DARIO COLOGNA: MY PERFECT DAY I experience my perfect day in Davos Klosters after every snowy night on my cross-country skiing trails at home. Then, when the trees are covered in snow and the track into the Dischma Valley is freshly groomed. Pure goose bumps and the best prerequisite for my perfect day. Sun in the Dischma Valley In winter, cross-country skiing naturally takes centre stage for me practically every day. This sport is both my job and my biggest passion. Setting off early and going skiing in the fresh

snow of a prepared track is simply heaven! Ideally under a cloudless sky. I really like the track in the Dischma Valley – it’s one of the first places the sun reaches in the morning. It goes pretty high up, but when the snow sparkles in the sunlight, it’s the perfect combination of training and nature adventure. Back home, I take a rest. Since I have a bit of a sweet tooth, I like to go to Kaffee Klatsch Davos or Klosters in the afternoon. It’s really cosy there, and their coffee and cakes are extremely tasty.

DISCHMA UPHILL The “classic” among the classic trails Very popular among classic runners: the Dischma Valley Uphill. The cross-country skiing experience along the quiet Dischma stream, into the picturesque Dischma Valley, where challenging ascents, rapid descents and a fairy-tale landscape meet each other. If you don’t want to do the descent, you can enjoy a coffee at the Restaurant Teufi, wait for the bus and take it back to Davos. Also, during this trip, the splendour of the snow-covered valley can be admired.

GARFIUNER ROLLER COASTER The local tip You want to escape the daily grind? Then off to the Garfiuner Roller Coaster! Because what helps better than a cross-country skiing round through snow-covered forests, along the idyllic Landquart (brook), up to the Pardenner bridge, where a wonderful view into the valley opens up. A dream. Back the trail leads on the other side of the valley, with a view of Gotschna. Again, beautiful passages await you through the Klosters forests, until you arrive in Klosters with a big grin on your face.

Pass climbing with cross country skis Who can claim to have climbed a pass with cross-country skis? In Davos Klosters this is possible: namely on the Wolfgang pass. The way there includes some smaller climbs, idyllic forest sections and tricky descents. Important: Be sure to take a break for a drink at the end of the first forest section – you can’t miss the view of Lake Davos. Arrived on the Wolfgang pass follows a round trip through the open, snow-covered winter landscape with a view in the direction of Klosters.

HERZLOIPE DAVOS Davos cozy loop Especially popular with beginners or leisurely cross-country skiers is the “Herzloipe” in Davos. The short loop is perfect for starting cross-country skiing, especially due to its location, directly in the village, and the few meters in altitude. Did you know that this trail is one of the official Swiss Heart trails? Means that even people with heart disease can feel safe on this trail. Because the loop is not only short & flat, but also equipped with two defibrillators. By the way: there is also a Herzloipe in Klosters.

Das macht die Loipe für Profis, aber auch gute Hobbylangläufer, spannend. Dank Snowfarming können wir bereits ab Ende Oktober mit dem Training auf der Loipe loslegen. The trail is right outside my front door and offers a lot of variety: There are several short but steep climbs and in between always short flat areas. This makes the cross-country ski run exciting for professionals as well as for ambitious hobby cross-country skaters. Thanks to Snowfarming we already train on this track as of end of October.

They offer a scenic variety like hardly any other cross-country ski trail. Over bridges, along the river and through beautiful snowy glittering forests, the climb up to the alps of Klosters is definitely worth it. On the way back, caution is advised on the descent at Schindelboden.

Here the world’s best cross-country skiers will compete in a night sprint (skating) on 3 January and in a 20-kilometre pursuit race (classic) on 4 January. SERTIG CLASSIC 18 FEBRUARY 2024 The classic cross-country skiing race from Davos to Sertig Sand takes place every year in mid-February. In addition to the “Drizehner” (13 km) with an altitude difference of almost 400 metres, participants can also choose the half-marathon distance. SNOW FARMING We have been covering a mound of snow with sawdust every spring since 2008. This ensures that 70-80% of the snow remains intact throughout the summer. This snow is then used in autumn to prepare a 4 km cross-country ski track to guarantee an early season start at the end of October, irrespective of autumn temperatures and weather. Snow farming times From the end of October until the trails are prepared with natural snow (approx. beginning of December), snowfarming is practiced in the Flüela Valley. During this time a day ticket costs CHF 10.00 for adults and CHF 5.00 for children (U16). The tickets are available directly on site or online at: davos.ch/snowfarming

CROSS-COUNTRY SKI CENTRES DAVOS KLOSTERS The first floor is reserved for the Swiss Ski National Ski Association, the Cross-Country Ski School and the local ski club. The outside space is sub-divided into a covered seating area and an uncovered entrance area. The parking spaces for the cross-country skiing center are available in the garage of an adjacent private building private building.

The Arena Klosters also serves as a cross-country skiing center. In addition to delicious meals in the restaurant, cross-country skiers have free access to toilets, checkrooms and a waxing room. Those who want to warm up in cold winter temperatures or prepare for a cross-country skiing round are very welcome in the Arena Klosters.
