Finding the Right Business Partner David Font

So you're starting a new business. But should you bring on somebody else to help? A business partner can and should be somebody that is strong where you are lacking and help perform a variety of duties instrumental to starting and growing your business.

Find a partner that has knowledge you don't. The perfect business partner will possess a knowledge base outside of your personal comfort level. It can be tough to let go of control of your personal vision, but reconciling that vision with somebody else's can grow your company in ways you might not anticipate.

What other resources do they bring to the table? A business partner can bring in connections, capital, or other resources that can bolster your efforts and provide a foundation with which to build on.

Can you get along? While this may seem basic, debates will inevitably get heated and you and your business partner will have a difference in opinion. Make sure you're able to police each other without causing lasting conflict.

The key to finding a good business partner?

Complementary skill sets and a willingness to execute a shared vision.
