A Knowledge Transfer Partnership is a programme between a Company and a University who work together and develop innovative projects that are strategically important to the companies future direction. These partnerships can cover any area of the business, where companies could benefit from additional expertise or added knowledge. The University can provide access to the expertise, resources and experience, and then help apply them in a practical environment to help the business to develop. Knowledge Transfer is achieved by employing one or more Graduates, also called ‘Associates’, to work on a strategical project. The Associate will help in the process of ‘Knowledge Transfer’, and will work withtin the company, under supervision of a Senior Manager, who becomes the ‘Industrial Supervisor’.

We search & develop
A member of the University staff is then chosen to act as an ‘Academic Supervisor’, and will have the expertise and experience that is relevant to the projects needs. They will maintain frequent contact with the Associate, and the company, throughout the entire duration of the project. The Associate is employed by the University, but works for the company. The Associate will ‘act and feel’ like a company employee, and they will work under the supervision of the Industrial and Academic Associates until the project is completed.

Your wishes, granted
Companies that undergo the KTP Programme only have to pay 33% of the project costs*. Each Partnership is part funded by a Government grant, with a budget of ÂŁ111,000**. This grant covers the employment costs of one or more Associates, and provisions like equipment and travel costs. The amount of grant is determined by the number of KTP Associates employed, the length of the project, and the size of the company. Nearly all companies could benefit from a KTP Programme. A company with as few as 5 employees are eligible for the scheme.

Company Benefits
The programme can create new products and markets for the business, and the transfer of knowledge and the technology can provide the training and development of the company staff to continue this new project into the future. These programs are for all companies wishing to develop their businesses even further, but do not have the expertise and resources to do so, and the schemes are not just for manufacturing companies. The programme will be reviewed on a regular basis, to ensure the aims and targets of the company are achieved. Businesses can benefit from the knowledge and resources of the University and its staff throughout the duration of the programme. This creates closer ties and more opportunities for further development. As a result of the programme, a businesses future direction can be greatly enhanced, and ultimately, the increased profits from the projects can range from ÂŁ98,000 (small companies) to ÂŁ500,000 (larger companies). *Companies under 250 employees **1 Associate - 2year Partnership 04
