Replago Floating House São Paulo - Brazil Jun 2021 Academic Project

About RepLago floating house was designed with the intention for people to disconnect from their smartphones and reconnect with individuals they care about and the natural world around them by reducing the technology use in the middle of a lake. The project location is situated in the countryside of São Paulo Brazil, on a lake that is owned by a local summer camp called RepLago. The owners wanted to expand their business by offering a unique place for their guests to have a fantastic experience closely by nature. Guests would also enjoy the camp’s water activities, such

as wakeboarding, canoeing, kayaking, and swimming. The framing is made out of steel, with cement panels and a dock base from reforestation cedarwood. The walls have special insulation, responsible for thermoacoustic comfort. The house would have solar panels, and a modulator stabilizing the electrical current and providing power to 12-volt batteries. A portion of the energy would be vconverted to 110 volts and used to provide power to the house’s lights, sockets, and electrical appliances equipment.

The Floating Foundation

Replago floating house would be built on a 1,500 ft² floating dock platform attached to the access dock.

The ceiling, floor, and some walls are finished with Plywood to provide a clean and relaxed atmosphere. The plywood panels are simple to assemble, reuse, and cheap, creating a sophisticated industrial touch.

1 Bedroom The warmth of woodcontrasts nicely with the coldness of concrete and steel. It was chosen shelves and an open clothing rail as a closet, prioritizing an open space.

2 Bathroom Ceramic tiles on the floor and a marble finish for the shower and sink for the bathroom. Respecting the color palette, the sink cabinet was suggested a light birk wood.

3 Kitchen Even though the kitchen is very compacted, it has everything to prepare a meal if the guests opt to not use the local restaurant located on the premises of the summer camp. Shelves with a firm structure compounded by MDF with formic and aluminum finishing.

4 Living room The living room has a circular fireplace with an aluminum finish. On the side were placed shelves to store game boards and garments. This house can accommodate two to four people because the sofa can become a bed in the living room.

About The cube house is a project designed in a class at DVC to develop skills in the software Revit. For this project was required the full documentation and the construction of a physical model at a 1/2” = 1’-0” scale. The two-story cube house would be located in Pleasent Hill - California, the house has 750 ft² of living space, counting a living room, kitchen, half bathroom, full bathroom, office, one bedroom, and a balcony. The exterior area has a 1500 ft² of concrete tile patio, including an open parking garage and a recreational area on a wood finishing floor. The proposed design involves a cubic-shaped house facing north, constructed on a slab-grade Site Analysis

foundation and wood framing walls. The façade has an L shape window from the first floor to the second floor with vertical wood louvers promoting some privacy and shading to the inside of the house. The exterior wall finishes are wood-stacked panels for the main entrance, concrete panels for the east and south sides, and stucco for the west. This single-family home is ideal for a couple or only a person to live in it, the house offers practicality because most of the rooms with the exception of bathrooms are open spaces, which provide comfort and spaciousness for a considerably small space.

About Knowing that Revit has many powerful, detailed tools to clarify the construction process, the Copacabana Center was designed in parallel to an additional course for Revit to better understand the construction of a large commercial building. The name “Copacabana” was named on behalf of a neighborhood in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil. When visitors go to Copacabana in Rio, they experience the authentic culture of what it is like to be in Brazil, beautiful beaches, a detailed tiled sidewalk representing the ocean waves, excellent restaurants, and fantastic architecture. To bring the essence of this neighborhood to the Copacabana Center, I not only decided to name it after the neighborhood but bring aspects that make a workplace more enjoyable and less stressful. The building is composed of four levels: Site Analysis

The underground level is occupied by the heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, gas piping, and sewer systems, which are also used as additional storage space. The street level has a general reception for the offices, two bathrooms, an elevator, and a stairwell to access the levels above. On the East corner was proposed a commercial space that could be used for different purposes; for this presentation, the space is defined as a restaurant. The first and second-floor level has an Identical layout. Copacabana Center has rooms ranging from 140 ft² to 1050 ft² in a total of 8 separate offices on each level, making it possible to be shared spaces with small businesses or an entire floor for only one corporation. Also, these floors count break rooms and eight bathrooms, which are handicap accessible.

Isometric View On the exterior of Copacabana center, there is a parking lot with eight parking spaces, a stairwell that directs to the office reception and restaurant, and an accessible ramp 4.7º inclined. To reinforce the essence of the Copacabana neighborhood, different types

of palms were suggested for the landscaping, concrete tiles for the sidewalk, and color for the facade that transmits happiness and relaxation. The construction is made of a concrete framing system to support the curtain walls providing more flexibility in the interior layout with wood stud framing walls.

Shed Remodeling

Since arriving in California from Brazil, I always wanted to live in the city, but with the expensive rental cost, I never had a chance to pay for a place for myself. When I visited some friends who had moved into an old house in the city, I realized that there was a shed in the backyard, and I proposed to my friends that I would renovate it to live there, and they would charge me a low price for the rent in exchange. With the support of my boyfriend - today my beloved husband - we renovated the shed ourselves during the weekends for two months.

The shed had just the wood framing structure; its floor had holes and was severely damaged. We went to Lowe’s for supplies, got quick guidance from a salesperson, and started the project hands-on. The process involved building a new floor, insulating the walls and ceiling, installing drywall and electricity, painting, and all the finishes. That was when I realized I wanted to learn more about the field and become an architect.
