The word “jade” can be traced to 1565 as derived from the Spanish term piedra de ijada. Mesoamérica once described the region and cultural area of the Americas that extends from Central Mexico to Central America. Within these regions, jadeite (one of two metamorphic rocks found in jade) was considered a very precious material. The people of Mesoamérica took pride in carving and hand-crafting jade into special objects and ornaments – objects worn as a symbol of stature. Today, a new Jade arises. Its story begins in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica.
