Ballyseede Castle, one of the best known Castle Hotels in Ireland, has a history dating back to the 1590’s. Set in 30 acres of native woodland, Ballyseede has been wonderfully transformed into a luxury hotel for you to enjoy. One of the most unique & special luxury Tralee Hotels, this Castle Hotel offers you formal and casual dining, 23 en-suite bedrooms and three beautiful private rooms complimented by enchanting formal gardens.
Tralee hoteliers, restaurateurs and chefs are well aware that as well as quality food at reasonable prices, a warm, authentic atmosphere is an essential ingredient in the food tourism recipe. People are looking for authenticity, they want to experience the local culture of a place and when it comes to food, the provenance of ingredients is really important. Story-telling is critical as it gives tourists a real sense of place. This is what will set Tralee apart from other destinations.
We love families and children to enjoy the relaxing environment of Ballyseede Castle. Our Castle Hotel Family Rooms offer comfort, security and great value for money for families wishing to enjoy a Castle getaway Mr. Higgins the Irish Wolfhound is always playful while his sidekick Einstein is up for fun and loves catching stones. Along with the resident dogs there are native Irish donkeys and Farabella Horses. They take their holidays in winter in bad weather - good for them! At Kerry’s only Castle Hotel, the one star AA Rosette Awarded O’Connell Restaurant is unique for serving beautiful food in magnificent surroundings. Whether it is a five course scrumptious dinner or sitting by the fire in Paddy’s Bar, dining is a must when it comes to Ballyseede Castle. Our chefs prepare the most exquisite foods, sourced locally and presented with all the flair and extravagance expected from a castle experience. Refined Irish cuisine using locally sourced seasonal ingredients is complemented by an extensive list of fine wines and spirits. Leebrook, Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland

Tralee is the capital town of County Kerry, Ireland’s most popular tourism destination. Once you’ve finished exploring all the magnificent attractions in Tralee, a visit to some of the other jewels in the Kingdom’s crown will round off your trip in great style. Ring of Kerry Base yourself in Tralee and visit the Ring of Kerry, a road that takes you through 10,000 years of dramatic history. It’s a road that takes you from deep forest to the crashing waters of the wild Atlantic. It’s a road through rugged, majestic landscapes: where wild stag roam and where tumbling waterfalls crash into crystal streams teeming with wild salmon. Along the road you’ll visit picturesque locations such as Killarney, Kenmare, Sneem, Waterville, Caherciveen, Killorglin and Valentia Island. The Dingle Peninsula: Corca Dhuibhne The Dingle Peninsula starts in Tralee and stretches 48km into the Atlantic Ocean from Ireland’s south-west coast. The peninsula is dominated by the range of mountains that form its spine, running from the Slieve Mish range to Mount Brandon, Ireland’s second highest peak. The coastline consists of steep sea-cliffs, broken by sandy beaches, with two large sand spits at Inch in the south and the Maharees to the north. The Blasket Islands lie to the west of the peninsula. Be sure to keep an eye out for Fungie the Dingle dolphin or even some Jedi Knights who may have stayed behind after the filming of scenes from Star Wars in Ceann Sibéal.
Ballybunion Ballybunion is Kerry’s premier seaside family resort with miles of blue flag sandy beaches, cliff walks, seaweed baths, surfing, equestrian facilities, pubs and fine dining. The world famous Ballybunion Golf Club plays host to many famous visitors each year. Ballybunion is an ancient and inviting town, enjoyed by young and old alike.
Skelligs The Skellig Islands, Skellig Michael and Small Skellig, stand aloof in the Atlantic Ocean some 12km southwest of Valentia Island, County Kerry. From any angle, or from any vantage point on the nearby Ring of Kerry, they are spectacular pinnacles, which have magnetised viewers throughout all history - and beyond. These Skellig islands are world-famous, each in its own right: Skellig Michael is known throughout the world of archaeology as the site of a wellpreserved monastic outpost of the Early Christian period – now designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It became famous more recently for featuring in the latest Star Wars movies. Small Skellig is equally renowned in matters of ornithology as the home of some 27,000 pairs of gannets – the second largest colony of such seabirds in the world.

Tralee Town Park (Irish: Páirc Bhaile Thrá Lí) is a public park known locally as “The Green”. Covering an area of 35 acres it is one of the largest urban public parks in Ireland. It is located in the heart of the town, off Denny Street and adjacent to the Kerry County Museum. It is also the home of Ireland’s National Folk Theatre, Siamsa Tíre.
History The park is situated on the site of the old castle demesne which was built by the Denny family in the 17th and 18th Century. In 1826 the castle was demolished to make way for the construction of Denny Street. Edward Denny subsequently landscaped the area remaining from the castle by planting trees, laying down gravel paths and constructing an ornamental grotto. A gatekeeper’s lodge was also built on “The Green”. In 1889 Edward died and the Denny family sold “The Green” to Henry Clements-Finnerty. Around this time “The Green” was offered to the Town Commissioners but they refused to purchase the park. Subsequently fencing and gates were erected around the park’s perimeter (still seen to this day) and a charge to the public for admission into the park was introduced. In 1922 “The Green” was sold to Tralee Urban District Council and it officially became Tralee Town Park.
44
The park is famous for its Rose Garden and Garden of the Senses which have won numerous awards. The Rose Garden has been a feature of the park since 1987 and contains 35 varieties of roses over a three acre site. The Garden of the Senses was designed to appeal to the five senses and to be inviting to all members of society. The project was inspired by Soroptimist International Tralee & District, under its then President Maura Baily, in 2000. The garden places strong emphasis on ancient Hanley history of Ireland.
Monuments A statue commemorating the original Rose of Tralee Mary O’Connor who was immortalised in the famous ballad by William Pembroke Mulchinock, was unveiled in August 2009. The life size bronze statue, commissioned by Tralee Town Council as part of the 50th anniversary of the Rose of Tralee Festival and sculpted by renowned Irish sculptor Jeanne Rynhart is located in the park’s famous Rose Garden. The figures were modelled in the Rynhart Gallery in Ballylickey, County Cork and cast at the Connolly Foundry in Kilbaha, County Clare. The Rose Wall cradles the Rose of Tralee Statue. It was erected in 2013, the year of The Gathering, and features the names of every woman who has taken part in the Rose of Tralee International Festival since it began in 1959.
