Safety Guidance System
What is a Safety Guidance System? A safety guidance system aims at guiding persons out of the building as fast and safely as possible. A photoluminescent safety guidance system enhances the escape speed and orientation. It thereby ensures safe and fast escape from the dangerous area (e.g. in case of smoke development).
This objective of protection can be realized in a profitable way by means of the photoluminescent safety guidance system. It includes photoluminescent guidance strips, signs and markings. The luminous pigments are excited by daylight or the general lighting and release the stored energy in the darkness as greenish yellow light.
This, all possible obstacles in the escape route are clearly visible and do no longer present a danger. In case of power failure, the information required at this moment is given by the guidance strips. As this marking is mainly fastened near the floor, it is also still visible in case of smoke development.
In case of a photoluminescent safety guidance system near the floor, the shortest escape route out of the building is marked clearly and continuously (instructions in this respect can be found in ISO 16069). These guidance strips are complemented by signs according to ISO 7010 which are fastened at face level. Obstacles in the escape route such as protruding edges or steps are to be marked, too.
By dividing the flow of persons evenly, the main escape routes are relieved, as fleeing people almost always want to take the same way out of the building as in. The fleeing person has the comforting feeling of being guided out the building as quickly as possible and is thereby relieved psychically.

Optical safety guidance systems on shore, at sea, and in the air (aircrafts) entail highest demands on design and functionality. At the same time, the lighting conditions on the spot require a photoluminescent product which is convincing regarding its luminance and loading speed and satisfies the legal requirements (ISO, IMO, FAA) at the place of use at any time. The guidance marking for photoluminescent safety way guidance systems must have a minimum width of 5 cm. The minimum width of stripes can be reduced to 2.5 cm when the luminance after 10 min is not less than 100 mcd /m2 and after 60 min is not less than 15 mcd /m2.

Way Guidance Marking
Do you know where the next escape route is? In emergencies every second counts. Until the arrival of the emergency services, all people have to be evacuated. The work protection regulations, may go significantly beyond the building law requirements. A risk analysis may provide information in this respect. For further information on the execution of a risk analysis, please refer to www.everglow.de.
There are different standards regarding the design of photoluminescent safety way guidance systems, which are included in the planning and installation of safety way guidance systems as technical rules. In particular, DIN 67510 Part 3 describes the German state of the art technology regarding safety way guidance systems. On the international level, the standard ISO 16069 specifies safety way guidance systems. In order to evaluate the products regarding their lighting suitability, the standard ISO 17398 further requires the manufacturer to provide additional information on the luminance for specified excitation scenarios. a) Excitation with standard illuminant D65 for 20 minutes at 200 Lux b) Excitation with fluorescent lamp (4,300 K) for 15 minutes at 50 Lux c) Excitation with fluorescent lamp (3,000 K) for 15 minutes at 25 Lux

EverGlow® C 150
C means Color and 150 corresponds to the proven HI 150 quality 150 mcd/m² after 10 minutes with a decay time of 35 hours. Daylight fluorescent and photoluminescent. The combination of these two materials results in a perfect compound featuring two advantages: High signaling effect during the day and at night in order to make danger spots such as breaks of wall or columns clearly visible. Incident light excites fluorescent materials whereby light waves of the same length or longer waves are emitted – contrary to phosphorescent materials which phosphoresce after incident light radiation. Fluorescent materials require light to develop their signaling effect while phosphorescent materials phosphoresce when the light is off.

Coatings
Photoluminescent Coating Systems for Safety Way Guidance Systems according to ISO 16069. Where highest toughness and abrasion resistance of floor markings is required, our coating systems provide the perfect solution. System F is a solvent-free 2-component epoxy resin system which is recommended for surface marking and lines. In order to increase the shelf life, the luminescent pigment is supplied in a separate container. The material can be roll-coated or flat-coated. We recommend a white primer for utmost luminance. The average drying time amounts to about 8 h.

Arrow stencil made of aluminum for markings Aluminum stencils are perfectly suitable for photoluminescent floor markings. The low weight and recessed grip permit quick and clean working. A new generation of pigments and a novel pigment layer coating combine the high luminance of our HI 300 products with an up to threefold faster loading time. Phosphorescent pigments, Semi-finished products
Colored luminous pigments from EverGlow Pigments are not toxic or radioactive.
The photoluminescent pigments have numerous indoor and outdoor uses. For example, for decoration, creating effects, stage marking or as a raw material for phosphorescent inks. In daylight with intrinsic color, the pigments glow in the dark (after exposure to daylight or artificial light). The duration and intensity of exposure have significant impact on the strength and duration of the afterglow. The exposure can be repeated as often as desired without the effects being reduced. The colors are generally intermixable.
The phosphorescent pigments are in accordance with DIN 67510 standards and can be used safely without harming human health. In any case, it is recommended to always use a white reflective coating as a primer for luminescent colors in order to greatly enhance the luminosity.
