The chosen materials intended to give emphasis to the shower area through a large contrast (black and white), the remaining elements, washbasin and toilet, end up also being part of this contrast.

As a recently graduated architect my first solo project is as small and simple as it can be, it was an opportunity to work directly with the constructor and participate in the construction itself. The objective of this project is to convert a bedroom into a bathroom adapted to the needs of an elderly. One of the prerequisites is to have a big shower tray easily accessible and no bidet.

The washbasin furniture is also designed to give a lot of storage area to clear the rest of the space, creating an ample room making it easy to circulate.

ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO

The core concept of the whole project was due to the prerequisite to design two separate buildings and the necessity to connect a preexisting medieval street (Rua Escura) to the main avenue. The new connection is an axis between the two buildings.

To the south is located the Student Union with its square form inspired in the nearby building projected by the architect Fernando TĂĄvora. The nearest element to the main avenue is part of a small excavated square where all the Student Union services are located. The other element is a multipurpose room with a accessible roof, where you have full visual sense of the project. North to the new axis, is located the student residence, built around a square courtyard. Part of the building in parallel with the avenue, the longest, protects the new public spaces, as this is a very busy road. The main entrance of the building, in white concrete, is marked by a distinctive element, a wooden cube. Upon entry we have access to different types of rooms in the continuation we have single and double modules for teachers which is linked with the rooms for four and eight students. The entrance volume is connected with the longer side of the building through a ramp.

Light Patio

The distinction between public and private space and the non-existing sun exposure of the main façade, facing north, were the main constrains of this project. The main façade and the volumetry of the modules were designed taking these constrains into account. The building fits in the gallery type, given the obvious tendency to be facing the south facade. Because of the street’s slope, the ground floor is occupied with garage and two vertical accesses. The first one is directly connected to the access of the garage and the other to the main entrance. On the facade comes a range of volumetric games, for instance it is intended to have a contrast between verticality and horizontality. It can be seen between the volume, materialized with red tiles, with the elevated platband and the duplicated gallery balcony slabs.

The L-shaped Module creates a light patio which is coated with tiles to increase this effect. The module is divided into two floors. The first, where the entrance is located (accessible from the yard light) you can find a living room, a kitchen and a service bathroom. The second floor is composed with three bedrooms (two facing south and one to the light patio), one bathroom and the laundry room, all of which access from a hall.

ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO

This project is divided into two major parts, a masterplan for the whole area of intervention, and a collective house detailed design.

Urban to Rural

Urban Plannig | Housing program

Manilla | Philippines location

50.000 m2 area

2012 | Academic

The main idea for the design of the masterplan is linked to conditions of physical and social the intervention area, this last is related to the fact that the city of Manilla is one of the densest populated in the world, lacking in public space. With this concern the masterplan was worked from the topography of the land, placing the highest point the buildings with more floors and as the topography falls the number of floors descends also culminating in individual dwellings. The creation of public spaces was also an important key feature in this project, both for the master plan, with the creation of a network of interconnected squares as the character of friend to the people of the streets, as in the design of residential building. This last point is connected to small areas that have social housing in this country, which leads more people to take advantage of outdoor spaces adjacent to houses, so when designing a building in height the creation of open spaces was important. These free spaces are also important for ventilation and refreshment of the building itself. The building was planned from a base module that can later be expanded to twice its original size, from guide lines not disappear in the blanks. As these modules have small areas, a special piece of furniture was thought to be capable of responding to various activities of daily life without having to take up too much space.

Villa AraĂşjo This was one of the projects I was involved while working in the studio AAPB in Portugal. It was my first project completed entirely with Revit Architecture. I have only worked during the construction project phase, although not being part in the design proposal my initial work in this project was to reorganize several interior spaces, principally the bathrooms, kitchen and vertical accesses.

Single Housing program

In this project I was in charge of the compatibility between the various engineering specialties and the architecture.
