Giraffe Snared Crater Lake Conservancy
This case was reported by Lentolia Conservancy Wildlife Scouts Immobilisation, examination and treatment
The giraffe was immobilized with a 13 mg Etorphine and 80 mg Ketamine Hcl dart. The giraffe had a wire snare on the left front limb that had inflicted minor lacerations. 9,000 mg Oxytetracycline and 1,000 mg Phenylbutazone were administered intramuscularly. Anaesthesia was reversed with 72 mg of Diprenorphine given by IV and IM route. The giraffe has a good prognosis.

Zebra Natural Causes
Kihoto Area
This case was reported by our informer in Kihoto area. The Zebra was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. Physical examination indicated that the zebra’s lameness was due to inflammation and soft tissue injury on the hind left leg. 6,000 mg Oxytetracyclineand 800 mg Phenylbutazone were administred intramuscularly. 4 ml Ivermectin was administered subcuateneously. Anaesthesia was reversed with 24 mg Diprenorphine given by IV and IM route. The zebra has a good prognosis.

Giraffe
Snared Kedong Ranch
This case was reported by Kedong ranch security team. Immobilisation, examination and treatment
The giraffe was darted with 13 mg Etorphine and 80 mg Ketamine Hcl. The giraffe had had a snare around the neck which had inflicted minor lacerations. The snare was removed then 9,000 mg Oxytetracycline and 1,000 mg Phenlybutazone were administered intramuscularly. Anaesthesia was reversed with 200mg of Natrexone given by IV and IM route. The giraffe has a good prognosis.

Waterbuck Snared Kedong Ranch
This case was reported by a resident of Kedong ranch (Valentine area). The waterbuck was darted with 6 mg Etorphine and 3.5 mg Medetomidine. The animal had a snare around the neck that had bruised the neck. The snare was removed then 8,000 mg Phenylbutazone 3,000 mg Oxytetracycline were administered intramuscularly. 6 ml Ivermectin was given by SQ route. The waterbuck has a good prognosis.

Impala Natural Causes
This case was reported by Hon. Warden Gary Hopcraft. Immobilisation, examination and treatment
Loldia Farm
The impala was darted with 2.5 mg Etorphine and 1 mg Medetomidine. The impala had suffered a complete fracture of left hind leg. Prognosis of the case was poor. The impala was therefore put to rest with 2,000 mg Sodium pentobarbitone given intravenously.

Zebra Snared
Mirera – Oasis Area
The Rift Valley Mobile Vet Unit came across this case while on patrol. The zebra was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. The zebra’s right hind limb had been amputated by a snare at the pastern joint. The wound was cleaned with water and thoroughly rinsed with Iodine. A fly repellant was then sprayed on the wound. 12,000 mg Oxytetracycline, 30 ml Catasol and 1,000 mg Phenylbutazone were administered inatramuscularly. 6 ml Ivermectin was also given subcuatenously. Anaesthesia was reversed with 100 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The prognosis for this zebra is guarded.

The zebra was darted with 5mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. It had a snare around the neck with no injury. The snare was revemoved then anaesthesia was reversed with 100 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The Zebra has a good prognosis

Kedong Ranch
The Rift Valley Vet Unit came across a zebra with a winch wire snare on its right front leg while attempting to rescue the zebra under case 7. The zebra was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. The snare was removed then the wound it had inflicted was cleaned with water and rinsed with Iodine. A fly repellant was thereafter sprayed on the wound. 1,000 mg Phenylbutazone, 12,000 mg Oxytetracycline and 30 ml Catasol were administered intramuscularly. 6 ml Ivermectin was also injected subcuataneously. Anesthesia was reversed with 100 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The zebra has a good prognosis.

The zebra was darted with 5mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. It had a snare around the neck with no injury. The snare was removed then anaesthesia was reversed with 75 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The Zebra has a good prognosis.

The zebra was darted with 5mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. It was observed that the the zebra’s right hind leg was injured and swollen. 1,000 mg Phenylbutazone was administred intramuscularly and 6 ml Ivermectin was administred subcutaneously. Anaesthesia was then reversed with 75 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The zebra has a good prognosis.

This case was reported by Honorary Warden J. Ndegwa. The zebra was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. The zebra had been snared and wounded on the right hind leg. The snare was removed then the wound was cleaned with water, rinsed with Iodine and sprayed with an insect repellant. 9,000 mg Oxytetracycline, 20 ml Catasol and 800 mg Phenylbutazone were administered intramuscularly. 4 ml Ivermectin was also injected subcutaneously. Anaesthesia reversal was done with 24 mg Diprenorphine given by IV & IM route. The zebra has a good prognosis.

The buffalo was darted with 9 mg Etorphine and 50 mg Ketamine. The bufallo was snared around the neck and horn by a wire. Fortunately, the snare had not inflicted any injury. The snare was removed then anaesthesia was reversed with 75 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The bufallo has a good prognosis.

Giraffe Snared
Oserengoni Wildlife Sanctuary
This case was reported by Honorary Warden J. Ndegwa. The giraffe was darted with 13 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. The giraffe had a wire snare on the right hind leg that had inflicted minor laceration. The snare was removed then 9,000 mg Oxytetracycline and 1,000 mg Phenylbutazone were administered intramuscularly. Anaesthesia was reversed with 100 mg Diprenorphine given by IV & IM route. Unfortunately, the giraffe failed to stand up after many attempts. It had fallen awkwardly on the tarmac and suffered a fracture of the right hind leg at the pelvis. Given the poor prognosis, it was put to rest

The buffalo was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 60 mg Ketamine. The zebra had a winch wire snare around the neck. Fortunately, the snare had not inflicted any injury. The snare was removed then anaesthesia was reversed with 24 mg Diprenorphine given by IV & IM route. The zebra has a good prognosis.

This case was reported by the KWS Warden Baringo County. The giraffe was darted with 4 mg Etorphine and 80 mg Ketamine. The ostrich had been speared with a stick and wounded on the right wing. The stick had perforated the wing tissues causing a deep wound that had become septic. The wound was cleaned with water, rinsed with Iodine and sprayed with a fly repellent. 4,500 mg Amoxicillin and 6 mg Dexamethasone were injected intramuscularly then anaesthesia was reversed with 150 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route. The ostrich has a good prognosis.

The buffalo was darted with 5 mg Etorphine and 50 mg Ketamine. The zebra had been snared and wounded by a winch wire on the right front leg. The snare was removed then the wound was cleaned with water, rinsed with Iodine and sprayed with a fly repellent. 9,000 mg Oxytetracycline, 800 mg Phenylbutazone and 20 ml Catasol was administered intramuscularly. 5 ml Ivermectin was injected subcutaneously. Anaesthesia was then reversed with 75 mg Naltrexone given by IV & IM route.
Prognosis
The zebra has a good prognosis.
