Stink bugs are an invasive species from China and they have no natural predators in the United States. Because of this it is up to you fight them and get them out of your house and garden! Here are three easy steps to stink bug proof your home and get rid of them! Step One: Seal it up! During the fall stink bugs seek a warm place to stay for the winter, often your house. They are attracted to warmth and light, so if your house has any cracks they will find them! They usually enter through cracks around the window panes, siding, eves, attic vents, crawl spaces, and open windows. Stop them by taking a caulk gun and walking around the outside of your house, sealing up any cracks you can find. Step Two: Spray them! So your house is sealed up, but you still have stink bugs inside your home? Well you have to get rid of those, or you could end up with a breeding colony! The best way to do this is to spray an insecticide called Talstar in areas where you see them in your house. Talstar is odorless, dries clear, pet and child safe, and lasts up to three months. Spray it around areas where you get lots of bugs in your house. It could be a certain wall, or usually around the windows. You can spray Talstar on windows as well, it won't hurt them but it will kill the bugs. It is also a good idea to spray some Talstar on the outside of your house in case you missed sealing up any cracks. Once the bug walks across an area that has been sprayed with Talstar it will eventually die. You could hire a professional to do all this, Talstar is what they would likely use, but it is perfectly safe if follow the directions and it will save you a ton of money. Step Three: Vacuum them up! So now that you have sealed your house up and killed off all the stink bugs inside your home with Talstar it is time to get rid of all the dead ones. This is the easy part, simply take your home vacuum and suck them all up. You can even vacuum live ones up if you have a large amount in one place and just can't wait to get rid of them. Done! Now your home should be totally stink bug free.
