Background As many of you know Griffiths has been appointed by Herefordshire Council to construct the new City Link Road. We would like to welcome you to our first project bulletin. We will be producing these on a regular basis to keep you up to date with the progress of the City Link Road, as well as sharing with you stories from our work with the local community, schools and colleges. If you would like to receive future bulletins by email or in another format, please let our Public Liaison Officer, Neil Evans know via email: neil.evans@alungriffiths.co.uk The City Link Road (CLR) is part of a large scale inner city regeneration project which includes the Old Market, Widemarsh Street, Merton Meadow car park and other key areas within the city. It will provide hundreds of new homes and help provide hundreds of new jobs. In the region of 800 new homes, 35 per cent of which will be affordable, are planned to be built across the site. The new road will open up access to areas for development and regeneration which are currently inaccessible or difficult to access and it will also alleviate some of the volume of heavy traffic from Hereford’s inner ring road. The road is part of a package of measures which will enable Commercial Road, Newmarket and Blue School Streets to be upgraded for easier pedestrian movement and also reduce ‘through traffic’ which will be transferred to the link road. Improvements will also include the provision of a new transport hub at the railway station.

Upcoming Project Manager’s Works Report We will be implementing a temporary one-way system at Widemarsh Street, which will commence on the 10th October 2016. This system will run in a southerly direction from the Newtown roundabout (adjacent to signature Interiors to Blackfriars Street). This is to allow construction of the new road and Widemarsh Street Junction. Also, a traffic management system will be installed on Edgar Street, from the 10th October 2016 in the area adjacent to the Football ground. This traffic management is required to maintain the existing two-way traffic flow with slightly narrower running lanes whilst also giving the added benefit of protecting the workforce during the new highway alignment construction. All traffic routes will remain accessible.
