PatrolKms Covered Arrests Bushmeat Snares Lifted Poachers’ Camps
In February the teams lifted 592 snares and made 44 arrests including 2 bushmeat poachers, 32 livestockherders,4loggers,2fishmen,3charcoalburners,and1firewoodcollector. Theteamsalso confiscatedfirewood,loggedpostsandtimber,6charcoalsacksandconfiscatedaconsignmentof50kg offish.
During the month the teams also destroyed 21 livestock bomas, 16 active charcoal kilns and 6 poachers’ camps. 2 elephant carcasses were discovered with tusks weighing a combined 10.6kg of ivory,whichwashandedovertoKWSforsafekeeping.TheteamsalsosupportedtheSWT/KWSVet Unitintreating8injuredelephantsand1lion.
InFebruarytheSoboandUmbiteamswereonannualleavewhilsttheKulaluII,Chyulu,MobileNorth, Dakadima,Yatta,ChyuluMobileandShompoleteamsworkedpartofthemonth.Therestoftheteams wereoperatingfulltime.
