MAY 2014 SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS

Field trips offer a perfect opportunity to teach school children about environmental conservation outside of the classroom. To further facilitate pupils understating of nature, a trip-booklet (with a brief history of the greater Tsavo Conservation Area, and a spotter’s guide) is issued to the pupils. Field trip participants are awarded a certificate of participation which certifies that the holder is a ‘Wildlife Guardian’. In the month of May, the DSWT took one hundred pupils for a full day’s field trip to Tsavo East National Park where they had the opportunity to visit the park’s Education Centre, the Aruba Dam, the DSWT’s Voi Elephant stockades and Mudanda Rock. Pupils spotted different species of wildlife including Elephants, Cheetah, Lions, Gazelles, Kudu, Waterbuck, Buffalo and Oryx.

MAY 2014 SCHOOL WILDLIFE FILM SHOWS

A wildlife film show is a very effective means of passing a conservation message to school children. The DSWT’s films encompass general conservation practices, wildlife behaviours and threats to wildlife. In May DSWT hosted four film shows. These shows were attended by school children, teachers and their parents.
