AN INTRODUCTION TO HIGHLAND’S MERIT AND NEED-BASED TUITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

We’re Here to Help You Map Your Personalized Path Toward Enrollment How Do You Afford a Highland Education?

2. Merit Scholarships

For many families, the obvious first question is “how do we afford a Highland education?”

The second form of tuition assistance is the Highland School Merit Scholarship Process. Merit Scholarships are limited to students entering our Upper School and consists of two distinct programs, our Founders Scholarship and our Piedmont Scholarship programs.

To help, we’ve developed an easy and accessible process. For the 2014/2015 academic year, Highland’s Tuition Assistance Program coordinated support for 46% of Highland students. Whether your family qualifies for a grant through our generous financial aid process or a student receives an award through our merit scholarship program, we want to partner with you to ensure that every qualified candidate has access to the Highland experience.

“The best gift you could ever give your child is a Highland education.” KATHERINE ELLSWORTH, HIGHLAND PARENT

Two Opportunities for Assistance The Highland School Tuition Assistance Program is made up of two main parts, Financial Aid and the Merit Scholarship Program.

1. Financial Aid Financial Aid applications are considered for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. The program is entirely need-based. In other words, your income and ability to contribute toward tuition costs are evaluated and used to develop a need-based grant. Financial Aid grants are awards that are directly applied to the cost of tuition. They are not loans that must be repaid. To learn more, please visit www. sssbynais.org. Highland’s school code is 3874. Financial Aid grants are renewed annually and reevaluated for each academic year. Accordingly, families must apply for financial aid every January and are aware of the amount of their grant prior to re-enrollment for the next fall.

The Founder’s Scholarship

Highland’s Founder’s Scholarship is a highly competitive academic scholarship for rising freshman. Candidates must submit admission applications by January 30 of their 8th grade year. Awards are made each year during the first round of admission. Founder’s Scholarship candidates must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher and earn a total scaled score of 2000 or higher on the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). SSAT testing is administered at Highland in December and January each year.

The Piedmont Scholarship

The Piedmont Scholarship program was developed to attract students with varied talents and areas of interest. Piedmont Scholarships are available to qualified students entering any grade in Highland’s Upper School and are awarded throughout the school year. Application from students who apply for admission before January 30 will be given priority, but please don’t let this discourage you from inquiring about availability.

We’re Here to Help Managing the cost of tuition is a consideration for every family interested in an independent school education. It is our goal to provide you with a confidential, transparent process that allows you to evaluate your ability to manage this investment and sustain your child’s enrollment at Highland School.
