Due to their long life span and rapid breeding habits, silverfish are notoriously difficult to get rid of once they have settled into your home. This way you can turn your attention to the ones already in your home. Step 2: Fill in the Cracks Silverfish love cracks, in the floorboards, or the skirting boards. Any cracks anywhere. They love them because they can hide there and lay their eggs there too. The entrance into your home will often be a crack under a door somewhere. Search them out and fill them in. Believe me this will make it much easier to deal with the infestation later on. Step 3: Make your home inhospitable to them You have a silverfish infestation for a reason, something about your home is very attractive to them. Many people worry about how to get rid of silverfish when in fact the real issue is how to avoid them in the first place. Silverfish love moisture and dampness. And dark, warm places. So make sure there is not excess water on the floor of your bathroom, or in your kitchen under the fridge or under the sink. Check in your laundry room and in your basement, which can often be damp, and in your attic around the boiler. Do your best to clear up the dampness and moisture.
Step 4: Remove the easy food Part of an ideal living space for silverfish is easy access to food. Unfortunately this covers a lot of things. But you need to do your best to make it hard for them to find a good meal in your home. Here are some of their favorite foods: - Cereals - Bread - Glue in book bindings - Mold and mildew Step 5: Find the hot spots Now your home is not a nice place for them, and they can't get easy access to food. The next step is to kill off the existing ones, but first you have to find them. The best way to find the silverfish hot spots is to check all the places mentioned above, and lay out sticky traps, checking them in the morning to see which area have the most victims. Step 6: Lay out silverfish poison The most effective and quickest way to kill silverfish is with a god silverfish poison from your local DIY store. Lay it around the hot spots, just be careful with some silverfish poisons if you have pets as some of them can be harmful to other creatures too if ingested.
