“The Passages Collection takes you on a journey through Sitka’s mini-collections for Fall 2012 From the Roots all the way through to the Crown. What may initially appear to be a separation of entities will piece together in a state of unity once you’ve travelled through the entire line. Sitka apparel has broken through a metaphysical boundar y allowing it’s roots to deepen the grasp on classic cuts and styles, while it’s branches have stretched far overhead to create a crown of illuminated specialty pieces. Enbridge Inc.’s proposal to build the Northern Gateway Pipeline to transport crude oil from the Alberta tar sands to B.C.’s North Coast has stirred up quite a kafuffle, and rightfully so. Upon reaching the coast the crude oil would be loaded onto super tankers, also referred to in the biz as Ver y Large Crude Carriers or VLCCs. These goliath vessels would then weave through a network of waterways out to open ocean, bound for markets abroad in Asia and the US. These super tankers would transit through the heart of the Great Bear Rainforest, an area renowned for it’s abundance and diversity of Wildlife, most notably the Spirit Bear, as well as a unique and thriving First Nations culture. There is too much at stake here. Sitka joins environmental groups, First Nations and the general public in opposing the Enbridge Northern Gateway Pipeline, and hopes together we can fight to keep the Great Bear Rainforest supertanker free. The proceeds from this shirt will go to support the efforts of those working to keep the Great Bear Rainforest oil tanker free.

Jon Swinamer is a lifelong skateboarder and part owner of Pro Skateboards in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Always disappointed by the piles of skate decks that end their ride at the dump, he found a way to increase their life span by making knife handles for friends and relatives.“I’d seen some jeweller y and art pieces made from discarded skate decks, but never anything I could actually use.” Eventually, he teamed up with TripleX Knives where they cut knife blades from old carbon steel sawmill blades, which is a favoured material for expert knife makers. They’re hollow ground, heat treated, satin polished and sharpened to a razor edge. This alliance produces a knife that, aside from the glue, is completely built from reclaimed materials. Sitka, Jon and Chris are happy to have collaborated on the design of this Canadian-made knife. Comes ready for action in a 7-8oz premium leather sheath. Go cut shit. pg88
