Welcome
I couldn’t think of a better way to showcase the talent of our authors and award-winning team than this catalogue of brilliant books.
Putting together a frontlist programme of this strength is no mean feat. The trust that our authors place in us is an honour that we do not take lightly, and every person who plays a part in bringing their books to market does so with this awesome responsibility at the forefront of our minds. Our aim is simply to delight readers, as well as to educate, empower and inspire them to broaden their creative skills and deepen their connection to the communities of crafters, artists and nature-lovers that our books serve.
As an illustrated publisher, we would be nothing without the beautiful imagery that characterizes our books. Knitting Peter Rabbit (9781446309674) is a superlative example of this, in which Beatrix Potter’s original watercolour illustrations are combined with magical photography to create a book that will become part of the incredible legacy of this heritage brand. The Art of Landscape Knitting (9781446310052) and Modern Landscape Quilts (9781446309773) took our plucky photographers from the mountains to the woods to the coast to shoot the stunning projects in the landscapes that inspired them. In 100 Micro Amigurumi (9781446309704) the challenge was to get in close and show the scale of the tiniest crochet you’ll ever see, while 50 Makes for Modern Miniatures (9781446309940) required the building and lighting of mini sets that look almost real. The artwork in The Full Moon Yearbook (9781446310632) takes the book to a higher plane and makes it the ultimate gift for lunaphiles, while our two journals this season, Simple Acts of Kindness (9781446310137) and Overcoming Overwhelm (9781446310663), prove that journals can be as beautiful as they are useful.
As well as D&C titles, you also find here books from our trusted partners Dover Publications and Exisle Publishing, both of whom share our values and insistence on quality. I hope that you enjoy browsing the books available this season and that your customers will find as much delight in reading them as we had in making them.

GARDENER’S FOLKLORE THE ANCIENT SECRETS FOR GARDENING MAGIC
This delightfully written book shows just what people have believed – and still believe – will help their plants grow. Filled with gardening lore gleaned from the people who had the greenest of thumbs, Gardener’s Folklore explores and celebrates our rural origins and offers plenty of gardening tips to use today.
First published in 1976, Gardener’s Folklore collects the little bits of magic and myth to be found in the gardens of Britain and North America. Compiled from letters sent by gardeners to the author Margaret Baker, it unravels and documents the mysterious sayings and scraps of knowledge that are passed down through generations, while exploring the science of the time that backed up - or in some cases, didn’t - the claims that were made.

BOTANICAL TERMS AND THEIR MEANING
Precise naming is essential to be able to identify plants accurately and most gardeners have at least some knowledge of ‘botanical Latin’. But a plant’s full botanical name does much more than give it a unique label. Plant Names Explained is an indispensible guide and makes the subject accessible, enjoyable and fun. It shows not only how plant names work, but also how you can make use of them in entertaining as well as practical ways.
A selective alphabetical listing of botanical names and their explanations is accompanied by features exploring cultivar names, with translations of foreign terms and lists of plants you can link with special occasions and celebrations, or with personal names. Other features highlight the places, people and plant characteristics that lie behind the names: gardens and nurseries, countries and cities, plant hunters and gardeners, colours, characteristics and habitats.

A creative toolbox of techniques and ideas to take painting to a new spiritual dimension. All of nature is permeated by a hidden geometric creative power. From the spiral growth of ferns, fractal branching systems in trees, and symmetries in leaves and flowers: everything in nature is connected and follows universal principles. In this exquisite book, artist Kathleen Hoffman shares her fascination with mandalas, sacred symbols such as the triskelion and the labyrinth, and nature’s endless wonder, through a collection of 12 step-by-step painting projects, accessible to painters of all abilities. Hoffman begins with the basic techniques of acrylic painting and then builds on this with each project, showing new design elements that are used in her pictures and how she implements them in terms of colour and composition. This book is an invitation for readers to connect with the power of nature and symbols, discover the infinite variety of these structures and unfold this beauty in their paintings.
