[fall in retrospect] Time flies when your having...architecture?

In continuance of our longstanding tradition of a strong AIAS chapter in Fort Lauderdale, the Board of Directors have gone a long way to provide you with valuable experiences that can help you excel in your education. Even under current economic circumstances, we managed to pull through, which just goes to show our strong dedication to our schools and community. We are proud of our ability to represent your voice at a local, regional, and national level where we were among the two schools from Florida that made it to our premier national event, Forum in Denver, Colorado to represent our chapter. It is also our hope that we continue to strengthen our ties with the students in our Boca Raton Campus and the 1st and 2nd year students at Broward College. During a recent visit by AIAS National Vice-President, Deana Moore, she remarked “As the only standing conglomerate chapter, AIAS Fort Lauderdale is my new precedent for how community colleges and universities can work together to make sure that there is support along many paths to becoming an architect.”

[aias] [studio culture] Documenting optimism, respect, sharing , engagement, and innovation. We were thrilled to have our first meeting to discuss Studio Culture with our National Vice-President, Deana Moore, in January. To start on the road to drafting FAU’s first policies, we were briefed on what these documents consist of. Then towards the end, we discussed what makes our school unique and how we benefit. It is not only an essential part of the school’s accredidation but an opportunity for students to acknowledge, promote, and foster what their school does right. Thereby it focuses in on the key issues that make us unique so we can further enhance our ability to learn, flourish, and grow. To be a part of the process and open up some dialogue amongst the students a committee of students and faculty was formed and everyone is welcomed to attend. For information on meetings please email Prof Sandell at [Sandel1@fau.edu] or check our calendars. You can also find more information on our website www.aiasfortlauderdale.com

[spring quad Conference] [Green Week] Atlanta, Georgia March 5-8, 2009 Southern Polytechnic University and Georgia Tech University [+] College Road Trip!!! As a future architect it is important that you travel and experience the built enviroment outside our own region as much as possible. A journey with your fellow students can prove to be a uniquely fun and unforgettable experience. Not that traveling with non-architects is insipid, but now you have company that appreciates your passions with willingness to document, point out details, and invoke discussions about architecture. And did we mention, have alot of fun?

“When you’re young you have no money and lots of time, when you’re old you have alot of money and no time. “ -Mike Lin

March 10-17th

Did you know our Higher Education Complex Tower in Fort Lauderdale is the first downtown tower to have solar panels installed on the roof? Considering furthering your knowledge on LEED and environmental conscious design? Starting March 10th, take advantage of the first annual "Green Week", full of informative lectures and fun events. "Greening" yourself does not need to end there. FAU and USGBC (United States Green Building Council) are joining forces by forming a much anticipated student group, where multidisciplinary students will come together to tackle sustainability issues on campus and in the community. Please contact Kevin Cruz [kcruz8@fau.edu]to join or for more information. And of course, what better day to conclude Green Week than on St. Patrick's Day...don't forget to wear GREEN!
