MAKING THE RIGHT MOVE

Our 100,000th home was sold to the Bokelman family of Zack, Katie and their three young children, who had decided to relocate from Pensacola, Florida, to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for a new job opportunity for Zack.

Seeking an active lifestyle, the Bokelmans first fell in love with the

stunning community of Viridian, which features many parks, nature trails, lakes and swimming pools.

Their next goal was to find the best floor plan that could grow with their family as their kids – a 3-year-old, 2-year-old and 4-month-old – got older. After checking out each of the builders in Viridian, they were most drawn to The Luca floor plan from David Weekley Homes.

“The layout of The Luca was appealing because it offers a lot of different spaces,” Katie said. “The floor plan provides a lot of flexibility for where our family is now and where we will be in the future.”

BUILDING FROM A DISTANCE

With the floor plan selected, the Bokelmans chose to build from the ground up while living in another state, which meant the family had to expedite picking out their design selections.

DEAR FRIENDS, Wow – 2020 has looked quite a bit different from what we expected when we rang in the new year. Over the last several months, home has become much more than four walls for many of us, transforming into an office, school, daycare, restaurant – whatever we need it to be.

As time at home has increased and interest rates have significantly decreased, many folks have decided the time is right for a new home that better fits their needs. In fact, we’ve seen record-breaking sales numbers, and it’s been our privilege to walk alongside our Homebuyers and maintain our exceptional Customer Satisfaction ratings, even as we adapt to new conditions due to the pandemic.

Our first priority has been and will continue to be the safety of our Team Members and Customers. From our virtual tours and online interactive floor plans to the ability to attend Builder meetings and even visit our Design Center virtually, we’re ensuring our buyers can still bring their dream home to life within a safe environment.

“We came to Dallas/Ft. Worth for two days to make all of our choices for the whole house at the Design Center,” Katie explained. “It worked out really well. Everybody was very helpful and understood our situation with moving from another state.”

The family also couldn’t physically see the progress of their home often and instead had to rely on a steady stream of communication and pictures from the David Weekley Homes Team.

“Throughout the building process, our personal Team ensured we were always in the loop by regularly giving us updates since we couldn’t just stop by the home to see how the build was going,” Katie said. “They always kept us well-informed.”

“We were surprised and very excited to find out we were the 100,000th Homeowner,” Katie said.

“David Weekley Homes was not building where we used to live, so we had no idea the company had sold so many homes!”

While they may be new to David Weekley Homes, the Bokelmans are delighted to now be in the family of Homeowners.

“We’re very happy with the service we’ve received from the whole David Weekley Homes Team and love our new home,” Katie said.

PRODUCTIVE WORKSPACES AT HOME For many people, being in a dedicated office keeps their minds focused on work. However, working from home may make it more challenging to stay productive. With a few simple steps, you can turn your workspace at home into an office and continue crushing your productivity goals.

It’s tempting to get comfy on the couch while working from home, but try to keep separate spaces for work and leisure. Even if you don’t have an extra room, dedicate a work area that doesn’t include your bed or couch. This will help keep you away from distractions and put you in the work mindset.

When you open and close a wellsealed door, there should be a little resistance. If your weather stripping needs maintenance, lubricate the bottom of a screwdriver handle with wax and firmly run it up and down the groove. If you’re still not getting a tight seal, it may be time to replace your weather stripping, as it can wear down over time. Watch this short video for more tips on exterior door maintenance!

He is right there no matter when I call, which is a life saver. He is calm, polite and gets the job done right away. I was not getting hot water, and he had someone here within the hour! This is a rare occurrence in this day and age, and I am so grateful that Sean is always there for me (and other Weekley Homeowners).

Zucchini Parmesan Crisps Ingredients • 2 medium zucchini • 1 tablespoon olive oil • ¼ cup freshly grated Parmesan • ¼ cup plain dry breadcrumbs • ¼ teaspoon salt • Black pepper

1. Preheat the oven to 450° F. Cover a baking sheet with cooking spray.

4. In a small bowl, mix the Parmesan, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper to taste.

2. Cut the zucchini into ¼-inch thick slices.

3. In a medium bowl, toss the slices with the olive oil.

5. Press each slice into the mixture, coating both sides. Put the slices in a single layer on the baking sheet.

6. Bake the zucchini slices until they are browned and crisp (about 25-30 minutes).

HITTING THE BOOKS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE Thanks to our Homeowners, Homebuyers, Real Estate Agents and community partners, we made the grade again for 10,958 students and families through the efforts of our 6th annual companywide School Supplies Drive.

Our Minneapolis Team donated $1,900 in juice boxes, fruit cups and cleaning items to Ronald McDonald House Charities® Upper Midwest, which offers a home-away-from-home for families during a child’s serious illness.

While this year presented new challenges, more than 1,000 Team Members across the country rose to the occasion by enhancing several of our drives to include non-school related items like household necessities and nonperishable foods. Through our partnerships with 15 local organizations, we donated approximately $86,500 in supplies to help those in need.

And in Orlando, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida was the recipient of our virtual food drive, resulting in more than $6,600 in donations, which will provide 26,500 healthy meals.

Our North Carolina divisions of Charlotte and Raleigh teamed up with two nonprofits to collect approximately $12,200 in school supplies, which will benefit around 2,000 children.

“This is my favorite CARE event,” said Janice Sears, Purchasing Coordinator with David Weekley Homes in Raleigh. “Having worked as a kindergarten teacher’s assistant, I know how important it is to provide children with a firm foundation at school.”

“We have counted on David Weekley Homes for many years,” said Greg Higgerson, Chief Development Officer for Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. “We are thrilled by their hard work to make a difference for struggling families during this historic time of need.”
