Christchurch Cathedral Waterford. The Cathedral of The Holy Trinity (Christchurch), has been a constant presence in Waterford, in one form or another since the 11th century and is the only neoclassical Georgian Cathedral in Ireland and is a fine example of DFL’s ability to restore and conserve existing protected structures. At DFL we have a complete understanding of the construction process and all its nuances, so whilst we may live in a disposable society, we appreciate that our work must stand the test of time.
Refurbishment As well as constructing some of the most modern and advanced buildings in the country, we have also been responsible for the refurbishment of landmark buildings such as Chrischurch Cathedral. DFL were also responsible for the total rewiring and redecoration of De la Salle College which was constructed in the 1880’s Refurbishment doesn’t necessarily mean working with listed buildings either, in that a lot of our work involved expanding, adapting, renovating and modernising or the change of use of existing premises be they shops, factories, pharmaceutical facilities or supermarkets etc.

In fact DFL is renowned for it’s ability to work within existing commercial and industrial facilities with the minimum disruption and interference with client’s production or retailing activities. Hence as you will see from our commercial, retail and pharmaceutical sections we have a long list of satisfied clients for whom we do ongoing business. So if you have a project in mind then we would like to talk to you, so that we can discuss how our expertise in project control, scheduling and cost control can help you.

The Book Centre, Waterford City.
St. John’s Church, Waterford.
The Book Centre was converted from an old cinema which was originally built in the 1930’s. DFL worked closely with the Archaeologists during the construction as parts of the old city walls were unearthed and necessitated archaeological examination and recording. DFL has also carried out a considerable amount of work in The Book Centre Wexford and The Book Centre Kilkenny.
Our approach to conservation and remedial work of historic and religious buildings such as St. John’s, requires a very clear and unambiguous dialogue between DFL and the guardians of such important places of worship, ensuring that there is minimal disturbance to it’s parishioners.

“If a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing Properly!”
Small Works Division Whilst DFL are more associated with delivering larger projects, over the last number of years we started doing smaller jobs and to this day we always have a number of smaller jobs in progress. We even have a dedicated team who deal specifically with the maintenance work and smaller projects. While we like to call it our ‘Small Works Division’ these projects receive every bit as much care and attention as the larger ones. Research has shown that small projects can often be the most difficult to finish but thankfully this is not the case on a DFL site. Each smaller project has a dedicated team who take charge of the work from inception to completion with the ability to call on the resources from the larger projects as and when required.

Why Choose DFL? Especially when there are so many small builders and handymen out there! ..... Well as the heading says at the top of the page we believe in the time honoured axiom that “if a job’s worth doing, it’s worth doing well”. We’re in business for the last twenty five years successfully delivering quality projects safely and on time. We plan on doing the same for the next twenty five, so you are dealing with a reputable company. We meet with our clients first and ensure that we fully understand their needs before giving them an accurate quotation that we can stand over so this then gives them control over the budget. We undertake to manage the design and planning process where required and we can also look after any archaeological works and reports that may be required.

Schools DFL have been involved in both the refurbishment of existing schools as well as constructing new extensions and sports halls to many of the schools within the region over the past twenty five years. The following is a brief overview of some of these projects. De la Salle College, Waterford. As part of this project we added an additional floor to the existing 1970’s building with a new pitched roof over the extension as well as completely refurbishing and rewiring the existing building. The existing science block was also demolished and a new science building was constructed which included four laboratories and associated preparation areas. All the above work was carried out during the school year whilst one thousand students were in attendance on a daily basis. The main building dating from 1880 was totally rewired and redecorated during the summer holidays and through re-programming the works and coming up with a new sequence we managed to reduce the overall contract duration by twenty weeks.

Scoil Lorcain, Waterford. This project involved a two storey extension to the existing school as well as the construction of a new sports hall and a complete refurbishment of the existing classroom and staff area, toilets and ancillary rooms. The majority of the work was carried out during the academic year so involved careful co-ordination at all times to ensure the safety of both pupils and staff. Saint Peter’s College Wexford DFL were responsible for three separate projects at St. Peter’s College in Wexford over the years, involving the refurbishment of the existing Ibars building and two separate extensions to the existing secondary school which added new science rooms, woodwork rooms, language lab’s and general purpose areas as well as a new computer room and the refurbishment of the existing sports hall and the development of new playing fields and car parks.
