

Currently my favourite, a large 'handful' of children's balloons about 250 metres in diameter.

(even the strings are gathered at the bottom, excellent...)

A question from Salaspils, Latvia 56°51'41.53”N 24°21'10.09”E
