Fleeting Forms & Space Photographs by David Dong
Project Statement “The Decisive Moment” is a concept coined by French photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson in 1952, and it means to capture fleeting moments of strong visual composition created by different elements of design. Cartier-Bresson’s signature shooting method was to find a visually, pleasing place and wait for something to happen within the frame. Inspired by “The Decisive Moment” and Henri Cartier-Bresson, this research project will result in a photo series entitled Fleeting Forms & Space. This photo series focuses on the passage of time through the interaction of light and shadow within a space or on a subject. Because lighting varies throughout the day and from day to day, the same place or objects may have a different appearance. The goals behind this photo series are to wait and capture the fleeting transformations of space and objects that are caused by the quality of light, and to test “The Decisive Moment” and use it as a photographic method.
