New house on infill site, Phibsborough, County Dublin The nature and dimensions of the site mean that achieving a quality dwelling and residential amenity that complies with all the relevant standards will require a creative and innovative design approach. In order to achieve this on a site where the width is less than 4 metres mean inverting the traditional house plan by 90 degrees and designing a very deep house plan around and a southwest facing courtyard. The internal courtyard allows south and west facing light to penetrate deep into the plan and flood both the sitting room and kitchen with natural light throughout the day. The courtyard will be the main focus for the sitting room and kitchen at the centre of the house and will be a beautiful space planted with bamboo and grasses. The slatted timber screen and orientation will ensure that direct sunlight can penetrate the house throughout the day without compromising security.
